Are there any popular or semi-popular bands from your area?

Guided by Voices is somewhat popular.
:sigh: Hawthorne Heights is from my county.
Peter Frampton lives 45 minutes south of me
:sigh: Medford Drive is from my town. They play the worst possible music ever. Christian Emo.

Barenaked Ladies are from Toronto, I think. That's only a couple hours away from Ottawa.

None that I'm aware of now, but almost all the great Blues musicians came from this area. B. B. King is from a town less than half an hour from here. Oh, and even though he's not a musician, Morgan Freeman lives about half an our north of here, and owns a couple of restaurants up that way.

I can't really name any big-name bands that have originated in my stomping grounds. Billy Talent can almost trace their humble origins back to my neck of the woods. They originated in Ontario, but I can remember going to and see them before they were big, I can recall catching them as the opening band for Sum 41 at a local community hall. I even met them after the show, and got lead guitarist Ian D'Sa's autograph. Billy Talent II was also recorded in my area. Other than that... there's a band called Pride Tiger currently heading the indie scene where I live. They look like they might have some potential...

Other indie bands in my area include Said The Whale, Winston, Faber Drive, Hats Off, Gentlemen, Capade, Joykamp etc. You've probably never heard of those bands though...

Nobody that you'd know (unless you're into the suburban San Francisco indie-scene (which incidentally I'm not)), but Posterboy lives literally 5 doors...up (on a hill).

Mary Rose Artifact lives in the same area as me.

No one knows about them, though.

There are a couple bands from Fairfax County, VA, where I went to high school, but I can't really remember them. I know Dave Grohl (Nirvana drummer/Foo Fighters frontman) went to high school there (closer to Capt. Ido's school than mine).

Where I'm at now in Charlottesville: the big one's the Dave Matthews Band. They got started at a bar downtown here before moving out west. They still have roots here. "Dave" has an organic farm somewhere in the county, and their manager owns half the town now. He (the manager) is often seen walking around downtown, eating at one of his many posh dining establishments. He also bought out the $3 movie theater to make yet another stupid upscale playhouse or some nonsense. Where the heck am I supposed to watch movies for $3 now?! I don't even listen to DMB...

Blackstone Cherry is from a town near where I went to college. There are some decent bands from Lexington (about a 25 minute drive for me). The only ones I can think of right now, though, are the Johnson Brothers and Nine Pound Hammer. The former, you probably haven't heard of, the latter did a song for the Aqua Teen movie.

Nobody really well-known that I can think of, but my uncle's in a teeny little band called Tyrannosaurus Dracula. Think funky classic rock meets death metal.

Yeah, there's really not too much in PA.

James Buchanan was born in here, but he never started a band. If he did, it would be rockin'.

Spitalfield are from Dupage County, Illinois. Infact, my former scoutmaster coached one of the members in kiddie soccer.

Audition for a Murder. Afam.

widely considered the best band at my High School. Or at least, now they're all graduated, and the ones that haven't are 18 year old Sophomores who are earning their GED.

^Ditto + Next county over.

Singed, that's about it from Xenia. Not too bad, but I hear them a lot because my sister is friends with the lead singer's little sister. She gets free stuffs.

I'm in Athens, so we've got R.E.M. and the B-52's. Most of the R.E.M. guys have homes in or near town. I've met Michael Stipe and Mike Mills, and yeah, Stipe looks every bit as emaciated in real life as he does on TV. Nice fellow, though, does a lot for the community.

I think there's some country singer who's from around here, but I can't remember his name. ah well. it's kind of a middle-of-nowhere town so I'd be surprised if there are any others, aside from all the college bands nobody who's not from around here have even heard of (it's a college town so there's probably a lot of those)

after some googling though, I found out that holy crap, Chucky (as in, the evil stabby horror-movie doll) is from my hometown. or at least, the guy who played him is. awesome. :D
