The Drow were getting closer. According to Maxwell, there were around fifty of them, and Horin heard the sound of arrows being nocked onto a bowstring.
*pffsss*
Arrows cut through the air around them, ricocheting off the sid of the cliff, which they were under. Horin stuck his head out to see if he could spot them.
"There's one of them, kill him!!!" Said a voice, and again, arrows bounced off the cliff very close to them.
*pffsss*
An arrow embedded itself in Maxwell's shoulder, knocking him backward. "Well that's lovely." he said as he gritted his teeth, and broke the arrow off at the skin. The Drow were getting very close now, small stones came tumbling down the path past them. "Get ready to jump out, and wait for my signal." The Drow were close enough now that the small band could smell the sweat upon their bodies. "NOW!!!" Horin shouted, and jumped out, great hammer in his hand, knocking three dead in one fell swipe. And arrow hit him in the gut, and another in his shoulder.

At that moment, Horin woke up, and realized that it had all been a dream. "Where did they all go?" He wondered, noticing that the only one left was the quaking form of Eruantian.

"The cake looks lovely," Acedia said, "but I regret to say that I really can't have it." She frowned. "I have an allergy to chocolate in any form - a few bites of that delicious-looking cake could kill me within minutes." Remember waaaay back in the tavern like, a zillion* pages ago, when she mentioned there was one of her medallions embedded into her body? It was a wolf medallion. Chocolate is bad for canines, and because the talisman that she is bound to is canine, chocolate is by association bad for her. Rather than explain the complicated binding and how the situation arose in the first place, she just calls it an allergy.

"I'll have a piece," Taryn said. "It does look delicious." Perk number 19498 of not having to eat to survive: Calories, carbohydrates, and all those other things that are bad for you mean absolutely nothing.

{ * "zillion" here referring to the number 19. I just checked. XD }

"One second, I can get one myself."said Tem. He came back munching on something."Humanoid brains are always so noodly, and sometimes they grow appendages with the characteristics thereof." The air faintly smelled of rabbit.

immediately changing the subject away from the eating of brains, Captain Sealem said: "Um, so... Do you make all your Cakes yourself, Mam'm?"

Emily nodded: "Yes, whenever I can get fresh butter and eggs. It keeps me busy." Just then, a whistling sound could be heard rising from the kitchen." Oh, that's the kettle. Excuse me." and she rushed off make tea.

Captain Sealem said "Well, the cake looks lovely. Who else wants a slice? Master Prosper?"

Marcus slashed off a good bit of the icing with his claw and licked it all up. He didn't see anything wrong with it.

"Sorry, I can't eat anything baked."

Prosper looked up at Selam. "Hmm? Oh, yes, the cake looks delicious," he said. "I'll take a peice. I'm sorry I was thinking about Eruantian."

Captain Sealem cut slices of cake for everyone who wanted some. Maxwell and Farnham took a peice, as did Serhan.

Meanwhile, their host carefully unpacked his Crystal Call and began carefully fingering it. He went into a sort of trance-like state for a bit, and then swirling images began to form inside it.

"Ah, good. Jaroun is responding. This will take a few minutes to build the connection through the ethereal. Have to match our mental eminations to each other to get a good connection, you see. Tricky stiff, these crystal balls. I have to concentrate..."

A clattering noise could be heard from outside the doorway, which turned out to be Emily pushing a tea trolley. The cart held a teapot, teacups and saucers, and a jar of honey and a sugar bowl and little sliver spoons. There were also little crackers and leaves of spearmint on it. The teapot was silver, but the cups and saucers were fine china. "Righty-o, who's up for some tea?" smiled Emily as she poured a cup.

"I'll have some tea," Marcus said, "As long as it's not Gnomish!"

Emily handed Marcus the teacup and it's matching saucer, saying: "Ah, no, not Gnomish. It's a local blend of dried berries, herbs, and flowers, but the recipe is originally from northern Sundeneselar. Do you take sugar or honey in your tea?"

The tea smelled delightfully fragrant, and was a light purple in color.

