A right wing fundamentalist Christian group has warned that Barbie is not just a child’s toy, but also a tool for the “homosexual agenda.”

The Concerned Women for America, a conservative group that “promotes Biblical values,” made the claim based on a survey on the doll’s website, which asked users whether they were “A Boy,” “A Girl” or “I Don’t Know.”

The group claims that the toy’s manufacturer, Mattel, has “overstepped a line” and accused it of joining forces with the “transgender movement.”

"It’s the idea that well, maybe people aren’t born a particular biological sex, or they are but that shouldn’t determine their gender identity," Bob Knight, the male director of the group said yesterday. "And that’s a very big component of the homosexual activist agenda now."

Mattel said the reason for the neutral answer was more to do with human error than anything sinister.

Lauren Bruksch, a spokeswoman for Mattel, explained that the inclusion was an oversight, since on all online polls conducted by the company includes a neutral answer for younger children.

Ms Brusksch claimed that the survey was meant to have “I don’t want to say” rather than “I don’t know.”

However, the fundamentalist group has urged its members and supporters to boycott Barbie and other Mattel products as a result of what it claims is Mattel’s “very dangerous” approach.

The dolls of both Barbie and her boyfriend Ken lack gender defining sexual organs.

I think this paragraph - ""It’s the idea that well, maybe people aren’t born a particular biological sex, or they are but that shouldn’t determine their gender identity," Bob Knight, the male director of the group said yesterday. "And that’s a very big component of the homosexual activist agenda now." says it all. It means we can't put their efforts down to "ignorance" as they are perfectly aware of what they are doing. They know they are crushing people's rights, and are quite happy to do so as pushing their beliefs onto other people is probably the core component of their beliefs. Their intentions are blatantly malign and I'm disgusted that Mattel actually apologised for it's wording seeming "sinister".

I don't know how people can sit through this and think something drastic isn't needed. I'm sick of this lobbying and if ever there was a true face of evil in the western world today, this would be it. It's the stuff of it.

Excuse me- HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Please tell they aren't serious about this. The Barbies are not supposed to have sexual organs. They are toys. It's not part of some grand homosexual agenda. Not to mention, I don't think a little girl is going to want to play dress-up with Malibu Stacy if she is anatomically correct. Further more, I wouldn't want my kid learning about that stuff until I feel they are ready.

They practically are already, if you think about it... whose side do you think Jesus would be on?

Yeah, before you think that Christians are out to get everyone and everything, remember, just because they say they're christian doesn't mean they are..

Last I heard, Barbie was totally ok. My uber-religious, Southern Baptist aunt and uncle but tons o' Barbie stuff for their granddaughter. Seems like, if any Christians would have a problem with Barbie, it'd be them.

I think that since most people that are alternative in any shape, fashion, or form, and most Christians are against these extremists and their supporters(who are unfortunately a little more in number than you may think) and are against this kind of rubbish, why don't the GOOD guys form some kind of lobby group? Since it's for a just cause it wouldn't really be "sinking to their level". But if some organisation where to shout at the top of their voices about fundies as much as fundies shout about them, I think they'd give fundies a good run for their money. Some of these people are never going to change their views, so theb est thing that can be done is to tell them to shut up and hope they get tired of hearing themselves raise a generation of homophobes.

No, Rubix Cubes are a Sin against God and Nature due to the fact that the sheer diversity and non-discriminative nature of the colours involve is forwarding a multi-culturual, omni-sexual state of existence which is part of the Liberal Agenda.

And somehow, anyone with an "Agenda" is bad. We failed Common Sense class so we thought we'd get jobs as bigots instead.

There doesn't need to be a lobbyist group to oppose these people, because anyone with half a brain can use his common sense to realize that these people are idiots who are not to be listened to or taken seriously. They have no power, only a soapbox to shout from.

Everyone in America has the right to proclaim himself to be an idiot if he wishes. But I think most people are going to see this for what it really is: ultimate stupidity.

I just thought about something...

If Barbie WERE anatomically correct, wouldn't these people be mad about that? Seems to me that they're just part of the population that complains just to hear their heads rattle.

Like Jitka said, these people have a soapbox, but no power.

I said this about some people protesting on campus one day (protesting something that didn't exist and wasn't going to exist), and I think it's fitting here, too. "Those who know the least shout the loudest"..

man, those idiots, what will they say belongs to satan now?
"AND GOD SMOTE JESUS TO THE FIREY PITS OF HELL FOR HIS OUTBURST AT THE CITY!"

Also, they gotta relize that there is a whole nother Gender out there, the Mixed types, I.E. People who are both Physically, and we gotta relize this, because, possibly, soon they are gonna get more active and become another normal type of people, even though they do get beaten and killed everyday....jerks...

Actually, they do have a certain amount of power, and interfere with things on a regular basis. It's only very recently that people are stopping to listen to them. Lobby groups do tons of damage.

If they didn't have power, why did Mattel practically have to apologise?

I'm just saying that rational people will look at a situation like this one and recognize the idiocy, while the people who don't see how moronic it is are too stupid to be affected by any lobbyist group to oppose these people. They're just annoyances.

To avoid a lawsuit, I imagine.

This whole thing is INSANE. I laughed and laughed when I read the article. I think the "I don't know" option was probably put in there just to satisfy anyone who may not want to give a specific boy/girl answer, for whatever reason that might be, or human error, as they said. If anything, Barbie may create a poorer self-image for women, because of her "perfection". But even that's stretching it, I admit.

Yeah, I find it odd that they had no problem with the sexist nature of Barbie and the types of figures and advertising she has which are quite degrading. But they do have a problem with people promiting transgender equality; or in fact doing something that looks kind of like activism if you get drunk and look at it through binoculars with funny drawings on the end. The fact that there could even be a lawsuit over that is astonishing and shows how dangerous these people can be.

-_-;;; wow. I can't believe people would even THINK to cause a riot over something so...rediculous! It's a flippn' TOY! Who cares?!

Oh and not ALL Christians think that way BELIEVE me. I'm a Christian myself and I think the whole argument over something as simple as a barbie doll is a waste of time. I mean seriously, don't these people have better things to do than to get worked up over something so silly?

I agree...for crying out loud, I don't hear any of this stuff at church. These people (and some people here...*cough cough*) are thinking we Christians analyize everthing modern...we're not that extreme...In fact, we're not extreme at all.

Just felt like getting that out.

I can see it in the headlines now...

"In the news today, a local Christian, Bob Bobberson, has sued the company in charge of Barney. Bobberson had this to say, "Barney is a male dinosaur, yet his color is purple. This can only show that barney is a maniac!!!!!!"

The lawsuit will be observed by the supreme court next week.

There is a difference. Barney IS a maniac. Ask Didymus.

Look. You can't judge all Christians by the marker of a few Barbie-bashers. You can't even judge all conservative Christians by the Barbie-bashers.

That'd be like me judging all vocal atheists by this guy.

Um, nobody is judging all Christians by these nuts. Where are you getting that idea?
