I'm surprised this topic hasn't already been started.

Who here likes LOTR? Have you read the books, seen the movies, researched the life of J.R.R. Tolkien? Share all your LOTR fanaticism on this thread.

I used to read the books when I was a kid. Then when I reached my 20's, I thought I outgrew them. But then in my mid-20's I started reading them again. I enjoyed them even more when I started finding all the biblical and mythological imagery in them. I love the Peter Jackson movies, too.

In addition to the LOTR, I've also read the Silmarillion and some of The Lost Tales.

For a great LOTR information site, CLICK HERE for THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF ARDA.

I was never a huge fan of the books...couldn't get through them...I have, however, watched all three movies nonstop. Twelve straight hours of Hobbity goodness. Started at three in the afternoon, ended at three A.M. the next morning. You can only imagine what that did to my mental state for the next day.

My friends, however, are LOTR fanatics, so I'm subjected to it almost constantly. I'm not complaining, though. I kinda like it. ^_^

I thought the movies were great, but it was kind of hard to read the books, though I did get through them.

I have a friend, however, who knows ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING there is to know about Lord of the Rings. She once spent a full weekend finding all the cases of incest in Elrond's extended family.

I'm not a LOTR fan, much to the dismay of my friends. I'm really not into the fantasy type movies.

I've seen all of the movies, of course, and I loved them. I've read the first two books, but I didn't feel up to tackling the third. I liked The Hobbit better than the LOTR books, anyway. Is it just a rumour that Peter Jackson is making a Hobbit movie?

They already made a few of those. They were completley unsuccessful because of bad advertising and the movies just sucked.

I haven't heard that one. It would be really cool if he did. I'd like to see Bard the Archer going head to head against Smaug-dor the Burninator.

I guess that means I'm the resident LOTR freak here. I've read all 3 books, and read them annually, along with the "Lost Tales", "Forgotten Tales", and the "Simarllion". I can point out all the errors and omissions in the movies and such. Now if you think that's geeky, you should've seen me in high-school.

I shudder to think.

Oh yes, Lord of the Rings custom t-shirt. I played the PnP game, drew the One ring on the side of my computer monitor, quoted the book, wrote insults to my teachers in Sandarin, oh my, it was marvelous.

LOTRXPRT: What do you think of THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF ARDA?

Also, I think you should get like a "One Ring" avatar, or maybe a pic of Samwise or something.

I tried to read the Silmarillion, but I couldn't get through it. It was too much like the Bible of Middle-Earth. Which is pretty much what it is.

Of Course It Is! That's exactly what Tolkien intended it to be.

Well, actually sort of a cross between the Bible and the Eddas of Norse mythology. But you get the idea.

Didymus - Yeah, I have the Encylopedia. The interactive version ,also.

The Simarillion is probably my favorite thing Tolkien wrote aside from his translations of the Green Knight.

Big, big fan. I've read all three books twice (and just got the One Volume edition), read The Hobbit, of course seen all the movies, own the Two Towers and Return of the King Extended Versions, have a One-A-Day calender, 7 posters, and various other things.

I tried to read The Simarilion but I just couldn't get through it.

I used to have a copy of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. I don't know what happened to it, though.

I don't like LOTR. Me and my friends have formed the LOTR Hater's Club. I am the treasure-er. We have $2. 'Nuff said.

I've seen all three movies. I've also read "The Hobbit", and attempted to read "Lord of the Rings" but only managed to get just short of halfway through (and that was with skipping most songs and such).
