I have a really good idea. How about any time one of you guys wants to write in this thread, first you read the title of the thread ("Has your school ever done anything this stupid?" for those of you who have forgotten), and then you think really hard about whether or not your post has anything to do with it at all. If it doesn't, maybe you should think twice about writing it. Actually, this should go for every thread, not just this one.

ANYWAY.

In my dorm, we aren't allowed to have microwaves in our rooms, so instead there's one in every wing (four on each floor). Well, people will use these microwaves at midnight to make popcorn or Easy Mac, and then leave it in there for too long. Well, this triggers the fire alarm, and since most people are asleep, we have to wake up and go outside in the freezing cold and wait for them to find out what happened before we can go back in. Well, because we caused so many fire alarms (at least one a week since we started living here back in August), we had our microwaves shut down temporarily as a punishment. After two weeks, they turned the microwaves back on. THAT SAME DAY, someone set off the fire alarm again. Now, we're not allowed to use our microwaves again. For the rest of the school year. I'm not angry at the school for doing this. I'm angry at the idiots who don't know how to use a freakin' microwave. Because of them, none of us can have Easy Mac anymore.

In b4 mod rebuttal.

To make this post relevant, we are allowed to go on the field trip. For a few moments before we left, I was getting really worried due to the class starting to act like a jerk.

Don't ask why I'm worried about not going on a field trip.

RESPONSE TO RHIN! I feel your pain. We can no longer cook ANYTHING!
The teachers can but we can't! We have to buy the awful cafeteria food or have ourselves make a lunch! If we don't have any money and no lunch, this is what the school says: And I Quote:

Quote:
You have no money? Go hungry. Bring money, then we can talk about you're food situation.

UNBELIEVABLE!

I'm not sure if I remember what the food situation at my school is. But I think they let you take a free lunch, but charge it on the bill for classes, supplies, etc.

But, unless I'm reading you wrong, you're still allowed to bring your own lunch from home? What's so bad about that?

And to Rhin: *sigh* I'm sorry that you've got to deal with freshman male dorms. That sort of experience is either amazing, or awful, depending on the mix that Student Life decided to throw in there.

Students shouldn't be allowed to cook with crap anyways because then they'd just screw around with it and start more complainy posts in here because everybody was too dumb to know that the "Popcorn" button won't heat your homemade taco for you.

There is nothing that's hard about having to pay for lunches that are probably actually really good/bringing in your own lunch.

My school butchered the schedule this year. Last year, and every year of the school's existence, leading up to last year, we had a great schedule.
Last Year Daily Schedule:
Monday/Tuesday: 7:30 - 2:30 (all periods)
Wednesday/Thursday: 7:30 - 2:00 (Wed: 1,3,5 ; Th: 2,4,6)
Friday: 9:00 - 2:30 (all periods)
Last Year Finals Schedule:
Monday: Normal Day
Tuesday: 7:30 - 11:00 (3,6)
Wednesday: 7:30 - 11:00 (1,4)
Thursday: 7:30 -11:00 (2,5)
Friday: NO SCHOOL

This Year Daily Schedule:
Monday: 8:20 - 2:30 (all periods)
Tuesday/Friday: 7:30 - 2:30 (all periods)
Wednesday/Thursday: 7:30 - 2:10 (Wed: 1,3,5 ; Th: 2,4,6)
This Year Finals Schedule:
Monday: Normal
Tuesday/Thursday: 7:30 - 1:50 (1,3,5)
Wednesday/Friday: 7:30 - 1:50 (2,4,6)

I hate school. Last year's schedule was amazing.

Do you go to a private school or something? Because my schedule is something like this:

Everyday: 8:00 - 2:30. All periods.

No, we just do stuff differently in San Diego.
And you'd be able to tell instantly my school is public. In 2000, before a new school opened, we had an enrollment of 3,500. Now it's around 2200.

Jeesh! The most I've ever had at a school is 800. But then again, only 43,520 people live in my city, and with 3 middle schools, that gets pretty small.

My thing is like in total it's 7-8 hours.

