Anyone else here play the Dark Forces or Jedi Knight games?

Dark Forces was basically Lucas Arts attempt to create a First Person Shooter for the Star Wars universe. It introduced the character Kyle Katarn, a disillusioned mercenary working for the Alliance who later becomes a Jedi. In DF, he basically travels to different planets, kills lots of Bucket Heads, and discovers clues to an Imperial plan that promises to to wipe out the Alliance for good.

I started playing Dark Forces years and years ago. I used to love running around shooting Bucket Heads and making them cry. I hated Dianogas, though. *JIBBLY*

But then, the sequel Jedi Knight came out. Kyle seeks the people who murdered his father, and discovers it was done by a secret coven of Dark Jedi. In tracking them, he discovers his true destiny as a Jedi Knight. Like before, he travels around killing Bucket Heads, but now he has a cool Light Saber and some Force Powers to aid him in his quest.

I loved the way they had live-action cut scenes. But mostly, I loved it when the Bucket Heads would say, "Drop Your Weapon!" and I would use the Force to make them drop theirs instead. Good times, good times.

I've played all the Jedi games, including Mysteries of the Sith, JK2: Outcast, and Jedi Academy.

Anyway, I recently discovered that a group of designers is creating a Dark Forces mod for Jedi Academy. Basically, they're trying to port all the missions from the original DF so you can play it with updated graphics, sound and gameplay. They've even posted the first 3 levels so you can play them!

The missions and objectives are essentially the same. The game maps had to be changed a bit to allow for better conversion of the 3D environment. Also, some of the original Secret Areas appear to be missing. There's no Automatic Aim Correction or Map (useful features in DF and DF2JK, but abandoned with JK2O).

Also, if you don't have JA, but have JK2O, there's one level available for JK2O.

Check it out here: http://darkforces.jediknight.net/

Anyway, TWUT about the original DF or any of the Jedi Knight games that you've played. Or about the DF Mod if you play it.

I picked Dark Forces because it's the only one I ever played. (Okay, that's a lie, I played DF2 a couple times, but only briefly.)

I've played all of them, except for the mod. I remember getting one of those LucasArts game packages that had a bunch of Star Wars games in it. I was like, 6 or 7 at the time. I found all of them to be too hard or something, but I go with Mysteries because I remember playing the first level over and over again, trying to shoot down the TIE Bomber that always flew over the chasm... ah, good times.

I'm fairly fond of Jedi Academy. Having the option of being a hot twi'lek is pretty sweet.

Well, I have an old copy of Dark Forces for PS1. Although I saw it as somewhat enjoyable, I found myself a bit disappointed by it, since there were already so many other first person shooter games out there. But, I was always amused by the fact that Katarn was strong enough to punch a Stormtrooper to death in only a couple of whacks.

One cool thing I loved about JK2O is that you can pilot an ATST. The only problem was there was no FP perspective while in the ATST, which made it very hard to aim and maneuver at times. Still, nothing more fun than having an army of Bucket Heads charge you, only to be trampled into the ground like tiny bugs.

I also liked how you could work with other characters, like Lando and Luke.

I still have the original Dark Forces game disc and the box it came in. Those were good times - full of legendary Lucasarts games.

I've only played Jedi Outcast for teh Gamecube. That game was awesome. I especially loved going to the vs. mode and giving everybody ridiculous amounts of force powers and dukeing it out. My aim with a rocket launcher was epic...

I really do wish they'd hurry up and finish that Dark Forces JA mod! I'm so anxious to play the rest of the levels.

I LOVE the Dark Forces series. My friend and I played through the first one oh so many years ago and loved every moment of it. We did, however, have a personal vendetta against each and ever mouse droid in the game. At one point when we were playing in a relatively early level, we came into a plain simple room. There was a door out, and from experience we knew there were troopers beheind it. In the middle of the floor was one of these mouse droids, wheeling aroundin circles. We were amused by it as we foolishly were at the time, until it unleashed it's fiendish plot against us! It suddenly in a never before seen action changed paths and *opened* the door, from which the troopers streamed forth and gave us an unexpeted bad time. We dealt with them, but not in out prefered manner, and needless to say were slightly shaken by the sudden onslaught.
After a moment, once the surprise subsided, our jitters turned to rage. The bot had to pay. Away went the rifle, out came the heavy duty plasma launcher. We tore the room apart (not a large task, small room) and found the newly named tattletale droid wheeling in circles behind a desk. We bellowed in fury against it, mashed the charged fire button, and not even a battery was left

After this instance, any tattletale droid we came across was dealt in either a swiftly powerful or prolongedly cruel manner, for example to be used as target practice for the mines or the railgun, or to be force pushed around the level until we came across a cliff, then proudly demonstrated Newton's Law of Gravitation.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I love Jedi Knights as well, but I never got the chance to finish it, bummer. Multiplayer on Gamecube's great, though. I've had my evil moments in that *mwahaha*
