I'm just wondering what variety of Christians we have here. I'm sorry if I left your particular denomination out by accident, it wasn't on purpose.

If you are not a Christian, you need not post here.

Please lock if this has already been posted.

Well, I think Joey posted something like this, but that was ALL religions. This is more specific.

I'm Catholic. And I got the first response.

I put "Other", since I haven't really "studied" about which specific denomination I follow. All I can say is that I'm Protestant.

I'm a Roman Catholic. I go to Church every Sunday. I have to say I'm pretty religious, but no to the point that I'm preaching it all the time.

I'm a Baptist. I'm a religious guy, but, like ramrod said, I don't go around preaching His word to everyone. I like to bring my friends to church, but I'm just not the kind of guy to openly preach.
I haven't been baptized yet, though. Coming soon, I know it. :)

Just to let you know Mormonism and Jehovah's Witness aren't Christian denominations. I'm Lutheran but I believe the more important thing is having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Actually, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a Christian denomination. We aren't catholic or protestant, but we are Christian. I can't speak for the Jehovah's Witnesses though. I don't know what they consider themselves.

Hmm...I wonder if I'm the only Episcopalian here.

I'm pretty religious--I attend church every Sunday, as well as Easter and Christmas services, I'm an acolyte (those crosses are HEAVY!), and I go to a Christian summer camp. I think I'm allergic to my church, though--my asthma tends to kick up when I go there. It's an old church, so that probably has something to do with it.

So, yeah. I'm an Episcopalian, though I attended a Roman Catholic church for about a month. (Episcopalians are Anglicans, by the way--I'm never entirely sure whether we count as Catholics or Protestants.)

Anglican is Protestant. It goes back to Henry the VIII, when he broke away from the Roman Church over a disagreement about divorce.

Us Lutherans are not terribly different than Anglicans. In fact, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) is in fellowship with the Episcopal Church. We Missouri Synod folks (i.e., the OTHER Lutherans) tend to take the Bible a little more seriously than the ELCA, though, but our liturgies look much the same.

I'm non-denominational.

I don't like denominations.

I went to a couple southern baptist churches back when I was a kid, but once I was able to choose my own church, I chose a more energetic kinda place.

I play acoustic guitar and sing in the praise band at my church, and I'm about to start a Christian Punk band. Yahoo.

I put Baptist, which is pretty close to Evangelical. Which is what I am.

Just curious, what is the difference between Evangelical and Lutheran?

You probably should've put non-denominational on there. I'm one too.

That depends on who you ask. If you ask us LCMS people, we'd say WE were evangelical, whereas we believe the ELCA not to be (mostly because they take the Bible as seriously as we do).

Some people define Evangelical as taking the Bible (the ευαγγελιον, or Good News) seriously. Others define it as people who are actively trying to share their faith with those who do not yet know Christ. Either way, the LCMS fits the bill.

But for most people, Evangelical is almost synonymous with Fundamentalist.

I go to an Assemblies of God church but don't really think of denomiations. I suppose that would be Evangelical. Whatever it is, that is me- I don't simply go to a church of said denomination but actually believe it. Voted Lutheran because that seems closest.

Well well Seethroo, you play acoustic guitar at church. I played drums til recently (due to leaving town). We should start a band! I can play the drums! :hr:

Are you saying that Mormons and JW's are incapable of having a relationship with Jesus Christ? How do you know the status of my relationship with Christ???

I too am LDS, Mormon if you prefer, and consider my relationship with Jesus Christ one if not the most important thing in my life.

I think that I have had enough conversations with JW's to say that they believe themselves to be Christian, and although I think that a lot of their interpertations are really far off, they (the ones Ive talked to anyway) know the Bible better than most any mainstream Christian that Ive ever run across. I would believe that many of them have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Why do people try to define a person's belief contrary to what they say? To my knowledge there is only one who can do so without error.

Q: How do you tell the Lutherans at a Star Wars movie?
A: When someone says, "The Force be with you," they respond in unison, "And also with you."

Well, at least most of them. The rest will chant, "And with thy spirit."

I love that joke! I heard that in church years ago!

To get into a denomination debate, Dids, when I lived in Canada, our church was part of the ELCIC (Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada), which I assume is the Canadian counterpart to the ELCA, but now the church my parents attend here in TN, is part of the Missouri Synod. My biggest complaint about MS is they do not let women be ministers. Other than that (as far as a regular parishoner like me is concerned), it's fairly similar. [/feminist rant]

Oh - PS, if you haven't guessed, Lutheran here.

Oooh, Catholic Light... All the God, half the guilt!
My girlfriend loves that (she's Lutheran, too)

As for me, I'm Baptist, I think.. I mean, I don't get preached to about the evils of gays, disney, or all those other things you hear that Baptists hate.. Every Sunday, I hear "sure, there are evil people in the world, but before you condemn them, you better look inside yourself"...

I don't put all that much importance in denomination. I go to other denomination's churches.. It doesn't bother me..

I'm an RC, yo. But not a very good one. I think I've been to different places of religion than church in the past three years.

The last time I went to any form of Church service was my Baccalurate Mass at the end of my Senior Year of high school.
