Beaums here.
As some of you may know, I am quite involved in dance. Breakdancing and hip-hop mostly. (I dabble in street jazz every once and again, but I'm not a big fan of it.) For nearly four years now I've been going strong, taking lessons at the local Dancin' Stars studio, and practicing on my own. Dancing is something of a passion for me now, as it allows my creative juices to flow and my physical abilities to progress. When I'm on the dance floor I excercise both body and mind, letting my expression run wild.
But you know how it goes.
Back in grade 7, a couple of elementary school friends and I became quite involved in a breakdancing class. As classes went on, we eventually formed a group for the studio's year-end recital. Our teacher choreographed a magnificent piece and it quickly became a crowd favorite. When the next year of dance was upon us, our director suggested we enter a breakdancing piece for competition. We jumped at the idea, and began practicing a routine to a song called "
We Are Electric" by the
Flying Steps. Competition season came, and we began to take the scene by storm, winning golds and first places where ever we could. (There aren't many straight-breakdancing groups in circuit competitions you see, so many judges were simply taken by surprise.) At one fateful competition, a judge misinterpreted "Electric" as "Elktrik". We had a good laugh, and the name stuck. From then on, we were "
Elktrik Crew".
We still compete today. Our group has changed, but we have embodied the same principals that make us unique. Out of the nine members we have today, three of us are original, (me being one of those three). Elktrik Crew has taken us to various locations around British Columbia,
Portland,
Las Vegas, and we might even be performing in a
Disneyland parade this year. But I'm getting at something here, just stick with me.
I've been talking about my breakdancing career a lot lately, but I've never shown you guys anything. I have never proven myself worthy! So today you're in luck. During this year's Spring Break, our group was asked to participate in the
5-6-7-8 Dance Competition up in
Victoria. We accepted, and took the city by storm. And as luck would have it, one of our loyal fans decided to record our performance. So, click the link below to see Elktrik Crew rockin' the house.

(There's a few goof-ups in the routine, mostly because we were missing a member, but you get the idea. Oh and by the way, the little guy in our group is only 10! He was 9 when he joined!)
So I hope you enjoy. That performance won us a first place in our category, and we even went on to win the OVERALL HIGHSCORE in the competition. Which basically means the judges gave us, well, the highest score.
Thanks,
Beaums
P.S. Guess which one I am.
