I can't believe the NFL Playoffs start on Sunday and we've been having a petty argument about Auburn.

College Football is better than the NFL ever dreamed of being. IMO. I don't think it was a petty argument at all. I just thought it was good 'ole football talk. :)

Yeah, I guess. Football talk can get heated easily.

It's that time of year, everyone! NFL Playoff picks!

Personally, I'm expecting an upset. Titans over the Chargers, 17-14.

Well the Seahawks ended Washington's season. Even though I wanted to see the Redskins go far in the playoffs, I was happy to see them rebound from all the bad things that happened to them this year.

Generally when people make picks, they pick for more than one game.
But yeah, I know the Chargers should win, but I am expecting them to lose. Unless Cromart goes on a rampage.

Even though I'm a Texans fan, I'd love nothing more than to see the Titans go far in the playoffs. I'd love to see an AFC South vs. AFC South game in the AFC Championship.

The team that scares me the most in the playoffs is Jacksonville. The way they play is just nasty. I think they are one of two teams that can beat the Pats.

They're also coming off a loss against Houston where they had 2 kickoff return touchdowns scored on them by one player. Momentum is something commonly overlooked, and also something the Jaguars don't have.

Doesn't seem to be affecting them against Pittsburgh, they are beating them by two scores early in the fourth.

EDIT: Pitt's leading by one now.

The game going on in Pittsburgh right now is pretty intense. The Steelers have scored three late TDs and are winning 29-28 with three minutes left. Wow.

EDIT: Yeah, BTG. It's true. I couldn't believe it either.

Garrard runs well, but what in god's name was that corner doing? He stood there waiting for him and let him run right past him.

If I'm Jacksonville, I run the clock down as much as possible an put the glorified PAT through the upright with as little time left as possible.

They got the kick, but probably scored too early. We shall see.

I would have gone for one more delay of game. It would have left 5 seconds left, boot it through and kick it off.

EDIT: Pitt fumbled, JAX wins.

What a rookie mistake. Roethlisberger's gotta throw that ball.

Kind of hard when a DE has his arms around you.

Well, that was quite the exciting game. I see Jacksonville as a threat to go to the Bowl, so I was a little surprised when I thought they could lose the game.

He was in the pocket for 5 seconds, people were in his face, he had plenty of time before that defensive end even touched him.

Yeah, but you need to find someone to throw to. You don't just chuck it up and pray.

That's exactly what the sidelines are for.

With 30 seconds left, and losing you never go for the sidelines.

It's better than taking a sack. You get sacked, you lose a down, you lose yards, and the clock keeps ticking. Incompletion, you just lose a down. Which would you prefer when nobody's open?

You are also forgetting that the DE came from Ben's blindside. Rothlesberger never saw him coming. He never had a chance to get rid of the ball. He had no choice but to take the sack.

Well, yeah. But also notice that he was about to run before he was hit. Or it looked like it, anyways.

How about you go play quarterback for Pittsburgh so we can end this dumb discussion. BTG's right, throwing for the sidelines that late in a crucial game is not the right thing, but neither is taking a sack. They're both bad, but if you choose one of them, you had better be sure you do it right. He didn't quite hold on to the ball well enough, and he fumbled it. Plus, it's not like he had much of a choice of what he was going to do. I'm sure that moment went by quick for him.

So, I've seen the MVP voting. What were they smoking?!?!?!?!?

Tom Brady isn't that valuable to his team. Put any of the top 10 QBs in the league on that team and they're going to go undefeated (or close to it).

Put him on the team that Favre started the season with and see what he'd do.

Moss makes Brady look good. Moss would make ME look better than most of the QBs in the league.

Also, can it be college football season again? Kentucky's b-ball team just isn't keeping us excited here in the Bluegrass.

It's not really a dumb discussion. Just analysis. Football talk. That's what this thread is for, right?

How about you tell us which is the better thing to do so we can end this poorly proclaimed "dumb discussion"?

If you're a QB in any pro league- this goes for NFL, Arena Football, IWFL- not even pro leagues- the NCAA, even- you need instinct. To instinctively make a decision. Quickly.

Yah' for real. Brady is good and all, but Moss is the real secret weapon for that teams passing game.

I did. I told you that neither of them were a good decision, but since there's nothing else you really can do, you had better choose one, and do it right.

And sorry for calling the discussion dumb. This IS the football thread, for god's sake. And I'm not even a big football fan, so sometimes conversations like these just kinda bug me for being so nitpicky. :p
And also, you're very right on the instinct part.
