Ugh. The really scary thing is that you could easily wipe out the entire US's electronic capability with about 1.5 nukes. If they simply 'sploded one above one side of our country, we'd effectively be launched back into the Dark Ages; the EMP from the nuke would cover over half the nation, destroying all the electronics (that aren't in thick metal coverings) in range. I'd venture to say that it's not long before the terrorists and their governments try to totally wipe out the US.

...I am so totally moving to Canada.

i don't think the primary concern right now would be an iranian nuke on american soil. developing a nuke will take time, and an ICBM would take an incredible amount of time also. so i think the immediate concern is that Iran will attack Israel because they are our ally, or the possibility of a european or russian strike also, i suppose. nuclear ware scares the pants off of me despite everythig i've said in this thread but i don't think that that is justification for any war...yet.

i try hard to be completely anti-war but my head isn't in the clouds. i know that sometimes fighting has to happen but it does not need to happen now when we are spread very thinly in iraq and it has become quite clear that our fast planes and superbombs dont exaclty win us wars anymore. I'm with the human pumpkin, all for diplomacy and not that token crap that happened in the lead-up to the iraq war.

Naw, if Iran develops nukes, the first place they'll hit is Israel. They hate Israel far more than the US. They recently purchased missiles from North Korea that have a pretty extensive range and could definitely hit Israel, or even Europe. The scary thing is that I've heard rumors that the Iranian president wants to provoke a nuclear exchange in order to bring about the return of the 12th Imam, who will bring peace on earth and establish Islam as the global religion. I don't know if it's true or not, but I don't doubt that the Iranian president is a few Cold Ones short of a six pack.

the only thing i have to say about 12er shi'ite muslims is this: think before you mock them for awaiting the return of a savior who will make humanity right. sound familiar? because jews and some christians are waiting for the exact same thing.

found this new development. Check it out here. it's about a letter from iran to the us, and even though this may seem small, i would venture to say that its quite a huge breakthrough and a nice possibility for diplomatic progress. I'm interested to see what develops.

I'm not mocking the Iranian pres for his beliefs, I just think that he's crazy enough to kill thousands of people for them. Despite the historical significance of the letter from the Iranian prez (first one in 27 years), I really don't think it'll change things. Iran has purchased long-range missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads, and they're threatening to pull out of the nuclear non-proliferation treaty. Iran's prez has also made comments about wiping Israel off the map. It doesn't take a tactical or logistical mastermind to connect the dots.

im not saying he suddenly isn't a threat, im simply advocating diplomacy because war clearly did such a fine job in iraq that i wouldn't want to scare the middle east too much by doing such a fine job wiping out terrorism in Iran as well.

yeah he's still surely a threat. Hopefully he will see with time that only bad things can come if he attacks europe or israel or any other country for that matter. iran is (i believe) the only officially shi'ite nation in the middle east, so it's not as if the only nation they resent is Israel because that would be quite false. does anybody know anything about iran's foreign policy towards russia and britain because there were some conflicts there around the pre WWII era and later as well.

I don't disagree with you that what Christians and Jews expect sounds equally ludicrous to most people, but for the sake of factual accuracy, you should know that Christians aren't expecting humanity to be united under one belief in this life. Eerily enough, this Imam sounds like he'd fit pretty well into the Christian prediction of the Antichrist: claiming to be god, bringing world peace, etc. But anyway, the point is that Christians expect something other than world domination.

i deleted my last post because i was bing a d**k. hope noone saw it.

the bomb iran video...funnier than i thought it would be because usually i hate those homemade flash video things that adults fwd to each other along with really tired jokes. but that was pretty silly, even though i got bored and didnt finish it.
