Bottom line... I'd like to take one of the existing .swf files and cut a section from it. Can this be done at all? If so, is there free software I can use?

And if this is discussed somewhere else, just point me to the thread and spare me the smarmy remarks. I did a wiki search for "flash" and searched the forum for "flash editing". Nuthin' found after 15 minutes. My attention span is lany.

You probably need a flash decompiler and flash and you can probably do it. I've never tried it before, but I might.

The only wat to edit Flash is with Flash, and that's definitely not cheap. Porplemontage may be able to do this for you, just ask him.

The link I posted is for the free trial of flash and a free download of a flash decompiler (which you'll probably need)

Yeah, but the thing is that they're trials. Which means that they're limited versions.

I have a program called Imperator °FLA which lets you convert swf files to fla files which you can edit in Flash.

How lazy are you, No_loafing? It's about $77 US.

Yeah, but the thing is that they're trials. Which means that they're limited versions.

but he only needs them once I think

also, Fireworks could be your gif animator (trial)

so if you're only doing this once it will work.
