Roffle

I like hymns for the Christmas season, mostly, with one exception:

Lesee.

I like really slow, sappy, emotional Christmas songs. Can't think of any names, but I'll just kneel by the radio and dream and do stuff. Yeah.

I'm sorry to be Scrooge-ish, but I really hate ALL Christmas music. It just annoys me more than anything in the world. And being in choir doesn't help m liking of it. As you can imagine, around this time, all we sing are carols, and we have been just about everywhere, in stupid little caroling costumes, singing crappy songs for random people.

I'm getting coal this year...

:p

Does anyone have a site for mp3 hosting? I have an mp3 of some guy singing Oh Holy Night! and it's HILARIOUS! I wanted to show you guys.

EDIT: http://h1.ripway.com/jake_mecham/Oh!HolyNight!.mp3

Tell me what you think...

And it looks like the url isn't working because of the "!". Just copy and paste.

I do!

And a lot of people might be surprised how many "standard" Christmas songs are in the hymnals.

If you read the whole thing, you'll see some people have said they like those. I like 'em.

My favorite is "The 12 days of Christmas" by the Muppets. You can't have Christmas without it.

Are You talking about those carol type ones like "the 12 days of chritmas" and stuff like that?
I was meaning those medieval (as deathlypallor said) Gegorian chant type songs.

I know, I thought there were some dudes on the first page that said they were cool. But, if not, they are.

Anybody heard the redneck days of Christmas?

BTW, if you guys are wondering why I post a lot of redneck stuff, I live in Kentucky. I don't act like a redneck or talk like one, but it is my heritage, sorta. My dad is from Florida.

No... but sounds interesting.

My favorite christmas tune...
Tom Waits and Peter Murphy - Christmas Sucks!

Urgh, I'm hating Christmas songs. I've been listening to them at work since Thanksgiving, and I'm going crazy. That Alvin and the Chipmunks song is played at least three times a day, every day.

I truly feel for you... I think the song I mentioned might put a damper on those feelings...

Plus, christmas songs don't necessarily represent the true feelings of the season. For example, the feeling of anxiety whilst making sure you don't get plowed into some drunk driver (which almost happened to me last night...well, last night when you read this) and/or procrastinators who didn't buy gifts until dusk on Christmas Eve.

Modern Christmas music is disingenuous garbage. That is why I prefer sarcastic christmas music or gregorian chant (because it's gorgeous.)

My personal favorites are from a group called the Vince Guaraldi Trio. You may recognize some of their music from the Charlie Brown cartoons.

Does "Santa's Beard" by TMBG count?

One of my favorites is 12.23.95 by Jimmy Eat World on one of their first albums. Really great song.

The only Christmas songs I don't get tired of (for the most part): the Barenaked Ladies' Barenaked for the Holidays. Particularly...

Elf's Lament (featuring Michael Bublé)
God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen/We Three Kings (featuring Sarah McLachlan) (excellent, excellent song-my favourite version by far)
Carol of the Bells

Some of the songs from BftH are available here, actually. Currently, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen is available, nicely enough.

EDIT: Eh, Bugkiss, I don't mean that I liked all of it. I do think there were a lot of tracks that didn't really add anything to the album, unfortunately... it was short anyway, as well.

I'm a BNL fan and was severely dissapointed with that. The only good song, Iin my opinion, was Elf's Lament.

I have the "It's a Punk Rock Christmas 2003" thing and there are tons of awesome songs there :P
also I like some of the classics we have to sing at school because they're so lame
and then there's probably something else I can't remember
