Ok Mormon dudes. and dudette. I think you are all feeling a little touchy. IanTheGecko and somebody else claimed that we're not Christian. We know that we are. It's a sensitive subject. But getting angry and in their faces isn't going to help anything. We just need to calm down. For example, lahimatoa, the paragraphs of the Catechism that BTG quoted are actually quite good. They teach the importance of scriptures, and how the Holy Spirit can open our minds and through Him, we can receive the Word. Nothing in either of those paragraphs that I could disagree with. Ian, I can tell you think you have the answer to Mormonism in a pretty little box. Now, if it were as easy to dismiss Mormonism as you claim it is, do you think it would be so popular? You make it sound so obvious that it's a load of hooey, that no intelligent person could choose it. But lots of intelligent people have, just as lots of intelligent people have chosen to be Catholic or Baptist or Muslim or Buddhist. General word to the wise in any camp. If you have found a simple obvious reason why something that millions of people believe is wrong, it's probably not as simple as you think. |

Man, I'd pay you a million in monopoly money for you to teach Einoo and other atheists that. Seriously. As I've come to find out, even the "mainstream" groups in Christianity disagree on what books from the Torah should be considered the Old Testament--among other inclusions and philosophies. I mean, with all the fighting and arguing that occurs between Christians, how can people seriously believe we're all plotting to take over the world? (Yes, I see this opinion thrown around A LOT. It highly disturbs me.) |

It's just because Christians are so widespread. I agree it's a bit stupid, if we're so religeous why wou;d we care about power? |

Last time I checked no Athiest on this forum has doen anything wrong to you...well, for the exception of KN.
I used to be Athiest and decided that I'm actually Agnostic, but with Catholic beliefs. For me most Athiests are just strictly logical thinks and never venture to the other side. And there are religious people like that too. Not everyone is a perfect mix. |

I'm not critical of atheism, DUA. If that's what they want to believe, hey, freedom of thought and religion. What drives me nuts are those who think religion or the concept of it is 1) completely harmful and a cancer to mankind in some way, 2) obsolete and needless or nonsense, or 3) think that they're smarter, strong-willed, or what have you for denying or not believing in the existence of God. Sure, no one except maybe KN has jabbed at ME personally, but given I am religious myself, well, I don't sit well with the idea of being considered "part of what plagues mankind or holds it back." Same reason why I get easily ticked off with "lol americans" type crap--I'm an American myself, and it applies to me. I don't jump on someone for being an atheist, but only when they make remarks like above. I think Upsilon is one but as of yet I haven't seen him make remarks of that caliber, and I haven't ran off after him with a 2x4. You'll note I didn't soy bomb Einoo until he popped off with that thread, and I know he's atheist. I've said it before, but it's possible to believe a certain way and at least have respect for another person's religious beliefs. That also applies to the fist fight going on here, but Racerx said it in such an eloquent way, well ... |

Well, I'm Mormon too. I like Mormon people, but I find it annoying if I don't see someone that's not my religion in a long time. I live in Rexburg, Idaho, where 95% of the people living there are Mormon. I liked Salt Lake better. Enough people of my religion so I don't feel aleinated, but not too much that I feel weird. |

AGREE'd! We're no more likely to take over the world than any other group of people. That's just silly! You know, it's kinda weird. When some people think of Christians, they think of the extreme, hateful ones--Jack Chick, Jerry Falwell, Fred Phelps, Pat Robertson, etc. Weird, because they seem to think they're such excellent Christians, but they kinda throw the whole "love thy neighbor" thing out the window. |

It's just because those people kept whining until someone listened. And when someone did listen, it made a big stink and everyone gets that whiny person name burnt into their memory. Which sucks because all we're doing is givin g these self righteous people more attention then they ever should have gotten. |

I'm half Russian Orthodox, does that count? In fact, I think I prefer Russian Orthodoxy to Catholicism in many of it's aspects. The churches are beautiful, the music is amazing, and even the Communion bread tastes good. Yeah, so I'm mainly Catholic with a Russian Orthodox background. Pretty sure I've posted that before, though. |

(and no, I'm not being sarcastic, either) I don't agree with that, really.. I don't call them fundies.. Tards will suffice. Fred Phelps, in particular makes people like Ann Coulter, Bill O'Reilly, and Michael Moore look useful. The bio on his site says he graduated high school at 16 with "highest honors" and got an American Legion Citizenship Award. How did he go from that to "De De De!"? The thing I hate is when people bring them up as an example of how "all Christians" are. |

I don't think it's fair to compare Michael Moore to Ann Coulter. Michael Moore, whether you like him or not, is protesting against corruption. Ann Coulter on the other hand just wants to reinforce outdated values on other people to make herself feel more comofrtable. |

So.... Rose. Have you ever considered that maybe the Bible really is the word of God? That maybe Jesus really is the Savior of all mankind? That maybe there really is an afterlife where we'll be judged on what we do here? And that maybe some things you view as "outdated morals" are really God's will for us? |

If you had pay more attention to what I say in my arguments, you'd already know my past religious experiences which provides an answer to that. Have you ever considered that there may be a God who will judge you on your recent behaviour and find it wrong? |

(See how pleasant a simple answer is?) Cute, but my posts are nowhere near as long as Trev-mum's. To answer your second question a bit more aptly; I don't care. Regardless of whether your God exists or not, I have my own set of morals that I uphold with my own inner strength. The existence of your God does not justify any negative behaviour done in his name; or any negative behaviour he may do in his own. And, just in case someone is thinking it, I also do not care for the possibility of a God that will send me to burn because of how he made me. |
