What do you guys think about nudism? Lot's of people think it's like some kind of sexual cult, but it's really not. Me and my family are all nudists because my parents and their paernts beleived that it enables you to grow up with respect for the human body and to be with out shame. I don't know if this topic will get locked or not, I just want to know what you all think.

It's not gonna get locked (by me, anyway), unless it goes down the toilet..

I'm kinda curious where it's gonna go. If one of the admins wants to lock it, though, there's nothing I can do.

While I think that whole "growing up with more respect for your body" thing is kinda hooey, but if it helps others respect their bodies, I guess it's ok. The only problem I see myself having with it is nudists going out and about in public. I'd say a lot of people would rather not see that.

I can see why some would flock to the lifestyle, though. We WERE born naked, after all, and I suppose it saves a fortune on clothes.

I don't have a problem with it. I always think that people who do have a problem with nudism are those "soccer mom" types who are stuck in the '50s.

I went to a nude beach once, it was fun. Please don;t freak out if you quoted me a saw this.

I have no problem with nudism, just some of the people who decide to go au natural.

how does wearing clothes create disrespect for the human body?

personally, i think a little bit of shame isn't such a bad thing.

but then, i hate being naked.

Some people might say the nude body is a beautiful thing; but I say, not from all angles.

:p

Yeah, I don't really think that we're ment to be parading around in the buff; mainly because of religous reasons. Sure, Adam and Eve were naked in the beginning, but after they sinned, shame was introduced, and it's been that way ever since. I dunno if we should try to change that.

I say whatever makes people comfortable. But I think that based on the current standards in society, the nudism should be confined to places where it is appropriate, ie) your home, colonies, etc.

But for me personally, I wouldn't ever become a nudist.

I can understand and respect the idea behind nudism, but overall I think I'd feel too uncomfortable around those who practice it, especially outside of their colonies. Refer to one of my favorite Family Guy episodes on the subject - pretty much all feelings of awkwardness expressed by the characters during that episode would be close to mine! :p

I can see how some people could do that, but please think of the people like Funkstar!!

Just think, what do you get when you add funkstar and a naked girl together.

Whatever you're thinking is wrong. Nothing like THAT.

I'm not a nudist myself, but I have nothing against nudists. More power to 'em, I say -- if they're that comfortable with their bodies, let them show it off in the privacy of their own homes or designated areas (like beachers and such).

Just if I see ANYONE naked and in the bushes out by the park .. yeah, no respect for that guy

Nudists can be nudists for all I care. I don't understand it, but I don't understand a lot of cultures. I wouldn't really like it if people started walking around i nthe nude everywhere though.

And strongsteven a question, Don't you get cold in the winter?

Along with vegetarianism, nudism is a human behavior I cannot understand.

It's not about being proud of your body, it's an issue of practicality.

Nudism + winter = hypothermia.

Now, if you want to walk around your house naked with your family, OK. Seems a bit creepy to me, but as long as you don't go out in public like that, I guess there's no problem.

you know, ive been contemplating about being a nudist for a while. it seems so free and the feeling to be able to move around freely. but then again, i always seem to get cold, so no.
as for being around nudists, i dont have any problem with it.

I do, but not in the way you're probably thinking. I do wear clothes when I go outside.

I was a vegetarian for a while ... but I started passing out a lot, so that didn't fly for too long =P Can't say I was ever a nudist, however.

Clothes came about as a practical way to overcome the dangers of the natural world--namely, as a way to keep ourselves warm from the cold and cut down a lot on scratches from shrubbery and sunburns. Unless I'm really mistaken there...

I don't agree with the religious reasons Douglas stated about wearing clothes. As far as shame vs. acceptance of the human body...I believe that we grow up (at least here in America) to fear the naked body, and to treat nudity and sex as some sort of taboo. Now, I understand that adults want to teach us as children to RESPECT the human body and the act of expressing physical love (i.e. sex), but I think it's taken so far that we don't respect it--we FEAR it...and therein lies the dilemma. It's not proper to talk about sex or the naked body, because it makes people uncomfortable--and they are uncomfortable because they were socialized to feel afraid and uncomfortable talking about it. Well, nuts to that, I say. ;) Respect it all, but don't fear it. No need for that.

It's been millenia... I'm not sure how anyone could know.
As for nudism, I don't see how it teaches you to respect the body... I usually just excercise and eat healthy for that.

Nudism huh?
Well, I don't think I would ever catch on, but for the reasons metioned by PianoMan, I suppose it could be a good thing. So, rock on nudists.

I'm sorry...I found that kinda offensive. I happen to be a vegetarian, and I don't see why it would be hard to understand. But toastpaint.

Personally, I've no problem with nudists (unless they're going around naked at, like, a church or school or something), though I can't say I'd ever want to be one. I can barely even stand going barefoot on dirt, so the concept of not wearing anything doesn't appeal much to me. Also, there's the cold, and the fact that I get enough weird stares as is. But if someone else wants to be a nudist, that's fine by me.

HA. JITKA GOT PWNED.

Personally, I don't have a problem with it. But it's something that I'd never do. :P

As is my usual opinion of a lot of these topics, nudism is just another something that does not bother me one way or the other. If people want to go without clothes, then fine.

Mandy, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with vegetarianism, (or nudism for that matter) but I just don't see why either of the two would be attractive options to anyone.

But you're right, toastpaint.

Vegetables and fruits are healthier than meats, and you can get all the nutrients you need without meat and it might be a little more natural, but I don't think it makes much difference.
I like hot dogs.
