Are there any photography enthusiasts (or professionals?) in the house?

I'd like to hear about your interests, your experiences, your methods, your favorite subjects and techniques, and so on. Do you have an account on deviantART or Flickr? What kind of equipment do you use? Do you find the smell of fixer strangely soothing?

As some of you may already have gathered, I graduated last year with a degree in art with a photography focus. Unfortunately all of my work thesis work was with film (color transparencies, actually), and I don't have the means to scan it at this time. I've taken a fairly extended hiatus from that craft since my thesis show, but as spring approaches I'm beginning to feel the bug again.

In the equipment department (though I know it's lame and counterproductive to fret about your equipment), I have two main cameras. The first is a Minolta SRT-201, c. 1973. It's a beautiful camera that I inherited from my late grandfather. I've got a standard lens and also a hulking telephoto that I almost never use. It's a modest camera, but I love it; it's so solid and feels so good in my hands, not to mention the sentimental value (though my grandpa barely used it). The only money I've put into it has been for a repair (faulty meter) and cleaning, and a replacement battery and lens cap.

The other is an Arax-reconditioned Kiev 88, a.k.a. the Poor Man's Hasselblad. This is the camera I used for my thesis, and it served me very well. It's a very nice bit of manufacturing, and though I won't be surprised when they do crop up, I've yet to encounter any of its signature quirks. If you're looking for a medium-format camera that you don't have to take out an insurance policy on, I highly recommend checking them out.

I have sundry other cameras (Polaroids in varying condition, etc.), but nothing particularly of note.

I really have to get back into the habit. At one point last year I had more film in my fridge than I did food. Now I'm down to a half-shelf of film, but ideally that'll all disappear once I start using it again.

So, tell me about your interests, your trials and triumphs, and show us what you've got. :)

I love taking pictures. Mostly landscapes. I hate portraits, especially planned ones. Most of them look so fake! I also like taking macro shots like flowers, bees, etc. However, I prefer performing arts over anything.

Actually my friend's mom is a radiculously good photographer. They were taking care of my theatre group director's cat Hedwig (pronounced Hed-vig) and she took a radiculously good b/w picture of him.