"Oh, I don't take anything." Marcus then demonstrating drinking tea the Lizzardman way--straight up, in one big swig, with a loud gulp.

He wiped his scaly muzzle and asked for another cup.

Emily poured Marcus a refill and then poured Micheal a cup one teaspoon of sugar. "There you are. Now, how about you ladies?" Emily said, looking at Acedia and Taryn.

The Lizzardboy gulped down another cup of the tea faster than you can say "reptile".

"Hm? Oh, yes, please," said Acedia. "Sorry, the pictures on the walls are just so pretty. Taryn?" Acedia poked her friend, who was still distracted.

"Huhwhat?"

"Tea?"

"What about it? Oh! Yes, I'd like some tea, please."

Emily smiled and said: "Here you are dear."

Sehran looked up from his crystal ball and said: "Alright, we have a stable link. Now I just have to..."

Just then Sehran gasped and clutched his chest in obvious pain. The crystal ball fell to the floor and rolled under the couch. Serhan managed to gasp out "Emily! My medicine... quickly."
Before the words were even out of his mouth, Emily dropped the teapot with a clatter and ran out of the room. Seconds later Emily came rushing back in with a glass vial of dark brown liquid. She popped the lid off, put the vial to Serhan's mouth and slowly poured it.

Sehran was unconscious, and blue lines formed on the old elf's face, but his breathing became more relaxed and his level of pain subsided. He was alive but he didn't look well at all.

Emily said "Great maker preserve us. It's his heart. The doctor warned us this could happen. I need someone run to the herbalist's shop and tell him what's happened. He'll know what to do."

Grim faced, Maxwell said: "Acedia, use your bird form to find Horin Hammerhand. You can fly faster then any of us could run, and we need him here as soon as possible. No time to waste! Go quickly! Marcus, remember where the herbalit's shop is? Run there tell him Serhan's had a heart attack. Tell him to come quick."

"Hmm..."said Tem,"This seems strange. I sensed 3 presenses on the ether. Madam, does this happen often when he uses the crystal ball?" Tem scarfed down the last of the rabbit brain and telepathically contacted Horin that Acedia is coming, so don't shoot any birds.

"Why would I shoot a bird?" Horin thought, wondering where the voice in his head came from. "Guess I better watch the skies."

"Yes sir!" Marcus ran out towards the Herbalist's shop.

But then he found a gold coin in the street. "Oooo! Gold! Shiny!" The Lizzardboy picked up the coin and sat right down admiring its shininess.

Maxwell saw Marcus through the open door, sitting in the street. Maxwell, exasperated, sighed and said: "Oh for pete's sake, he's sitting in the street totaly distracted by a shiney thing. Again. Drek, if you please, hurry and get the Herbalist. We'll wait here."

Suddenly, for no apparent in-game reason, Micheal the Mage underwent a subtle change in personality that would only last 3 weeks or less.
<;)>
Micheal said: "Get some blankets, Emily. Maxwell, let's lay him down on the couch. We can at least keep him comfortable until the healers get here."

Maxwell nodded and said: "Good idea. Alright, I'll take the top end, Farnham, you take other end. On three. Ready? One.. two.. three.." The two lifted the surprisingly light Sehran over to one of the couches, which the other members of the group quickly vacated. Tucking a pillow under his head and folding his arms across his chest, the two tried to make the ailing Elf as comfortable as possible.

Emily came back into the room with a sheet and some blankets. "Thank you, Gentlemen" she said.

Micheal said: "With all the magic power at my disposal, I'm still helpless here Maxwell. The thanks goodness there's a Herbalist and a Healer nearby.

Meanwhile, Drek and Marcus had reaced the Herbalist's shop. Bursting in, Drek shouted out "Come quick! Serhan the Talismonger's had a heart attack. Emily sent us to fetch you."

The Herbalist (litteraly) dropped what he was doing (which involved a great deal of white powder landing on the countertop with a 'puff' of white dust) and said: "Wait here." He ran into the back room. Minutes later he came back with a large ceramic jar with a big cork in the top. "Alright, take me to him. I hope we're not too late."

