Maxwell spoke up: "Well, perhaps one of the townsfolk knows of a Talismonger we could consult. Talismongers specialize in magic items, you know. I'll bet a Talismonger could give us some idea what's up with Eruntian's ring. Sam the bartender seems to know about this area, let's go ask him if he knows of any Talismongers."
Marcus spoke up. "Is there anything I can do, sir? Maybe the Captain could give me something to do."

Maxwell said: "Sure, Marcus. Come with me, we're gonna go see Sam."

And so Maxwell and Marcus (And anyone else who taged along) went to the inn to ask the bartender if there were any Talismongers around.

Sam replied: "Eh? Oh ye mean the Talismonger. Sure, we've got a Talismonger in town. It's right next to the Herbalist's shop. Ye can't miss it, it's the only mud-brick building in town. Tell Sehran I send you. Oh, and now that the Orcs are gone, I can get all my fresh supplies in again. We're expecting fresh milk and meat and eggs by the morning. Yes sir, we're all mighty gratefull for your victory out there today. Don't know what we'd have done without you folks. Them fancy nobleman's solidiers didn't help much, did they? We all know who the real heroes of Targos are. No charge for your rooms tonight. Least I can do, really.."

Maxwell didn't have the heart to tall sam that the orcs had fled because of a powerful Elven wizard and not becasue of the bravery of his heroes, so he let Sam have his happy moment of Hero-worship and just nodded politely.

Soon, Maxwell (and much of the party) were standing in front of a unasuming little mud-brick house that was right next to the much more impressive Herbalist's shop. A flimsy wooden sign above the door was the only thing that identified the structure as a shop. The sign was displaying a carved wooden image of a magic ring, and the text below it (in Common) read:

Quote:
>>>>>>> Sehran & Sons <<<<<<<<<
===============================
· Talismongers and Enchanters ·
===============================
>>>>>>>> Since 798 CE <<<<<<<<<

Farnham said: "This must be the place. Wonder why he chose mud-brick construction when wood is so plentifully around here? I mean, it looks sturdy enough, but it just seems a little odd, you know?"

<GM's Note: The current in-game year, by common reckoning, is 1067 of the Common Era (or 1069 CE). Unless the sign is lying about it's age, then this shop has been here for 271 years. Who wants to go inside first?>

Acedia and Taryn had decided to go into town with Maxwell and Marcus and all o' thems.

"He's got a point," said Acedia, and started after Horin. She was rather curious, actually, to find out exactly what a talismonger did. She'd heard the term thrown around occasionally over the course of her life but never really knew what it was referring to. Acedia isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer sometimes.

Taryn turned her attention to the remainder of the group. "...So, what, are you going to just stand guard here or something?" Nevermind the fact that she wasn't going in at the moment either.

{ as soon as I find the paper and get it scanned, I must show y'all these Power Puff Girl-style sketches of Acedia and Tar I made in English class the other day. o_O Then maybe I'll try to draw them properly. }

Prosper winced as he tried to streach his arm out. It was so stiff! And responded very slowly, acting half dead most of the time. But he had moved it enough to straighten it all the way out. He got up, but dizzyness forced him down again. he tried again, slowly this time, and succeded. He walked over to Eruanian, holding his left arm. "What's going on inside of you?," The boy asked. "What are you becoming?"

Maxwell and Farnham followed the rest of the party inside.
The shop contained a number of shelves that held various rings, necklaces, trinkets, and other assorted objects. In the middle of the room, on a display stand, was a fine suit of silver-trimmed full-plate armour, complete with father-plumed helm and square tower shield. The face of the shield contained no heraldry, but a piece of paper taped to it read: "Property of Lord Dunmoor! Please do not touch."
Once inside, they could see that the shop contained a counter with a Half-Elf man behind it, and a door to a back room behind him. The Half-Elf was sitting on a stool with a set of arcane tools and a suit of silver chainmail laid out on the counter in front of him. He was apparently in the process of enchanting the silver before the party had come in.
When Tem spoke to him he said didn't look up, but he did reply: "You'll excuse me, but I'm in the middle of something rather delicate here, so you'll forgive me if I don't look up. We do sell many different enchanted objects that might be of help. What does your friend need?" As he spoke, he continued to manipulate the tools, tracing faintly glowing patterns over the suit of chainmail.

<OOC> I was working with the idea that Eruantian had never seen an Elf or a Half-Elf in Targos or possibly anywhere at all before. If he had known that he wasn't alone, he might not have felt so bad about having a mixed heritage. At any rate, I think you must know that Eruantian has never told anyone of his ring in all his time of living in Targos until recently. I don't want to give away too much out of game or in narration, but I will say that the Half-Elf talismonger had nothing to do with the ring in any way, at least as far as Eruantian or I would know.</OOC>

As Horin and Prosper were talking about food and such, Eruantian's ring began to act in a strange manner. The runes on the outside and inside of the band began to light up and fade out in sequence from one side of the sapphire around to the other side. Eruantian's condition changed once again, suddenly rather than subtly. His eyes opened and his breath and heart quickened in pace. The odd thing if you examined him more carefully was that he wasn't excerting himself physically in whatever was going on in his head, but rather seemed to be in some sort of fast animation. The emotional expressions and bodily reactions he had been showing of what seemed to be his experience in the trance began to surface much more intensely and changed from one to the other very rapidly, ranging from smugness to aggression.

<OOC> If I wasn't about 550 miles away from my computer, I would have made an animated gif of the ring's strobe light effect. Oh well. Maybe some time next month. </OOC>

The Half-elf nodded and said: "Well, I suppose so. The copper necklaces are cheap, try one of those on and see how it fits."

Maxwell interrupted, saying: "We have a friend who has a magic ring that seems to be malfunctioning on him. Ever since his ring was exposed to tyhe stare of the Dire Wolf he won't wake up and the ring is acting weird. Can you help us wake him up?"

The half elf looked surprised: "Oh, you people must be those hero-types I've been hearing so much about. Pleased to meet you, I'm Sharus. I'm only a Apprentice Talismonger, but my Grandfather Sehran is a Master Enchanter. He could help you more than I could. Hold, on, I'll see if he's available." Sharus got up and opened the door to the back room. "Grandfather, could you come to the front? These people need your expertise with a misbehaving Magic Ring. Uh huh... OK, yes I'll tell them." He shut the door.
"He's busy with a client right now, fitting out a custom order. Shouldn't be very long. He'll be with you as soon as he can. Why don't you have a seat while you wait?" Sharus motioned and indicated a bench against one wall.

"I do not know." Horin said with concern on his face. "I've never seen any magic rings do this before." And added "We can't do anything, whatever it is, it's caused by that ring."

Oh, and I found the PPG-style sketches. o-o }

Acedia was hanging around in some corner of the talismonger's shop, examining some medallions not unlike her own. The main difference was the fact that her charms were strung on simple black cloth cords, while the shop's charms featured a greater variety. There were a few with this same simple cloth; however, there were several more strung on chains of golden and silver-colored metal (the metal was not necessarily gold and silver, she knew that much). The chains ranged in fineness from rings about half an inch in diameter to links that were fine enough to be threaded on a single eyelash.

Then suddenly the wall busts through. Standing there is a anthromorphic cat. He is wearing a black cloak and carrying a big ole stick.
"Fear me and my big ole stick!" and he starts hitting random, not so innocent bystanders. "I want my money back on this necklace that my wife hates!" When there is no answer he continues to hit people. Then a kind old man walks up to him and asks of his name. "My name is Stick Cat, king of the northern feline tribe." The kind old man punches him, he is knocked out.
