Wow, I could disagree with this for days.
Don't listen to any Screeching Weasel, do you? Or the Riverdales? Or the Vandals? Wow, I don't even know what to say.

Wow, are you slow. Where were you in 1988? Punk died long ago, and the bands you listed are Pop-Punk and/or Alternative power pop.

I just heard a cool song. "Amerika" by Rammstein. Don't let the title fool you into thinking it is a anti-America song. They actually praise America for giving them cool things, Coca-Cola, Mickey Mouse, Wonderbra. The song is in German, but the Chorus is in English.

Sorry, buddy, but you totally missed the point of the song.

What distracted you WonderBra J/K

The song talks about the globalization of American products and how they like them. that is the meaning of the song.

You're right, the song is about globalization, but while you may be an American and think that other cultures must be just thrilled about having their cultures subsumed by ours and being stripped of their identities, you would be wrong.

The last chorus of the song goes like this:

Quote:
We're all living in America,
Coca-Cola, sometimes war

Rammstein isn't exactly a "happy" band, and this is hardly a "happy" song. Catchy, yes. Happy, no. I've been Googling for 20 minutes and I haven't found a single review of the album which interprets "Amerika" as a pro-American song.

I like Coldplay because I play piano and it has a lot of piano in it. Especially Clocks and Amsterdam

You specifically said

I'm not sure how you could read that other than saying the song is "pro-American"

I said it before and I'll say it again, BAD RELIGION! They are punk starting in in '86-'87 and they are still making albums today.

You could argue that they are more pop-punk than "real punk". IMHO, the best example of what punk should be is the band X is: Sophisitcated Anarchy.

As always I will recommend The Weakerthans. Clicky for a free (legal!) download.

And here's a band I've just discovered - Tegan and Sara. I don't really know how to classify them, and I've only got one album so far, but I think they're super good. There are a few free downloads on their site, but they're unavailable right now due to "heavy traffic", but keep checking, because they're super great. I recommend "Monday Monday Monday" and "My Number".

They are very, very, very, good and very politically oriented. Just take a visit to their website and you'll see what I mean.