Suddenly, Tem felt another presence in his mind. He didn't--never on his life--panic, but calmly poked the presence in his mind. It was elven, subterranean, psionic, psychotic... a DROW!! And it was the same one that attacked his mind only a few days ago! This time, he'd finish it! Tem quickly bashed himself, handed Maxwell the good basher, and went unconcious, into his own mind. The intruder, he sensed, was in his memories. He closed his eyes and moved there in the blink of an eye.<psions are people capable of godliness in their own minds. This just so happens to also be where n00bs study. IT allows them access to their full potential and beyond> He was in a colossal filing room, with folders strewn everywhere. He found the Drow and grabbed him. "you!" Tem said, "what are you doing here?" He made the Drow more weasely and himself more threatening.

*time rewind a little bit*

Acedia nodded and quickly left the house, drawing the appropriate talisman and fluidly putting it over her head and around her neck. She had half-shifted before even crossing the threshold of the house, and was quickly in the air shortly thereafter.

"Wish I could do something more helpful," Taryn muttered to no one in particular. All of her current /useful/ abilities only had an effect on nonliving things, and it's not like she carried anything that would be useful right now on her - she'd worked much of her life as a freelance assassin.

<Er Emily is Serhan's son's wife. She's his daughter-in-law. Like so: At age 125, Sehran married a human woman (who eventually died of old age), and they had one son (a half-elf). That son later married a half-elf (Emily) and they had two sons and a daughter (Sehran's grandson and granddaughter). You met one of his grandsons earlier, the apprentice who was behind the counter of the talismnger shop.)

The Herbalist followed Marcus and Drek back to Emily's house. When he got there, he went in a examined Sehran. He said: "You gave him the emergency vial already, yes? Good. Probably saved his life, but he's not out of the woods yet. I'll have to give him regular doses of Trelian Oil until his heart recovers enough to function well unaided. I've got enough here for twelve doses, and I can make about forty more back at the shop. Now, Emily, he needs one dose every four hours. I have a four-hour sand clock back at the shop you can borrow. Get a funnel from your kitchen and use this measuring flask to measure the dosage out. You fill it to this line, you see? Here, let me mark it for you." The herbalist pulled out a greese pen and marked a arrow on the side of the flask, pointing at one of the measuring lines. "With luck, he will recover his strength enough in a few hours that he won't need much more of the oil. I have some more remedies he'll need at later stages, so I better get back to the lab and get busy. I'll have one of my delivery boys send that sand clock over. Let me know if his condition changes.

<OOC> So Eruantian spent his entire time of residence in Targos somewhat depressed by the fact that he was the only half-elf in town yet was totally oblivious to the presence of an entire family of half-elves that were practicly neighbors to him? My character's backstory is showing signs of serious conflict with recent developments in this plotline. Since we can't erase the half-elf family from the story, can anyone think of a good excuse for Eruantian's ignorance? </OOC>

<GM's NOTE: Yeah, I can.
First off, let's say the townsfolk all considered Sehran's clan to be Elves, merely because they all have pointed ears. Pointed ears means elves as far as they knew, you see. They just assumed that Sehran himself was a little taller and thiner because he was so old. Eruntian never met the Talismongers before now because of two reasons:
1) He never had need (or rather, never KNEW he had need) of a Talismonger, and so never visited the Talismonger's shop.
2) Whenever he did happen to see one of Sehran's decedents, he would ask what that person's race was, and the townsfolk would say "Elven" because that's what they thought they were.
Because Eruntian was himself unsure of his own racial makeup, he accepted that perhaps these people were actually Elves and not Half-elves becasue he had nothing else to compare all this to. Since Sehran is the only full-blooded Elf who resides full-time in Targos, until Eruntian met Prince Drek and Captain Sealem then Eruntian had never seen an Elf that wasn't as old as Sehran is. Thus, It was only recently that Eruntian had a clear picture of the differences between Elf and Half-Elf.

There, how's that for a retcon?>
