Post subject:  Compy 386 Emulator

I'm in the process right now of creating a Compy 386 Emulator.

So far I am including: Right now it is still under development and is about 10% done. Whats in it so far?

Right now the following features work:
"strongbad_email.exe" (Displays a random email from emails #41-#118)
"edgarware.exe" (Almost done, still working on progress bar and Edgar picture)
"fightsong" (Fight song, plays using motherboard beeps)

Please reply with other features you want!

To make it authentic as possible, the whole program is being coded in BASIC, and will run in DOS to simulate :sb:'s Compy.

Heres some preview shots.

Snowthrower. You. Freaking. Rock.

Man, that's so cool! I just with that I had something to emulate an EXE file (since I have a mac and all). I look forward to seeing what people think about it! Hopefully I can use an old Microsoft compy I have. Good work!

I wonder if there's a way for you to include the game from "lures and jigs..." Also, see if you can put the pictures of the characters in there--you know, from big white face.

Example:
a> dacheese.exe
(picture)

Two words: Holy Crap!!! That freakin rocks. I want one, let me know when it's done. You make Bill Gates look like a child...or maybe not, but still, that rocks!!

I doubt that I could do the Lures and Jigs game unless I coded it C++, since BASIC cant read SWF files unless I did an animation, but that would take several days to code [which I would honestly not want to do]

Dacheese: I'll see if I can find a Bitmap to BASIC converter, then I'll probably do those.

Also, incase anyones wondering about hsramerdsxr.exe, I'll do my best to include this but I'm not sure about the turn out.

Update: medalliongoldplus.txt is all in. I'm also working on a way to possibly integrate Tandy into the program, and you can select which one you want to start up into (No the refresh lines will not be intact, but the green screen will :))

OMG! what about "print_out_million_dollar_bill.exe?

anyway, can you put up a beta test on the forum so we can see it before the full version?

You also need:

The pics and old Mac desktop from big white face
Peasant's quest
Extra-real dating sim
Startup screen
All the commands Strong Bad used and tried

Whoa! This is so awesome! I hope oyu'll have a way for us to try it out when you're all done. Tge only way to really include all the command,s though, is to search thru all the sbemails. I know, a pain, but it'll be worth it.

Oh, and find some way to pull up the "brontosauras-breakfast" picture!

Peasants Quest would be impossible to include inless I did a C++ version, but then it wouldnt replicate DOS, or run on old computers (which I want it to do)

Extra-Real Dating Sim I am working on.

Which email was the start-up screen from, I forgot.

I can't see how anyone can forget "credit card". YOu need to have internet installed, with the_coolest_stuff_ever.com as the homepage.

Coolest_Stuff_Ever was on the Tandy, and most likely I will not release Tandy with Compy for the beta run. That will be later on.

I'm going to try to make this project open-source so other people can look at the code etc.

"Invisibilty" has the start-up screen on it. The emulator's looking great by the way!

Sure, that shouldnt be hard at all. If anyone knows the notes to that "buh-duh-duh" from the start up, it would be a great help since I'd want to use system beeps to emulate that.

Snowthrower, are you using realBasic? If so, could you port a Mac version? I don't think it's hard to "export" it if it's a console program.

I'm writing it Qbasic. I believe you can run EXE's on older Macintoshes as long as you boot to them.

I'm working on the website for Compy386 right now. I only have the Tandy 400 one for when the Tandy Project will be developed.

Anybody know of any good hosting sites that dont require application, have cPanel, and have a decent amount of bandwidth?

The whole thing should be completed (including Tandy) sometime in the middle of 2005. Compy should be completed by the end of 2004 or Early 2005. I'm guessing the entire project will consist of about 4,000-10,000 lines of code.

Right now the Compys code is somewheres near 400 lines. Tandy's wont be starting atleast until Spring 2005 (estimated).

Strong Bad Emails [for Compy] will require about 1,150 lines of code (mostly due to the "forward to Homestar" feature {see topic})

Strong Bad Emails [for Tandy] will require about 500-800 lines of code.

Right now there is another person working with me which will make it easier for me and him.

So to make it quick: I'm supposing Compy will be done late 2004 to early 2005. Tandy should be done around mid-2005

Thats really awesome. Once again, you rock. Do you think you'll ever be able to do an emulator for Strongbad's new computer? (if he gets, one)

Oh and also: for when it displays email 118, I think you should make some sort of virusey type thing happen. I dont know if thats possible, but its just an idea.

I think I could help out by having an email watching spree. I'll write down all of the commands and crap that I can.

The beta version is out.

It is limited though! Only has one email in it (email #41). Has fightsong as well. Start up screen is in it too.

You'll have to go to http://www.compy386.tk to download it as my host does not allow direct linking.

Depends how complex it will be to. Once I know what kind of computer he gets, I will decide :)
