The PSP is a nice machine, but it only ships with 32MB of storage. So if you don't care about anything other than music and video playback, it's a horrible choice--you end up paying almost $300 for a bulky box with only 2GB of storage, whereas the same amount would get you an iPod with 30GB of storage with equally good video and audio playback.

but i want to play games too! not to mention, i don't like very many songs.

Actually, you can watch videos on the Nano. You can also play games like tetris, half life, and doom.

The Creative Zen Vison: M does MPEG1/2/4, XviD, AVI, MJPEG, WMV9
The Video iPod does M4V, Mov and MP4.

The Creative Zen Vison:M can connect to a projector or TV with the video cable for video playback.
The Video iPod can't do that.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought this thread was called "So I want to get a new iPod", not "Say why Zen is better than the iPod".

It's not true that the iPod can't be connected to a TV, but it does require the $35 dock. And you're right about the video formats, though with fast converters readily available for all platforms, how much of an incentive this is for the average user is debatable.

I just got a dock for my iPod so that I can connect it to my home theatre system and use that system's remote control to control the iPod. Unfortunately, I have to use a special spacer to hold the iPod in the thing. It comes with spacers for the mini, the shuffle, and the video, but not for the Nano. I'm waiting on Onkyo to send me one. They said I should have it by this weekend. Woot.

That's odd--unless I'm mistaken, Roxy's Nano came with the spacer. Oh, but maybe you bought yours before the universal dock came out.

Mine had some sort of dock/base thing, but I don't know if that's it or not. I guess I could/should try it.
All I know is that in the package for the Onkyo Dock, there was this thing saying (in rather bold letters) "This dock will not work with iPod Nano without <some part number>> spacer. This spacer is available free of charge from Onkyo by dialing <some 800 number> or from our website." or something like that.

Ohh, you got a third-party dock? Then I dunno. You can see the spacer/adapter Roxy got on this page, second photo from the bottom. It's just a flimsy little piece of plastic.

Thanks for the input, juys, and for the links. I was talking to a guy at Future Shop yesterday and he was also trying to sway me from the iPod idea. He showed me a couple of other mp3 players that store the same amount of music, and cost less. So I guess I have some thinking to do. When I have some more time, I'll check out those links and try to figure it out from there. The idea of the Video is really tempting, but I'm falling away from it more and more as I realize how much money I actually have. Meh, I'll figure it out eventually. I'm not going to have the money for a few weeks anyhow.

And Ramrod, sorry, but the Botfriend has already laid claim to the Shuffle
