The thought of James singing Enter Sandman with Britney Spears, Lil' Kim and Lil' Jon just scares the poop out of me.
I don't think that would happen. I think Metallica would tell them producers, "We will fine by ourselves."

Oh, they'll say that, but I'm pretty sure that, if you don't have a pop star or some really old rock star, they don't let you have the halftime show.
Yeah, they want a wide appeal to all the audience. They think that they will alienate certain fans if they just have a metal/rock band playing.

Changing gears for a sec. I think Sree said something like this once:
Quote:
The Patriots winning again is like the Yankees winning the world series

No man, not even close. The Yankees have 26 total world championships, the Pats have 3. The Yankees dominated the past century, the Pats dominated three years.

I'm not sure where you get all this Pats hate from, but they're nothing like the Yankees.

People hate teams that win all the time. They get boring. It's like in NASCAR, there are a lot of fans that hate Jeff Gordon. They hate him because of how much he wins(Not so much anymore but back in the late 90's).

Speaking of which, there are 9 days til Daytona!! WOOOOO!!!!

I must admit that I'm a little confused about "Car of Tomorrow". I mean, it's going to be used in some of the first races of this season but not others. What gives?

Ah, the Pats and Yankees analogy.

Personally, I have no hate for the Pats. Frankly, they're more like my Detroit Pistons than the Yankees. That is, with the exception of Brady, there are absolutely no superstars on the team with the exception of Tom Brady (Michigan guy!), and yet they manage to cobble a team year in and year out that is a perpetual contender. All Bowls were won by a gut-wrenching three points, which means they always kept the Super Bowl exciting.

Yankees are dominant; Patriots are simply lucky.

And it really is all about the wins. If it were the Colts who won those three Super Bowls, then they would be facing comparisons to the Yankees, and Peyton Manning would be the most hated QB ever.

Lucky? Winning three times in four years is a bit more than luck.

I didn't mean that as a bad thing, ramrod. What I meant is that when the Yankees win, they're known for steamrolling over their opponents. When the Patroits win, they are always in very close games. Sure, there's more to it than that: Belichick is a genius with regards to clock management and play calling. (The trick 2-point conversion in the Chargers-Patriots playoff game this year still gives me the chills.) But you always get the sense the other team could've won too.

Methinks that's why, even after 3 Super Bowls, folks are still a bit hesitant to call the Patriots a dynasty.

I've never gotten the sense that the other team could have won.

Excepting the Indy game where it was obvious they were going to lose, every time they have put the ball in Brady's hands for a last minute game winning drive, you get the sense he's going to work his magic again. Belichick and Brady are the best one-two punch since Vince Lombardi and Bart Starr.

Besides, it's an incredible feat to win multiple championships the way the NFL is structured nowadays. Not to take anything away from Lombardi because he is by far the greatest coach of all time, but he was able to do it with the same group of guys each year. Nowadays, it's neigh impossible to keep the same players every year, making it harder to win championships consistently. The Patriots, Bellichick, Brady were able to do this. That is why I believe they are a legitimate dynasty, much like the Cowboys of the '90s.

Plus I truly believe Bellichick is the second greatest coach of all time (giving due props to Lombardi). Look at his accomplishments. 3 Super Bowls in 4 years and (if I'm not mistaken which I might be) the highest playoff winning percentage in history.

I can't believe the Chargers fired Marty Schottenheimer. Are they retarded? He leads them to the best record in the NFL, last season and they can him. I know he lost a lot of his coaching staff, but canning him?

Marty is horrible in the playoffs. The game against the Pats proved it. Pointless timeouts and challenges, and a conservative style when you're not in the position to do it, aka MARTYBALL!

They fired him because he was having issues with the Chargers' GM.

Very true. He made some really dumb calls in that game. But a lot of that blame can go on the actions of the players too...

Might as well revive this for the upcoming season.

Aussie Sav Rocca played his first game! And got a really bad cheapshot.

Watch.

Thoughts?

Yay, quoting a post from 6 months ago.
I was honestly relieved when we fired Marty. Being a San Diego resident, I'd like to see my teams win, and it's tough watching the teams never make it out of the first round. The Padres just suck, and need to produce offense in the postseason (come on, Boch, pinch hitting Bellhorn in the ALDS? Why was he even on the playoff roster?!), and can't only rely on CY and JaKKKKKe Peavy.
The Chargers had a great team under great leadership. Until they got to the Pats in the playoffs. Marty is horrible in the playoffs, like y'all said. And obviously, bad plays didn't help much either.
I think under Norv this season we'll go anywhere from 8-8 to 10-6. Our schedule is tough.

Anyone interested in joining a Fantasy Football team I have with some friends? (This is separate from tdw_magpie.) We just need a couple more people.

Let me know if you're interested. We're all pretty new at this, so if you've never played before don't worry about it.

FOOTBALL!!!

Yeah.. It's that time of year again. I'm "fantasy team'd" out. I'm in too many leagues right now. I have a good feeling about one of my leagues. It's a "keeper" league, where you get to keep 2 of your players from last year. One of the guys in the league has decided to keep Michael Vick. With the "protect" deadline passed, I think he's going to be down a good player. I might trade for him, though, just to get a higher draft pick.

Packers lost Thursday night, but oh well, it's preseason, so whatever.

My high school won 68-14 Friday night (with the backups from the Freshman team playing the entire second half).

College football starts next weekend. Here's hoping the Hilltoppers can keep up with Florida for the 1st 10 minutes. Yeah, I don't think it'll happen either. Not sure why they're going 1A. I still maintain that the 1AA game is so much better. They pick their champion the right way, by letting the players decide it on the field, instead of leaving it up to corporations and some useless formula. I said it last year, I'll say it again. BCS doesn't need the C.

I have a chance to see the Lions and Packers on Thanksgiving day, but with the wedding coming up, money is going to be tight. Also, since I'll be spending Christmas in Tennessee, I'd like to be able to spend Thanksgiving with my family.

NFC North will win the Super Bowl. It's the best division in the NFL. Period. Well, except for the Lions and Vikings. Football is meant to be played outside. If it's too cold for the "fans", I say "tough". Let me have their tickets.

I think it should be held at Soldier Field or Lambeau Field every year.

SEC gonna be beastly this year (same as every year). Look out NCAA.

Of course, they'll get overlooked again, too. They always do. (I know they usually get a team into a BCS bowl, but they should have a team in ALL of the BCS games).

Sweet mercy, I'm stuck in the middle of complete Clemson territory... being a fan of neither CU or USC, fall is a rather dull month for me.
