I know this is a pretty odd question, but I ask because I just got a Black Mages CD, and the famous track Dancing Mad is, at 12 minutes, the longest song I have. I sort of threw in the "shortest" part to make it more interesting.

Longest: A Modern Myth-30 seconds to Mars. (14:14) There is a 9 minute stretch of silence in that song. Shortest: Polyamorous-Breaking Benjamin. (2:57) Good song. Eh, I'll do my dad's music to for no reason. Long-Music and Electric Violin and Low Budget Orchestra-Jean-Luc Ponty (19:25) Short-I'm Black-Hair (0:27) |

Shortest: Crayons Could Melt On Us For All I Care, Relient K (10 Seconds) Relient K FTW. And actually, Crayons Can Melt On Us For All I Care is 12 seconds long. (though the music does stop after 10 seconds and the last 2 are silence). Just a fun fact.

Shortest: "Spines" by TMBG, 30 seconds. Longest: "Let's Not **** Ourselves" by Bright Eyes, 10:07. I have a couple longer ones, but they don't count 'cause they're actually two songs with a bunch of silence in between ("secret tracks"). At 9:35, "Konstantine" by Something Corporate comes in at a close second for longest, and TMBG's "Spine" (singular) is second-shortest at 33 seconds. But that's just the stuff I have in iTunes right now. I'm pretty sure I have a couple shorter tracks, like "Minimum Wage" (TMBG), on various CDs. I don't think any of the tracks from "Fingertips" should count, but they're definitely short. |

JTHomeslice wrote: Longest: "2112 Overture" by Rush 20 Minutes and 33 seconds
2112 Overture is only the first part, the entire song consists of six. Anyways, the longest song I know would probably be Karn Evil 9 (if you count it as one song) which lasts about 30 minutes. The shortest is "Must the show go on?" by Pink Floyd. I don't think it breaks one minute, but if it does it just barely makes it. |

Conveniently, you can sort your iTunes music by song time. Uprising-Captain Squeegee and the Soap Suds- 19:45 though I'm pretty sure a lot of that is silence You've Got A Ugly And Stupid Butt- Strong Bad- 0:32 The ladies in the town all know my name is only 2 seconds longer. |

I'd have to time them to make sure, but I'm thinking it's either Shine On You Crazy Diamond or Freebird (live version). If you count songs I don't technically "own" (concert bootlegs), it'd be Government Mule covering Freebird or Les Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade doing a Pink Floyd medley (about 25 minutes). Shortest song would be Korn's Low Rider |

"Konstantine" is the only song over six minutes that I can listen to without getting bored. Good lord, what a great song. anyway. Top three shortest songs: 1. "Horn Intro" - Modest Mouse (0:09) 2. "Crayons Can Melt On Us For All I Care" - Relient K / "Dig Your Grave" - Modest Mouse (0:12) 3. "Introduction" - Hot Hot Heat (0:17) Top three longest songs: 1. "I Would Die For You" - MercyMe (12:49) 2. "The Chicken Sangwich/The Heckler and the Kabbash" - Dane Cook (12:31) 3. "The Island: Come & See/The Landlord’s Daughter/You’ll Not Feel The Drowning" - The Decemberists (12:26) ...I also have "9027 KM" by OK Go, which is 34:46, but I don't know if that really counts as a song. |

Longest song with hidden track afterward I'm not counting (for obvious reasons, even though 34 minutes is a nice number) so after that I've got Deathbed by Relient K for however long that is, 11 or 12ish. As for my shortist song, I'm going with Pootermobile by Five Iron Frenzy, clocking in at 7 seconds. I'm not counting Receive Him (2 1/2 seconds) or Give Me Back My Sandwich (4 seconds) both also by FIF because those are just nonsense, or at least, more so than Pootermobile. |

Shortest: It's technically a tie between Who's Knocking On The Wall? and I Heard A Sound, both by TMBG and at 4 seconds each, but those are technically just two of the many parts of a bigger song. So I won't count those. ...Harvey the Wonder Hamster by Weird Al Yankovic, at 21 seconds... Longest: A Modern Myth by 30 Seconds to Mars, at 14:14. I don't particularly like this band, I just got their CD for Christmas. EDIT: Yeah, this song has 9 minutes of pure silence. The longest actual song I have is The Legend of Alan Guile Versus Peter Bones by Reel Big Fish. I think that's the longest title, too... no, that's There's A Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven't Thought of it Yet by Panic! At The Disco. Dang ol' new-scene bands with their Epic-Length Song Titles... |

Drugs and Kittens/I'll Drink To That by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones is the longest track at 38:44, but I'll Drink To That is technically a hidden track after 30 minutes of silence. Echoes by Pink Floyd is the longest actual song at 23:31. The shortest is probably Passive Manipulation by the White Stripes at 35 seconds, though Floyd's Stop is under one second shorter. There are a few miscellaneous tracks from the Spamalot soundtrack (tuning, overture, intermission) and a spoken intro to a Richard Cheese album, but they don't really count as songs. |
