Lemmings, Walt Disney and the Conservation of Energy Problem: As a fictionalized lemming (along with its fabricated herd) plummets from the edge of a precipitous cliff to its frozen, watery doom, how much of its potential energy at the top of the cliff is converted into heat, sound, and splattering at the surface of the frigid ocean? Hypothesis: If I heedlessly herd several dozen captive lemmings off of a towering crag to fall into a cold, austere body of water in which they will surely perish, then nearly all of their potential energy (created by gravitation) will be converted into kinetic energy (the falling motion of the helpless, diminutive mammals), which will be converted into heat due to friction against the air and water, as well as that wonderful, wonderful "sploosh" sound as the little critter leads his suicidal comrades into the deep waters of the Arctic Ocean, only to decompose or perhaps be devoured by a passing seal. That's all I have so far. Any suggestions? |

You can't say everything with just letters. IDK, my BFF Jill? We need more five dollar words up in here, not just abbreviations. I bet no one can tell what I'm saying right now, PMATW |

Well, someone else could get to 10,000, delete a few posts, and then get there again. So it's possible but unlikely that more people could get into that club, even if there aren't problems with the forum.
