The Daily Show's coverage was pretty good, but, if I were Cheney, and I was upset over this, it woulda been a little disrespectful (in the sense that it would be like twisting a salt covered knife). Given the joking that's been going on in the White House about it, I'm guessing that they're not gonna let him live this down. I'm just glad the shootee is doing better.

Still, the Daily Show's coverage was funny. My favorite part was the "Cheney is the first vice president since Alexander Hamilton to shoot someone"...

Well, it's starting.

I knew it was only a matter of time before Democrats blasted Cheney for not being "forthcoming" about this whole hunting accident. I'm glad they did as it only makes them look like more a circus act then they already are. Can someone please tell me what this hunting accident has to do with politics? Yep, absolutely nothing. But the Dems will make sure it does.

Oh, and I encourage anyone responding to refrain from starting sentences with "But the Republicans..." Thank you.

Please don't turn this into a republicans vs. democrats thing... You said that this doesn't have anything to do with politics, so please keep it that way.

To those on this board who are not conservative, I assure you, not all conservatives hate you. I promise.

Also, you shouldn't end a post telling people how to respond to your post. That's too much like other people here.

Applying paint to toast...
StrongRad, out.

I absolutely love this. Starting wars, taking a crap on minority rights, messing up the economy and environment aren't bad things, but bashing republicans IS because it's soooo predictable! The main problem with conservatives is that they view every "Opinion" as the same(only in public, not how they privately think, presumably, as they obviously believe theirs are inherently superior) and don't really care about the actual value contained within.

Most "liberals" don't find this anything more than amusing. Just because some Democrats(who aren't even liberals, technically, if you check Political Compass) "blasted" him doesn't mean that all the Lefties are coming down on him. We already have *plenty* to come down on him with.

You really don't have to make everything into one big Republican/Democrat war. If this were a war, you'd end up fighting on the same side of people like Robertson and Phelps. Your priorities are screwed.

Shooting someone in the head is a bad thing.

If anyone else shot someone in the head, they would get arrested and thrown in jail for at least a few years. Justice is justice.

Except in hunting accidents... That's the key, here. It was an accident, I hope.
I mean, the dude DID give a lot of money to the republican party. We Red Staters do some pretty stupid things now and then, but intentionally shooting someone that gives us money? I think that was an accident. Those things happen. (I know, horrible thing to say, but there are 100's if not 1000's of hunting accidents every year, this is one of those, nothing more, nothing less).

I agree. Rest assured that when Dick Cheney wants to get rid of someone, he has much better ways to get it done (some days I wish I had a big stamp of my own that says "Enemy Combatant"), and none of us ever hear about it.

Rose, did you read any of the previous post by StrongRad? If you want to turn this into a democrat/republican flame-fest, take it elsewhere.

I'M turning it into a Republican/Democrat argument? So what, you've just ignored the last 2 pages of rubbish Lahimatoa has been posting? I'm really getting sick of you giving that guy breaks. The is at least the fifth time where you've told me off instead of him, or put my "crimes" on an equal level as his when they were blatantly not.

If you want me to remain calm and respectful, this is not the way to do it.

Actually, Rose, if anything, I have been a lot more lenient with you than I have with Lahi. I've locked several of his threads, and publicly (and through PMs) told him to chill.

Now, I'm telling you the same thing.

I don't care who "started it", if it breaks out, I am putting an end to it.

I'll tell you the same thing I told Lahi... "I know you're capable of rational, semi-logical debate. Please stay there. If you have a problem, take it to PM's. If a flame war breaks out on my board, I don't care who started it, I will end it, and those involved will be dealt with. You've gotten a second chance (3rd or 4th for you, Rose), don't blow it. If you have a problem with anything I say or do, take it up with an admin. Know, though, that I have probably taken the matter up with them before taking action."

Now, both of you, play nice before I send you quail hunting with Dick Cheney.

I was talking to Stu, who most definitely has been unfair in his decisions. Not that I have any idea why you were made a moderator, anyway.

Do you get your kicks by being disrespectful?
I agree, this shouldn't be a political battle. But I do believe that some democrats are over reacting to this. I mean, in PA, this stuff happens all the time, and an overwhelming majority of which are never reported to the press or anything. I know that this is a different situation, but it is still a bit much.

I beg to differ.. You're still here. You've violated rules left and right (you're not the only one and I'm not singling you out), and been warned and banned multiple times, yet you are still here. If Stu REALLY wanted to pick on you, you wouldn't be here.

And.... TOASTPAINT

SUMMARY: The shooting was an accident, but the news got all "yellow" on us & devoted all day to it. American media at work: gotta love it.

In other words, crap happens.

The only reason I've "violated rules left and right" is because of cosntant provocation that's gone completely unnoticed. If the rules were a little more suited to an actual political debate forum, I wouldn't need to be warned and banned multiple times(twice).

This is the best post I've read all week. You're not responsible for your own actions because a) people provoked you into breaking the rules, and b) the rules are wrong in the first place. Genius!

If Chewbacca lives on Endor, you must acquit!

This is the second time this week you've posted an almost lahimatoa like patronising, skewed and idiotic retort. You threw out what I said in an overly blunt manner hoping that it makes me look stupid without making any actual effort to prove me wrong, because that would require intelligence and debating skills which is beyond the realm of your ignorant little cranium.

Rose, for someone who wants intelligent debate, you seem to love ad hominem attacks.. This thread is locked, for now, anyways.

ok... Now, that's all been taken care of.

When I heard about this, at first I was like, "There's the Bush administration for you." But then I reealized that it was an accident.

I'm surprised nobody has done the requisite parodies yet. You know, "Cheney shot the sheriff..." or "Cheney shot a man in Reno..."

More metrically sound, of course.

What shirt?

Anyway, this would have turned out okay if it wasn't the vice-president. Am I the only one who is thinking this the whole time?

The shirt they're selling at the bottom. "Cheney Shot First" (parodying the Han vs. Greedo shootout alterations in the re-releases of Star Wars Episode IV and the shirts that came because of it).

no.
Most people I know (liberal and conservative) see it that way. If it had been my neighbor accidently peppering a dude with birdshot, you wouldn't have heard anything about on the local news, much less international news.
