I really need to apologize, because I let everyone down.

"Wait, how exactly...?"

I knew that Jello had passwords a week before The Depressing Purge. He told me, thinking I'd be cool with it. And instead of going to an admin who could do something about it, I tried to get people to change their passwords in a roundabout, backchannel way, only letting out just enough information to convince people to change their passwords without implicating Jello. But because it seemed like I didn't know where the security breach was coming from and the threat was just a theory, the problem couldn't get the attention it really needed and, well, you all see the result.

There are a couple problems here: 1) Why did he think I'd be cool with it? 2) Why didn't I give him a stronger indication of my disapproval? 3) Why did I try to cover for him? I can give plenty of lame excuses, but it boils down to being a coward. I was afraid of being seen as some kind of Old Man Lulzkiller over on the forum formerly known as HRWFWF and was getting in a habit of staying quiet about things that actually didn't sit right with me, or even playing along as if it was all some kind of joke.

Since then, I've been wondering what my responsibility is in this situation. I discussed whether I should resign with the other mods, and most said no. I think I should at least apologize though. So here I am, telling all of you that I really am sorry for not doing enough. If only I'd come out with it, the deletion most likely wouldn't have happened. Besides this, the only other thing I can think of to make some kind of amends is to back off from that environment that was seeming to encourage moral compromise. So I quit the former WFWF the day after it happened.

I'm glad to see that a little good is coming out of this situation, anyway. The forum has a somewhat fresher feel to it, and my impression is that there's more civility now that the confusion has died down. It looks like we'll end up better for all this. But that doesn't change the fact that I was wrong.

Unless he received a "yes" vote through PM, I can tell you that he only said "most" because not everyone voted.

IT is not guilty here. As I told him over there, unless he did it, he's not guilty. Also, he didn't try to hide. As soon as it happened, he let us know he was pretty sure who did it.

Unless this is all some BIG birthday prank on me on the part of Jello, the HRWFWF, Stu, GlobalCorp., and Seethroo, in which case, I'll have to remind you that my birthday isn't for 2 1/2 more months.

Inverse, I'm going to immediately apologize to you on behalf of the SIBHoDC. I'm sorry that you felt like we were going to hate you if you told someone about it. The fact is, a lot of our users hated the deletion. We enjoy laughs, but there are times like this when it goes too far. We wouldn't have seen you as "Old Man Lulzkiller". You should have known that we respect you far too much for that. We've always respected your sense of duty, and we wouldn't have been angry if you told someone about it.

We still love you over there, Inverse. We respect everything you ever did to try and bridge the all-too-annoying gap between users. However, I wish you hadn't thought of us as idiots who would throw someone out because they foiled something dangerous that someone was going to do. And having it be Jello, of all people...you know that a lot of us don't really agree with what he does sometimes. It was your fear of us outcasting you that led to your inaction, and I realize that it's probably our fault.

If you ever decide to return to the other forum, I am going to go ahead and say you would be welcomed back with open arms. We all still love and respect you. And, as long as I still have power over there, you will retain your Moderator status.

Please come back, at least someday, Inverse. We miss you.

And a sig that's too large as well. 100 pixels in height, and 500 in width is the maximum. Please fix it.

It's "that forum". We've been trying to decide on a name for a while now. It seems the top contender right now is Jesus Juice. All it really needs is Jello's approval, but he's denied our suggestions before.

Stage a coup. Can't admins kick out other admins? Cause that'd be awesome.

This confirms what I thought about "the cult".

I was right. Y'all didn't condone this.
I'm glad the rest of the WF didn't go all jihad on you guys.

I made you all cookies, but I eated them. Also, I'm out of monies, so how about a picture of Alan Iverson kicking someone in the crotch.

I want some more of it.

Yeah, technically I could, but like I told Deuce a while back, the website is hosted on his server, and as webmaster, he's got final control over it. It'd be like if you tried to ban Stu or JoeyDay.

Ok, we'll make a deal. You ban Jello, and I'll ban Joey. Deal?

Only if they've been given the correct permissions, and even then not if the admin-to-be-kicked has the "founder" flag set to Yes.

(been tinkering)

What would be the point of banning Joey? Would he even notice if you did?

True, true. It'd be like banning The Japanese Geek...

Though, being able to say that you banned the founder...pretty awesome.

I know all about the permissions and whatnot. Actually, as far as I know, "Founder"s can be kicked, but only by other Founders.

Inverse, I fully forgive you. We all make mistakes, and you're still a great mod, a great person, and a great friend. *hug*

Anyway, I'd like to apologize for being the center of some of the forum drama. At least, it sometimes felt that way, with Clan and sometimes Jello and everything. Then again, I have a guilty conscience, so that might contribute.

Sure. But you should expect me to say something to stop him from doing it. Anyway, the apology was because everyone deserves to know about a screw up like that in the leadership instead of it being covered up. But even though I appreciate it, all these hugbox responses are making it look like I posted it just to feel the love. No more positive responses plz.

I'll apologize for this now. Dunno if I'll go back because there were other reasons to leave that I just wasn't acting on before, but yeah, I shouldn't have done the same kind of ridiculous stereotyping that other people were doing.

From what I hear, the Clan stuff was imposed on you and you didn't have much of a choice in that. And that was almost a year and a half ago! Yep, sounds like overactive guilt.

Holy smokes, Jello is behind the great purge of '07?

Is there a thread that discusses this?
