 Post subject: Cool Words
PostPosted: Mon May 07, 2007 10:50 pm
There are lots of interesting words out there. I've always thought "Ethereal" had a nice ring to it. My friend told me about "Akimbo," which is when you put your hands on your hips and look stern. Stern is, coincidentally, another cool word.

quixotic
foolishly impractical especially in the pursuit of ideals; especially : marked by rash lofty romantic ideas or extravagantly chivalrous action (m-w.com)

I really want to use this word more often, but I keep forgetting what it means.

Ossify: to form into bone; to change from a soft animal substance into bone, as by the deposition of lime salts; to become inflexible in one's habits or opinions

Animosity: violent hatred leading to active opposition; active enmity; energetic dislike

Armsaye: The arm hole (or bottom hole?) of a shirt, I think.

ossify reminds me of a Ted leo song. he sort of uses it in a more metphorical sense about people being complacent and static. excellent word.

and quixotic has long been a favorite of mine.

here's two for didy-- pre- and post-lapsarian. before and after the Fall of mankind from the garden in providential history. i love these words. it's really the on'y efficient way to say before the fall.

Ive always liked Ergo for some reason. I always use it at the end of essays and half the teachers just circle and question mark it.

YES! That's where I got it! I interpreted it more as slowing down and doing nothing.

And it's not the time to ossify
it's not the end of wondering why.
