Personally, I find this somewhat stupid. The people who call it a "Polish concentration camp" should call it "Nazi concentration camp" instead. Then the name wouldn't need to be changed because of Poles being offended when it's called a "Polish concentration camp".

Discuss.

Wow... that's really, really dumb.

I mean, what exactly are they trying to do? Even if they get the name changed, people will still call it Auschwitz...

Take the Ivory Coast for instance. It's supposed to be called Cote d'Ivoire, like in French, but nobody does.

"Auschwitz Concentration Camp" is a lot easier to say than "Former Nazi German Concentration Camp Auschwitz-Birkenau". I don't know why they're wanting to change it. I mean, I've never heard it referred to as a "Polish Concentration Camp". I've always called it a "Nazi Concentration Camp" or "Nazi Death Camp".
If they change the name at all, I think it should be called "Nazi Concentration Camp Auschwitz". I mean, attaching "German" to the title is like rubbing salt in Germany's is kind of offensive to the German people. Not all Germans were Nazis.

agreed with Strong Rad. It's a bit silly and political all around, and i think it would just be insulting to brand germany on there. it's not as if it's a secret.

also, i don't think i've ever heard it referred to in such a starnge way. it's Auchwitz, the concentration camp, and people just call it Auchwitz. it's like how the US defense department issued a memo changing the name of the "war on terror" to the "global struggle against violent extremism" you can only polish a turd so much.

I never heard it referred to as a Polish concentration camp, though I do see that Poles would find that extremely offensive (not only would they not want to be associated with Nazis, Poles were significant Holocaust victims too).

But I do think it's a little silly, if only because nobody gives a darn about what it's officially called in the first place. Everybody just calls it "Auschwitz" and they'll continue to do so. I don't see anything seriously wrong with the renaming, though.
