A few minutes later Michael had reached the tower, "From the looks of it I think the White Dragon's Peak over there." Michael used far-seeing to see what features lie on the mountains.

Maxwell said: "How far from White Dragon's Peak is Squiddy Man Mountain, Tem? Are they close at all?"

<If they're close, then we can visit the one and then visit the other without much trouble.>

As Micheal cast Far Seeing his eyes glowed briefly, and then he could make out, through the mist, a tall white-caped peak with a flat top. Above the tree line, the sides of the mountain curved from about 45 degrees off the horizontal to nearly 90 degrees off the horizontal as one went up. Moreover, the top sixth of the mountain was covered in ice and snow. Clearly, it would be impossible to climb the outside of the mountain all the way to the top. Micheal could see what might be some sort of settlement on the top. All he could really see at the top was a wall of stone that perched on the edge of the top of the mountain, but it was definitely an artificial structure: Walls like that are not naturally occurring. Anything else on the top was too high up and too far away for him to see from this angle. If only he could fly...

"It's only about a 3 day hike between the 2, shorter if we can rent some grues to ride." said Tem.<Are grues okay?>"Of course, when last I went there, it was taken over by the evil Nu'Tek family, and I could get killed there if anyone found out who I was. But, grue-riding could get us there in about 2 days, maybe less."

<Grue:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grue_%28monster%29 pretty much unseen monsters, but the Flayers have learned to mind control them, and psychically see them.>

<Well, that's strangely weird. I dunno, we'll see if A Grue shows up or not. out ruling anything out at this point.>

Maxwell shouted up at Micheal, who was up in the watchtower with Marcus. "What can you see?"

While all that was going on, no one noticed that Horin fell asleep, apparently tired from all that had transpired in that day...

Michael explained on what he saw on the Mountains and afterwards states "I'm not sure how we can get up there, do you have any ideas Maxwell?"

"I dunno about the rest of 'em," Marcus chimed in, "But I could carry Mister Michael here on my shoulders in a day and a half or so."

<Probably close to mid-morning, somewhere between about 9 and 11 AM. None of you have watches (they haven't been invented yet, remember) so your characters just know that it's still the AM but not noon yet. The Town Watch of Targos does keep a sundial (which only works during the day, obviously) and a set of sand clocks (devices that look like an egg timer, only larger) to keep time. The Sundial is out in front of the Town Hall and the sand clocks are kept in the barracks.>

Maxwell motioned Micheal and Marcus to come down from the watchtower. He turned to the Talismonger and said: "You said that the guy we need to see is named Jaroun, and that he's the Grandmaster of your order. That tells me that you likely know how to get to the top of this mountain, since you wouldn't have suggested we go there unless you knew how to get there yourself. Am I right?"

The elderly elf nodded his head and said: "Yes, I have a way to get you all there. If Jaroun agrees to meet with us, I can summon Air Elementals that can fly us there. I need to visit him anyways, as I have to pay my Guild dues and theres a few things I need to take care of with the Guildhall. You might as well all come along, no sense me going alone."

"Air elementals." Taryn said this under her breath, with a hardly-perceptible eyeroll. "Suppose we'll just go find Image, too." She wasn't serious; Image was a man that she'd once been acquainted with, long ago, who had been lost to the forces of nature. Her reason for being so sarcastic was the fact that she hadn't yet met a mage who used wind spells that she liked, which resulted in a general disliking of the element of Air and those who used it.

"Er, if it helps at all, Taryn and I can fly ourselves there," Acedia piped up.

<OOC> I'm going to have a dream, so someone wake me up in a bit</OOC>
While all else was transpiring, Horin was dead to the world, in a dream like none he had ever had before. He was going up a mountain, with the ones on the quest to kill the Dire Wolf. As he was walking up, he noticed that he only say people and the road itself, and it was certainly too steep to be anything but.

"We're almost there, be on your guard."

Horin whirled around, confused, and saw that it had come from Maxwell.

"Where are we going?" He asked.

"Don't make fun, this was your quest, remember? Destroying the Goblins?"
Horin did not know what to think. He did not remember anything.

*Hisssss* An arrow ripped through the air, lodging in his leg, and knocking him to the ground. "Take cover!" He yelled, trying to stand again. "This is no goblin arrow." As he looked at the shaft and the fletching. There were voices on the path ahead, rasping, cruel voices. "I hit one of them, looked as though there were seven or eight." Said a voice, deeper than Horin had heard before. "We do not want him to find out that our defenses were penetrated, go back and get some more archers, and a few axemen."...

My son's wife makes the most delicious Samanberry Tea and she just backed a Chocolate Cake this morning. How does that sound?"

Prosper poked his head out of the tent flap. "I'll stay here untill Eruantian wakes up." he said.

"Talismans? Oh, the medallions. I am a good friend of the Burcet family of metalsmiths. They've been giving me such trinkets for my birthday for several years. Surely you are familiar with their work? I seem to recall seeing a Burcet piece in your shop, though I am not certain." Acedia unconsciously reached a hand into her pocket and fingered a random medallion.

"Tea and cake sounds nice," Taryn said. Food got her attention, even if she only ate for pleasure, rather than sustenance.

