Downloaded.

I already had spell-check in Safari and the new tab management system, too.

Yay, new version!

Boo, weeks of waiting for updates to all the extensions and themes I use...

I really wish Fx would just pick an API and stick with it...

That's that button that reads "World Destruction". Don't question it, it just turns off the spellchecker.

Just installed it. The only thing that didn't carry over was Fasterfox, and I'm already noticing it going a bit slower. But it's still nice.

You need to separately download dictionaries for it.

I have a question, just how slow is it going? Crawling slow, or just a tad bit slow?

Just a tad. Some of fasterfox's speed improvements aren't real improvements, but changes in how things are rendered so it just looks like it's going faster. I think most of my "speed decrease" is just that perception thing.

By the way, people with fasterfox, I hear it's best to put it on the middle setting and no higher, or it starts clogging these tubes. Or at least increasing server load unnecessarily. Joey shouldn't have to pay more out of pocket (GET IT?!! BWAAAAAHHH!!) just for fasterfox. It's what I heard anyway. If that's not true, someone correct me.

Wow, I love Firefox 2.0, especially the spell checker. I also like the ability to scroll through your tabs now so they're not too tiny to read. Go, Mozilla!

That's probably why Firefox 3 is coming out pretty soon.

Here's a question.

I'd like to set it up so that my Bookmarks will automatically open in new tabs when I click them, rather than in the current tab. I know you can right-click them to do that, but I'd much rather have it open in a new tab by default, rather than having to select it. Any way I can make that happen?

Well, if you want it to open in a new tab in one click, you can just use the middle mouse button on it. If you don't have a middle mouse button, I think there's a setting in windows so that if you click both left and right at the same time, it acts as a middle button. Dunno if there's a setting specifically for the bookmarks, but the button thing should get you pretty much what you need.

Actually, that'll work, Tig. I just have to remember to Middle Click.

Droideka did the same thing until I showed him that the middle click opened new tabs. Small world.

Okay, here's another issue. How do I retrieve something from Firefox' cache?

For example, if I find a track on Acid Planet that I like, but there's not a downloadable version, how might I retain a copy of the playback version from the cache?

And before you suggest one, none of the "Download Embedded" plugins seem to work.

I don't think the Fox puts long audio like that in its cache...

If you can't find something...if you have Audacity you can always just record it under "Stereo Mix."

I use Wavepad for that sort of thing. More features than Audacity. But actually, I can make that happen in Explorer. I just don't like having to open another program and wait for the audio to download again.

If it's in firefox's cache, you can find it at about:cache?device=disk - just put that in the URL box thing. Since it lists everything and not really in order, you should probably clear your cache, then open up what you want, and when it's done downloading take a look in there for something that's about the right size. Click on the link that says the URL it came from, and it'll pop up more info about that file, including what file it's saved in on your disk. It's in a hidden folder, so when you go looking you gotta make sure hidden folders are visible. Take the file it says its in, copy it to your desktop, and rename it to something with the right extension. If you're not sure what the extension should be, look on the cache file info page again where it says "response-head". The last line of that entry says what kind of file it is.

I guess the firefox cache is more complex than the explorer cache for security reasons... Anyway, like Code J said, it might not save certain audio streams. It doesn't save certain video streams, either, like the clips on the Comedy Central Motherload, probably because they've done some setting to make it not cache it so you can't use it yourself. Oh Stephen, you're so elusive. *sigh*

Looks like Firefox doesn't store audio data from Acid Planet in cache. I'll just have to deal with IE when I want to save those audio streams. Just as well; it's quite rare that there's not a downloadable version of an audio track. But thanks anyway. At least now I have a way to access the cache when I need it.
