I don't think this is on topic. Now, how does anyone here know who Cthulhu is? Books, surfing the internet, one of the people in his cult?

Cthulhu is basically a titanic demon with an octopus growing out of his face. If I remember the story from "The Call of Cthulhu," he was some sort of god of the sea, representing the ocean's more violent and deadly nature. He is supposed to be one of the ancient gods of darkness, but has been sleeping for a few thousand years, but was awakened for some unknown reason. It is also possible that Lovecraft's friend, Robert E. Howard (creator of Conan), might have referenced Cthulhu in a story about Conan travelling across the oceans and discovering an entire cult of people who worshipped some sort of squid demon (It's been nearly 20 years since I read Howard's works).

Cthulhu now works for an internet service provider in the comic strip, Userfriendly. According to Illiad, he feeds off the darkness from Usenet.

To us, Cthulhu is evil, but intruth he is lesser of a number of evils. The other gods apparently plan to eat the entirety of the Universe, but Cthulhu is against them, he plans to save humanity by pretty much destroying it's dominion. Hard to grasp, I'm not even sure if it's right.

Ahem. Thank you.

Anyway, I was just wondering for all the Cthuluists, do you guys still believe in God, or just the Big C?

I believe in God, but subject to the idea that such creatures like Cthulhu may exist. Just an idea.

Agh! i cant take it anymore!
Cthulhu bread with Idh-yah on or near the planet Xoth, creating his four Demi Beings, Ghatanothoa, Ythogtha, Zoth-Ommog, and Cthylla. His Children. the children paired off and created the star spawn of cthulhu, teh beings who dwell on earth keeping his image alive.
Thou doth belives in cthulhu or thou doth belives in Hastur.

If I say that my somewhat extravagant imagination yielded simultaneous pictures of an octopus, a dragon, and a human caricature, I shall not be unfaithful to the spirit of the thing. A pulpy, tentacled head surmounted a grotesque and scaly body with rudimentary wings... It represented a monster of vaguely anthropoid outline, but with an octopus-like head whose face was a mass of feelers, a scaly, rubbery-looking body, prodigious claws on hind and fore feet, and long, narrow wings behind. This thing, which seemed instinct with a fearsome and unnatural malignancy, was of a somewhat bloated corpulence...

I'm not Cthulist. I'm a Messianic Jew who likes a series of fiction novels. That's like saying that anyone who likes the Harry Potter novels is only known as a Potterist (or whatever, make up your own name). Or that a person from another religion that still enjoys skiing is only a skier. One's hobbies are not always definative of their religion.

Actually, Mind Flayers and Illithids are based off of H.P.Lovecraft's mythos, as well as a number of his other monsters. Although published in the early 20th century, his books gained a cult following in the late 60's or early 70's, with another ressurgence in the late '90s. So you can see that they were picked up in the most convenient of times to lend their mythos to gaming companies and the like.

Whenever pitting anyone against Jesus, remember: Jesus could be the greatest tap-dancer in the world if he wanted to. Would you fight thr world's greatest tap-dancer?

Didn't think so.
