What do you think of this site?

I think the Wiki members should try to raise enough money ($250,000) to buy Pluto. Then we'll rename it something cool, like Wikia, or Homestar.

I think it's really great.

You have to click on "Buy Now" on the left side of the page to see the merchandise.

Then in the drop down menu next to the words "Show me," click "Only extraterrestrial properties" and then navigate to the last page of items for sale.

They designed it so we can't link to it... Crap. But on the product page, find the button that says "Next Page>>".

Do they actually "own" the property to sell?

Supposedly this guy claimed all the planets and moons of the planets back in the eighties, and he's been selling them ever since. The website is relatively new, though.

Apparently, his claim was recognized by the UN, but I don't know what the rest of the world thinks of it.

There's also the matter of the price.

$250,000...That might take awhile to raise.

You can check the FAQ on the site, it gives a pretty convincing legal argument.

It was because there was a loophole in some space treaty (Russia cannot own Mars, US can't own the moon, ect.) And he claimed it all, because it said that countries can't own planets, but never said anything about regular folks owning them.

You don't think Pluto's a cool name? It's named after the Greek god of death and the underworld. That's way cooler than being named after some website.

OK, fine. We'll rename Charon, then. Or let them both keep their names, but call it the "Homestar Runner Double Planet."

Yep. Planet Joey Day.

Ok, who would really want to shell out that money for a planet that you will never be able to go to? Honestly...

It's all bunk, of course.

Ahh, Wikipedia...it knows all. So it's pretty much a scam in order to gain money, just like many other things on the internet.

Even though it is bunk, I still think it's pretty cool, if for no other reason than this guy is getting selling something he can't actually provide. Sure, he'll give you a "Lunar Declaration of Independence," but it's just paper.

But I'd still buy Pluto if I were Bill Gates. ;)

So in the end, your giving some guy alot of money for something that could be yours be saying:

"Yup. Thats mine."

And at the same time some other guy who bought it from somone else can say the exact same thing.

Lets buy a planet that we could use. Like Mars, Mars is capible of sustaining life. Pluto is just the largest block of Ice in the galaxy.

Well, the thing with Mars is that you have to buy it one acre at a time. It would be way too expensive.

:p

Well, it might be real if you could actually visit the places they're supposedly selling. It's more of a gimmick than anything.

If you ask me, this guy is pretty smart. Nerds everywhere won't be able to resist.
