He actually succeeded. I saw a tire iron and a chihuahua carcass in his intestines. It was gross.

The rest of the end bosses seem normal, though. You can hardly call Deedeedee freaky. Though I guess Dark Matter was kinda weird...

I suppose they needed something to balance out the fact that you're playing as a little pink balloon thing and most of the enemies are equally cuddly-looking. So basically, instead of giving each thing in the game a small amount of disturbing, they gave it all to one creepy end boss.
