I do like Poe, but I'm not sure about favorites. Maybe The Cask of Amontillado for a short story, but I'd have no clue on his poetry. Probably not The Raven, though, that poem unfortunately gets overdone.

"The Pit and the Pendulum" is my favorite, mostly because it marks an odd turning point in my own adolescent writing career. I'll leave it up to your imagination what that story can do to the mind of an inquisitive, budding author at 12.

This thread makes me want to dig up my Complete Works.

Just reading this forum gives me warm fuzzy thoughts about english class. That's when I read most of these stories, but I really did enjoy them. Unlike Heart of Darkness. Does anyone else here really like the version of the The Raven that was done by the Simpsons with James Earl Jones?

My favourite would have to be "The Telltale Heart", but I haven't read all his works.

Sorry to go a bit off topic, but has anyone read H.P. Lovecraft's works?
I've been searching for one of the stories called "The Willows" that my mom designated as the scariest book she's ever read (other than "Salem's Lot"). Has anyone seen it online or anywhere else? I want to read it!

That's The Telltale Heart. Yep, Poe loved his definite articles, it appears... Anyway, that's the only one of Poe's works I've read yet-well, I've heard The Raven, but have mostly forgotten it. Either way, I liked the both of them.

I love Tell-Tale Heart. This is my favorite part.

And still the men chatted pleasantly, and smiled. Was it possible they heard not? Almighty God! --no, no! They heard! --they suspected! --they knew! --they were making a mockery of my horror!-this I thought, and this I think. But anything was better than this agony! Anything was more tolerable than this derision! I could bear those hypocritical smiles no longer! I felt that I must scream or die! and now --again! --hark! louder! louder! louder! louder!
"Villains!" I shrieked, "dissemble no more! I admit the deed! --tear up the planks! here, here! --It is the beating of his hideous heart!"
