The Holocaust is the name applied to the genocide of minority groups of Europe and North Africa during World War II by Nazi Germany and its collaborators.

I remember going through a phase where I was also morbidly curious in the Holocaust and Nazi Germany. It still intrigues me to an extent

And let us not forget. It wasn't just Jews that the Nazis killed. Many Catholics, Lutherans, and other religious groups, as well as Gypsies and other "corrupt" races were put to death as well, for no reason other than that either they were not German or they disagreed with the Nazi regime.

I wish I could find my photo CD that has pictures of Dachau. You can never know the true nature of the Holocaust unless you visit a Concentration Camp. I can tell you it was and is one of the most sobering experiences of my life.

Well, Hitler was hit with Mustard Gas during WWI, and he did have Parkinson's, so it is quite possibly that he was mentally diseaded.

I'm pretty sure we all know what the Holocaust is, I'm just putting that there for context. The Holocaust is arguably the most violent, cruel, inhuman collection of acts of hatred, violence and racism ever recorded in human history and the saddest part about it is how recently in history it occurred. To think such acts could have happened in the already well-established culture of the twentieth century has always blown my mind. I consider myself to be an amateur Holocaust historian and I have always been morbidly curious concerning this disturbing chapter in European history. I'm not quite sure why - maybe I feel reading up on the sufferings of the Holocaust can someone help take away the pain of the millions of innocent people who suffered and died, even though I know it really can't. The Holocaust opens up all kinds of topics for discussion - historical, obviously, but also racial, theological, ethical and lots of other "als", too. This topic is meant for broad discussion of the Holocaust and any opinions are open, even Holocaust denial. I ask that there be no bashing of other people's opinions, although fact-based debating is fine. Respect everyone's posts and views on the subject, unless their posts are extremely anti-Semitic (i.e., "Jew jokes"). In that case, just ignore them.

I remember going through a phase where I was also morbidly curious in the Holocaust and Nazi Germany. It still intrigues me to an extent, and it IS indeed an indescribably horrid thing that happened. For me, though, even though such genocide envelops unmentionable evil, as I stated in this thread here, "In my opinion, the single worst crime in all the history of humanity is to steal away somebody else's right to individual thought." Of course, that's just a piece of what Adolph Hitler and his propagandists did, by spewing forth such horrible diatribe of prejudice and hatemongering.

Not to mention homosexuals and disabled people... The whole thing was completely and utterly repulsive and reprehensible. That's pretty much all I have to say.

You hear stories, see film strips and photographs...but none of that can prepare you for what you feel when you actually stand where it happened. I feel that so many strong emotions are permanantly imbued there, where anyone can feel it just from walking around there.

I had always heard Syphilis, but apparently, there's more to it than just that.

Officer, you had to raise a puppy for over a year, and then, to graduate, you had to kill it. If you hesitated, then you failed. I'm pretty sure it was for the S.S. officers, but I may be wrong.
