Ugh. I hate condiments. Except for ketchup, BBQ sauce, plum sauce (sometimes) and the red sweet & sour sauce from Chinese restaurants.

Anything else is vomitorious: mustard, relish, mayo, tar-tarrrr..... Blech.

Plum sauce? Man, just when I thought you Canadianites couldn't get any wierder, you prove me wrong.

I dislike most condiments as well, except ketchup. I hate the smell of ketchup, but don't mind it's taste.

Is that just a Canadian thing? I didn't know that. What do you Yanks dip your chicken fingers in, then?

It tastes like sweet & sour sauce that you get at McDonalds or whatever, but a little different. It's hard to describe.

Y'know what condiment I like that you just don't see enough of? Pesto! That stuff is prooty grood.

I like ketchup, and I like mayo in moderation. But I don't like tartar sauce or BBQ sauce (More like OMGWTFBBQ sauce! Har!). I don't dislike sweet & sour sauce, but I prefer my Chinese food spicy so I never get it. I only like worcestershire sauce in very small quantities added to other things (e.g. a bit sprinkled on a burger while it's grilling). I'm not familiar with plum sauce. I like tomato or marinara sauce if it's not too chunky.

In addition to tomatoes, I also don't like onions. I don't mind the flavor if it's mixed with other stuff (e.g. salsa), but I don't like big chunks of onion, partly because of the texture.

I like broccoli when it's in Chinese food, but I'm not a big fan of it raw. I like spinach if it's part of a nice green salad.

Speaking of salads, my favorite dressing by far is Bleu Cheese. I'll eat Ranch or Caesar in a pinch, and I like a good Italian dressing, but that's about it for dressings.

I'm not a big fan of salads. They just don't really work with me. I rather have my food at least cooked a little, not just raw pieces of lettuce, carrots, tomatoes, and other type foods stuff.

I hate salad dressing. Mostly because of the vinegar. I freakin' hate vinegar. My boyfriend puts tons of malt vinegar on his fries and it's so disgusting I want to puke my pants. It smells like stinky feet.

As for creamy dressings, I think my mayo aversion is responsible for my hatred for creamy stuff. So I'll occasionally eat naked salad, but not very often.

I also hate mushrooms. Not really the taste, because when they're in spaghetti sauce you can't taste them, but the texture. Ew.

I'm a big fan of salads. Here's my perfect salad:
  • Mixed greens: iceberg, romaine, green leaf, even some of those things that look live actual tree leaves
  • Shredded carrots
  • Cheese: either finely-shredded mozzarella or a hard grated cheese like parmesianw
  • Bacon. Bacon really makes the salad.
  • Croutons. I'm very particular about croutons. They can't be too hard, too dense, too soft, or too crumbly. Somewhere in the middle.
  • Bleu Cheese dressing, or a really good Italian dressing
Those are the essentials. If I'm feeling crazy, some chopped green olives are a nice touch. I'll tolerate chopped black olives, too. Things I will not tolerate on my salad:
  • Tomatoes
  • Cucumber
  • Onion
  • Egg (ew! keep that stuff off my salad!)
  • Mushrooms
Of the big restaurant chains, Applebee's is a good example of a great salad, as long as you tell them to leave off the egg (they don't chop their tomatoes, cucumbers, or onions, so they're easy to pick off). Olive Garden is a great example of a good Italian salad, and there I'm willing to make an exception for some onion, and the jalapeno they put in there is a nice touch that ordinarily I might not enjoy. Perkins has a really good chicken bread bowl salad. I routinely have chicken salads as a meal. That's good stuff.

Oh, man, now I'm making myself hungry.

I just thought of a revolutionary idea! It will benifit fat and skinny people alike! Just think of it... deep-fried salads! Skinny people need the deep fried stuff, fat people need the salad. It's brilliant! If you would like to invest into my marvel idea, make the check out to: Mr. Mecham please. About 100 bucks will do. :p

I can't believe how many of you hate tomatoes and cucumbers. Especially tomatoes. My mother and sister hate them too, and I just don't understand it.

I tell you, just give me a bag of those little Denethor tomatoes when they're perfectly ripe and juicy and you bite into one and all the juice squirts out, and I'll be happy.

I like cucumber, as long as it's not squooshy. Gotta be nice, crunchy cucumber for me. And I'm okay with cooked tomatoes, but not raw ones. When I worked at Harvey's I used to have to prep all the tomatoes by hand every morning, and they smelled like pumpkin to me. I just can't deal with it.

What about weird combos? Like putting fries on your burgers (yum!) or peanut butter and carrots (also yum!)?

One of my favorites is the peanut butter cheeseburger. They serve them at a bar & grill in my hometown, and they fantastic. Basically it's a regular cheeseburger with peanut butter between the meat and the cheese. Try one sometime. Look, I even added it to the The Sandwich Project a few years ago.

That sounds weird, but I'd be willing to give it a try. When I worked at Harvey's we used to make onion ring poutine, with onion rings instead of fries. Now that's good. Also Italian poutine, with marinara sauce and mozzarella... mmmm. I'm hungry now.

A favorite of mine is portobello mushroom burgers, where you substitute the meat for a portobello cap but all the toppings are the same.

Also, have any of you ever tried pumpkin seeds? They're like sunflower seeds, but bigger. And harder to eat.

P.S. What's poutine?

Also, I put ketchup on my grilled cheese. People always give me weird looks when I do. Ironically, I don't like tomato soup.

Okay, sounds gross, but is really really good: Fries with gravy and cheese (traditionally mozzarella curds, but grated cheese is good too). Yummers. It originated in Quebec, and many fast-food places here carry it.

Oh, so THAT's the weird French-fry looking thing I saw in that Burger King in Niagara Falls.

I thought it was vinegar, or something.

I do enjoy gravy on my fries-from-France, but cheese curds, I don't know.

Next time I visit The Great White North, I'll try it.

Sorry, most Amerikaners have never heard of poutine. I had never heard of it until I found out that Matt Chapman is into it.

And to me it doesn't sound all that gross (I mean, cheese and fries together is pretty pedestrian, and gravy is just another savory flavor in the mix), but more than that it looks awful. Check out that picture on the Wikipedia page. Gah!

Anyway, when I unexpectedly show up on your doorstep at 2 a.m., MHG, you can take me out for poutine.

You're right, IJ, it does look gross all the time. Especially if you're like me and you put ketchup on it.

Sounds good. There's a 24-hour Burger King not too far away.

I'll give you $2 to kidnap him and I'll pay the bar tab for you to get him smashed.

I'll throw in an extra $10 if you video tape all of this.
