Post subject:  Harry Potter Theme Park!
Universal is opening a Harry Potter theme park!!!

Holy crap ,this is crazy! I can't wait to go into a real Hogwarts! Although my opinion is that a whole theme park is a bit much - especially considering the last book comes out this July and after July, there are only two movies left as well. After the movies are gone, where will the Harry Potter hype be?

Well, when was the last time we saw Mickey Mouse in theatres?

1995. I don't see Disneyland & DisneyWorld shutting down.

True, but for some reason, I don't think Harry Potter will have the staying power of the classic Disney characters.

And that's coming from a Harry Potter fan.

But Disneyworld reflects not just Mickey, but a host of characters and storylines, which Disney continues to create and put out every year. What would Disneyworld be like today if we didn't have influences and rides and things in there themed around Winnie the Pooh, The Lion King, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Toy Story, etc.? Harry Potter is just Harry Potter--it's one storyline, beautiful and captivating as it is, with only 7 installments in the main story, which ends this year (at least with the literature).

The idea of a themepark is awesome, yes, but it may be a shot in the foot for WB. Themeparks are massively expensive to build and run, especially when trying to keep the interest of the ever-changing consensus of America's consumers. What will a past storyline have to offer that's new and refreshing? My fear is that just to keep banking on Harry Potter and keep the gates for their amusement park open, they'll take whatever rights JKR signed over in contract and create sequel after sequel, spin-off after spin-off, until the genius of Harry Potter is seen as no better than the degraded, cheaply-dressed umpteen-million sequels in the Land Before Time series.

I resent that. The Harry Potter books are every bit as good as htey've always been, if not better. And they're certainly just as popular.

But I agree, it is a major waste of money. It's a COLOSSAL waste of money. Sure, it will be cool for Harry Potter nerds like me to walk through Hogsmeade, Hogwarts and the Forbidden Forest - but the novelty will wear off after the first couple of times (if not THE first time), and plus Harry Potter cannot go on forever... that is, while maintaining creative integrity. I sincerely hope WB does not produce any additional sequels or spin-offs...

Sounds pretty cool. About the money and all that, since Universal Studios is doing it, won't it just be a HUGE expansion to Universal Studios? Well, that would be the ONLY logical thing to do. Also, most people don't realize, theme parks make more from the government than just about anything.

Well, to be fair, there are two more movies after the last book is out - but still, I agree, I don't think the hype will stay alive that long.

But "timbre" is pronounced "tam-ber," whereas "timber" is pronounced as it's spelled. Reading the two aloud would make for quite a difference.

Yo, toast to the paint, brah.

This actually made me laugh a little. Honestly, it does seem like a way for the execs to milk more cash out of it. I can't see this thing lasting for that long if there aren't any god-awful remakes/spin-offs/crappy Land Before Time-esqe sequels.