9 AM until 4:30 PM.

It used to be,

9 AM until 2:50 PM
but then someone abused the early getting-outedness by having their parents come and get them at 1 o clock.

I HATE YOU ROBERT DUVROUE!

Also, next year, they are screwing up the schedules where you have 2 classes a day. Yeah, good luck with that. Good thing I'll be out of there by then.

My school had over 10,000 students at the start of the semester. That puts my college behind Syracuse and Cornell for most students in Central New York. Not bad for two-year school.

Last year my college thought it would be good idea to shrink the semester from 15 to 14 weeks and lengthen classes from anywhere between 5-30 minutes. I don't mind the longer classes, but shaving a week of means that all the professors who slacked off of their schedules are even more hard pressed to finish in time for finals.

Indeed.

Threads evolve. Pet Peeves was originally simply about actual pet peeves, but since the it's become more of an "Angry rant about stuff you hate" thread, and that seems to work well. Same with this thread - now it's more of a general "Bad school policies" thread. Most of the posts I've seen here fit that criteria for the most part (or are part of a small tangent, which is fine) so I see no big problem.

Scheduling screwups? Oh, don't even get me started.

Normally, our year goes from roughly August 8th to May 25th or so. First/second Monday in August to the last/second to last Wednesday in May. For unknown reasons (I've heard a few theories), the county pushed back the start date two weeks, so we started on August 20th and we get out on June 6th. I dunno what we're gonna do for those last two weeks. State testing is in February, IB/AP testing is mostly at the beginning of May...what are we gonna do for the last four weeks, sit and twiddle our thumbs and worry about our grades...?

THEORIES FOR YEAR RESCHEDULE:
- It's always been like this. Apparently, way back when, they used to have the year set up like this. I can see why they changed, but I fail to see why they changed back.
- We want to start along with most of the rest of the country. There is no valid reason for this one.
- Lifeguards. August is prime tourist season - a lot of our lifeguards are high school students, so when the year starts at the beginning of August, a lot of lifeguards are being pulled off the towers because they have to go back to school. My solution to this is FIND OLDER LIFEGUARDS who will work, just for those two weeks or that month or something.

Okay, so, we had an assembly at school and the person asked us how we were feeling and I said, "So Good!" like in TGS. I got in SOOOO Much trouble for saying something unrelated to school.

You don't yell stupid stuff out at an assembly, that's why you got in trouble.

I know a guy who used to live in america. Apparently, his headmaster kept telling them how "special" they were, and while a class was doing an exam, the students had to "clap quietly" for a band. If the music didn't bother them, I doubt the clapping would.

One time I ran up to give the mascot a hug and wound up tackling it instead.

Everybody loved me for it.

Now, see, our official school sports team is the Golden Panthers, right?

Well, our mascot's costume is the wrong animal. It's a lion, mane and all.

With one bandaged foot.

And no gloves.

Here come the Golden Panthers and their mascot, the injured lion with man-hands.

Poor you. xDD We're the Hawks. I think our mascot is technically a bald eagle but it doesn't really matter. It is a little disconcerting when the costume is stuffed into a bag with one of the eyes just staring at you from the ball of fur.

And more.

So we had the Snow Queen assembly / pep rally.

The only part that wasn't fail was the slam dunk contest.

Of course, I heard rumors that the school board won't be doing these assemblies anymore because we can't take the true voting part of them seriously. You know. Who will be snow queen?

A good amount of students voted for this guy and even papered the school with... papers saying he should be snow queen.

So, technically, if that DOES happen and we don't get these anymore, it'll be a win-lose. I'd still rather want these things to be optional.

WE'RE Not allowed to vote for ANYTHiNG!

the teachers think that they have some kind of almighty power over the universe because they run a classroom. Like, once, we were electing a class president (well, not US, her) and she says "Hey, you, whatever your name is. You are the class leader thing".

Heaven forbid a teacher actually DOES her job! I hate people like that, don't you?

Also, most of time kids will pick some F-- kid instead of a smart kid.
