Hey Everyone!,

I'm thinking of getting a website. Thought about askin' Bub's but he's on his ow-i-think-i-broke-my-ankle-knee? holiday.
Could anyone tell me whether I will get ripped off with these plans? (EDIT: aka. with extra fees?)

GoDaddy Domain : $2.21 1ST YEAR $9.SOMETHING 2ND YEAR
GoDaddy Hosting : Linux Economy. $3.59 A MONTH FOR 12 MONTHS = $43.05

= $45.26.

This sounds too good to be true when its about 60 bucks (usd) in australia for a domain name.

Help!??! :poop:

I'm also thinking about the FellowSites program. Go There NOW!

Also..if anyone wants to argue that the H*R Wiki isn't a consultancy service I will obligingly remove this post.

Jack

Fellowsites FTW!

I would have a serious think before choosing GoDaddy for hosting. They're my registrar and are good enough at that, but I definitely wouldn't trust them with my hosting.

What host you choose depends a whole lot on your needs.

To Jello B:
    5 GB SPACE
    250GB DATA TRANSFER
    6 FTP USERS
    PHP 4 or 5 CODING
    LINUX (RED HAT) SERVER

Hope this helps.

To InterruptorJones :

Whats wrong with their hosting? Out of curiosity.
For 200MB and 8GB transfer here in Australia, its about $200 bucks a year.
Would you recommend any other providers such as Globat?

Regards,

Jack

I recommend Hostony. I've had them for a few years now, and haven't had any problems. Great customer service.

I can't say for certain that there's anything wrong with their hosting. I haven't tried it. I just think the company is a bit flaky and wouldn't trust them to how my web site.

Unless you're running something mission-critical, that doesn't seem like a very good deal to me. Fellowsites will give you 500MB/10GB for $1.50/mo.

I recently paid for two years of DreamHost hosting and I have about 200GB of disk space and 2TB bandwidth. The cost was $190, but with a promo code (these are readily available on the web, or I can send you one) I got it for about half that, which works out to less than $4/mo.

I haven't actually started using DreamHost, but I've heard mostly good things about it.

I also have a plan with 1&1 that gives me 10GB of space and 300GB transfer for about $4/mo., though I see they're running a $3/mo. promo right now. I've used 1&1 for more than three years with no problems, but they don't have quite the rep that DreamHost does. I'm switching to DreamHost, though, just because they have some extra features that I'll enjoy.

If the hosting options in Australia suck, there's no reason not to go with an overseas company as long as it has a good rep.

A reviewing website that I can't remember said this for GoDaddy hosting:
Quote:
You can also host more than one site with the economy plan - the only downside is that it "forwards" your different urls to a subpage of your main account using a frame. If you want to avoid the frame you need to sign up for a Deluxe plan, which gets you a true redirect.

This means I would have to go deluxe to have multiple websites. (with frames)

Does FellowSites allow for multiple websites?

Jack

Ok

What I meant was that for some reason on GoDaddy Economy Plan, it only allowed for 1 fully framed website.

Eg. http://www.jackandnotjill.com

1 website was jacks electrical business
it had frames with a title bar, navigation bar and a info area in the middle.

the 2nd website also used frames, but because GoDaddy is ........ intellectually challenged, jills website had jacks websites frames, but her own info.

Regards,

D.O.F
