Hey, I got that stand up bass.

The tuning is just like the electric bass or guitar: E - A - D - G.

That thing rocks. The finger picking is coming in handy.

In regards to pants, I remember seeing a study that Metallica listeners wear black pants 77% of the time, and tight pants only 46% of the time, so I would ask you to not continue the stereotype.

Black pants? Wow...I must've been in the other 23%...

Stand up bass? Wicked! I've always wanted to pluck on one of those! I used to play bass for a couple years. Not so much anymore, though.

I've been playing bass for about 4 years now. I've refuse to ever use a pick. I don't know why, I just feel the need to stay true to the roots and not use em.

My main musical influence is Geddy Lee from Rush.

I've ben playing for about 5 (?) years, and last year for our resitle we (me and some of my guitar friends) played Everybody to the Limit and the H*R theme, and I played the Trogdor song, which is actually rather difficult.

It just makes your fingers rock hard. Then you light em on fire!

There is nothing wrong with using a pick, of course. Jimi Hendrix used a pick, for Renaydo's sake. You bring individuality to your instrument no matter what you do.

I used a quarter for a couple of years, but I stopped when I figured out that my guitar couldn't handle the strain. That and the cost of strings was too great.

But I have found that one should never say "never", unless they are saying the sentence, "Never say never." So you may throw your pick away.

the real reason i stopped was that I was getting so frustrated looking for a pick all the time that I wanted to scream.

I used to use these picks called "Cymbolic" picks...they're made of actual drum cymbal brass...

They were supposed to make a nice ringing tone, and increase sustain...

All they did was cut up my strings like spaghetti.

I do that when I don't have a pick avalable, but i don't make it habit to use a quater becasue it makes it hard to strum up, at least with a pick you get a little bend to work with

I also make it a habit to keep a pick in my pocket at all times just in case some of the the upperclassmen have a guitar and I can impress them with me knowlage (gets me girlies too)

Good lead, Jumble.

And not to be argumentative, but I think playing guitar is (was) a good way to understand the ladies.

I say play on, brother, in front of a bunch of girls, and we'll see if you're dating within the week.

Sorry, but I hate guitar. I find being a keyboardist gets me just as much girls as I need to. I stick to my http://www.stoffelshome.de/alt_controller/korg_rk100_b.jpg]Korg Rk-100 Cause I refuse to spank a plank. Way to cliche.

Hate guitar? What? You mean you must hate playing guitar.
I don't get how you can hate it though

It's all fun until the blood gets on the guitar, the you have to stop playing and clean it, and bandage the fingers. That just takes too much time. I'll just use the pick please.

I'll take the pick any day. I have a really nice guitar and I don't want blood on it.

Geeze...I must be a freak.

When I play, part of my right index finger (the knuckle closest to the nail) slightly rubs against the strings...this is a pretty good technique when playing rhythm guitar, as it makes for a unique sound. I learned the technique from an article written by Kirk Hammet. Anywho, I always get that knuckle torn up from the strings...Even if I use a pick, I end up bleeding after a pretty intense session.

If you are a freak in an entire forum of freaks, does that make you normal?

I am currently getting tought by the local guitar god of Yonkers NY for $30 an hour (which isn't too bad) an I am learning tons of new stuff (old for most of you), I'll be back later with the tons of cool new things I learned.

Heck yeah, Coolguy. Hook us up with some professional guitar mumbo jumbo.

I think the phrase "Way to cliche" would be the great basis of a guitar driven rock song. Somebody write that sucker.

Way to cliche!
Way to cliche!
Hey! Hey-heyhey!
I say Way!
To!
Cliche!

Sounds like you really wanted that 1300th post, heheh

I hear there are tabs that can teach you to the same effect but you want to be able to see hear and feel the teaching and what the other person is trying to get at, also I can get an all access pass into the Yonkers underground if I stay with this teacher and I can keep in touch with all the kids in my school that are graduiating this year through these underground concerts.

I play a little guitar. I'm not very good. In music class in my school my grade leared to play guitar. My music teacher says I play it like a dulcimer (flat on my knee rather than up)

Again, be more productive. That post is spam. Spam is not good. Get it through your head. For your information, OT, not everyone on earth has to enjoy and detest the exact same things you do.

Does anyone know how to play Chop Suey! by System of a Down on a 6 string? Since it's played on a 12- string?

I always thought it was played with a regular 'ol 6-string, you learn something new every day.

Well the local god taught me much in one lesson for only $30 for an hour and one half.

I can now play the easy part to 'Nothing else matters' 'Wild thing' and '7 nation army' on command
