I don't actually own a PSP (*sniff*), but I have a really cool gaymer friend, and he lets me play his games all the time.
I have to say that Lumines OWNS Tetris, and that the PSP is the neatest little handheld I have ever played, and I've been there from Game Gear to DS.
Lumines is a 'falling-block' type puzzle game. You get a square made up of four little blocks (it can be a 1 colour or a mix of 2 colours, no more than 2), and you combine these little blocks into squares, rectangles....at the same time, you have what is called a 'timeline' continually zooming across the screen clearing your blocks that have combined into squares and rectangles. The most innovative part of the game is the music though. Every level has its own music and skin, and you pass levels to gain these skins and music. Every time you put down a block, it's part of the music. Clearing blocks adds more notes, and if you get a particularly big combo, you get a huge beat added to the music. It's by the same guy who made Rez for the PS2, and I have to say, I am completely addicted to this game.
There's also a versus mode, which is pretty much like single, except the screen is divided in half and you play tug-a-screen with your enemy. The more combos you have, the more screen you have, and the less combos your enemy can make. You can also win things like avatars as well! I was a duck, but there's pigs and little discs too! There's also a puzzle mode in which you arrange the falling blocks into shapes.
Has anyone else here played Lumines!? I love puzzle games, and the slick design plus awesome music have me totally addicted. For more information and some videos, please visit this gamespot link:

EDIT: Removed owing Tetris, because of you 'classic' gamers.