<He IS Up. It's Horin Hammerhand that's naping.>

Serhan got back on his Walking Stick, which then proceeded to walk for him. "The Burcets? Yes, they're quite well known to me. Did you know that old Seth Burcet was the first Human talismonger to be admitted to my Guildhall? You know, at the time if caused a real division in the guild. Some felt that Humans were not ready to learn the higher forms, but Seth persisted and eventualy won the support of many influential Elves and Dwarves, both within and without the guild. In the end, the Grandmaster at the time sponsored his admittance, and ever since then all Humans have been able to join the Guild. Yes, he paved the way for a lot of good commerce between Elvenkind and Humanity. Of course, he's passed on now, but his legacy lives on in his children and their decedents. The two you know as the Burcet Twins are just a few of the great-grandchildren of Seth Burcet."

"I've heard Seth's story before, from...er, one relative or another. I don't recall exactly who. I do agree that the Burcets are an immense family, though, with an equally immense sense of filial piety, especially in regards to Seth," Acedia said.

Taryn listened to the summary/story intently. "How come you never told me you had friends with such connections?" she demanded of her friend.

"You never asked." Acedia shrugged.

The Talismonger led the group to a house next door to his shop. The house was two-story structure with plaster over the exterior walls.
Image
<Just pretend there's shutters instead of glass in that upper window, and that's about what it looks like>
Inside, the place was very well kept and very 'lived in.'
"Emily!" called out the old Elf. "I'm home early for luncheon. I've brought guests."
An old woman, a half-elf with greying red hair and wrinkled & freckled skin, came around the corner. She said "Serhan, what are you doing home so soon?"
"Emily, I'd like you to meet some very special clients of mind. These are the Heroes who saved Targos from the Drow. Madame Acedia, Madame Taryn, Mister Maxwell, Mister Farnham, young Master Prosper and his bodyguard Captain Sealem, the Fighter Macrus, the Mage Micheal, Mister Tem, and Prince Drek of Suldeneselar. Everyone, this is my daughter-in-law Emily."
Emily bowed her head and curtsied, saying: "It's an honor to meet you all."
"Put the kettle on, dear, and fetch my #14 Crystal Ball please. We'll be in the drawing room."
Emily said "You'll be wanting the Samanberry tea again, Serhan?"
He replied: "Of course. What else?" She nodded and moved towards the kitchen.

Now using his "Walking stick" as just an ordinary stick to lean on, the wizened old Elf made his shakey way to the drawing room. Farnham imediately offered him a hand to steady himself, but he politely refuesed "That's all right, young man. My doctor says I need to walk more and that walking is good for me, and he's probably right."

Eventually, they found themselves in the Drawing Room, a windowless room lit by candles and lamps and a large magically glowing globe embedded in the ceiling. The walls were lined with pictures and decorative wall-hangings in the ancient Elven style, with a small bookshelf and a fireplace in opposite corners and two sofas and two large reclining chairs. Just the sort of place that a well-to-do merchant might entertain guests. "Just sit anywhere" he said. "I'm not fussy about chairs."

Tem made himself a chair, and a semi-luxuriant one for the Talismonger."Care to sit? It won't disappear for hours."

"Ah, thank you Tem. That looks rather nice. You know, I've encountered your kind before. When I was very young, may father took me to Squiddy Man Mountain. I still remember, I saw a Flayer man manipulate smoke with his mind to form flowers and to make it seem to rain crystals. Tell me, do the High Flayers still practice the Smoke Art?"

Tem knew of what the Elf spoke. For thousands of years, the highest form of art in both High Flayer culture has been the Smoke Art: The making of art forms from various kinds of smoke. Manipulating smoke with one's mind is something in-between sculpture and music. While every High Flayer can do it, few are any good at it. Those who can artfully manipulate smoke well enough to make a living at it can attain a very high social standing in Flayer cultures. Tem only knew the kinds of Smoke Art that one does as a child: making simple geometric patters in the smoke and then blowing it away to make a new patter. Nothing like the Smoke Art he the Talismonger was referring to. Those who can do the real art are very gifted, talented like few are.

<I meant when Eruantian recovered his senses, but whatever.>
Prosper had decided that Eruantian was fine, and after telling him to get some rest, he left to the talasmongers house. Prosper sat himself on one of the sofas, and waited for something to happen.

"Sadly, Sehran, I believe Squiddly Man mountain has fallen to the Nu'Tek family. Smoke art may be lost by now." said Tem. He sighed deeply.

Marcus made himself comfortable on the floor; his race wasn't used to using furniture. He did enjoy the drawings on the wall, though.

The women seated themselves on a couch unceremoniously, both taking a bit of time to admire the pictures on the walls, though neither of them made any comment.

Michael sat himself on the sofa with Prosper, Michael was amazed by the decorations present in the room.

Captain Sealem sat next to Prosper, and Maxwell took a reclining chair while Farnham sat next to Acedia.

Just then Emily came in with a large round silver serving tray. Upon the tray was a chocolate cake and a pile of ceramic pie plates. "Tea will be ready in a few minutes. Meanwhile, won't you all have some cake? I made it this morning." She set the tray down on the table in the center of the room.
<Did I mention that there's a table in the center of the room? Well, there is. It's about sixteen inches tall with a round table-top, made of mahogony with brass fittings.>
"Who wants some cake then?"

"I don't think they'd be serving that Tem" Quirked Michael, "And yes please miss, I would love some cake."
