I was listening to the Best Show on WFMU today and thought this might make a nice thread here. Sometimes, music gods drop albums that make people sick to their stomachs. Sometimes, even bumbling fools contribute excellent ideas to society. Discuss the worst work/product/etc. by somone you consider the best and also incredible creations by those who are otherwise terrible. Some suggestions: bands, scientists, movies, actors, products/companies, philosophy, art, authors, basically everything.

And let's not spend too much time arguing about whether or not the "best" people are really the best.
My first Worst of the Best: Apple's 20th Anniversary Mac. Hilariously expensive, bulky, over-techy, and low-preformance, but it sure looked cool for its time.

Combat Rock by the Clash.

hands down the Worst album by one of the greatest bands of all time. allen ginsburg doing spoken word, funk fused with punk, and their only real U.S. hit singles somehow combined to make a terrible album.

oh, and another Worst of the Best, Here Come the ABCs by TMBG. terrible, boring album, yet...i still love the johns.

Star Wars Episode II sucked. Like crazy. All the fan boys say Episode I was terrible, but I say II was the worst, and I stand by that.

Bah, I don't care which Star Wars film has sappy love dialogue or George Lucas's son getting a role or something or Jar Jar opening his mouth...I just watch 'em anyways.

II wasn't all bad. We got ourselves Jango.

(One of the funniest things ever is that people speculate over what an adult Bob Fett looks like. Considering he's a clone and all...)

Mario Is Missing, the WORST game in the Mario series, arguably the BEST Nintendo franchsie.

Seriously, what were they thinking!?

Finally, someone who agrees with me.
II, I, VI, III, IV, V
Order from worst to best.
Bad thing is, II is the only one I have on DVD...

That doesn't mean it can't appeal to adults as well, Einoo. -_-

It wasn't made by Nintendo, they just let the company Radical Entertainment use their characters for whatever reason.

I did play it though, bought for the SNES a long time ago expecting a fun experience and being extremely disappointed. But at least they stole Super Mario World graphics for the SNES version. This PC version's Luigi is gonna give me nightmares.

I think i remeber reading an interview for their website or an FAQ or something, they said "I think it will be one of those albums where the adults don't really think much of it" and besides it was for CHILDREN

everyone jumping down my throat about TMBG... i can admit when a band i like makes a crappy album, and i love TMBG, all i'm saying is it is the worst thing they've done, aimed at children or not. "No!" is one of their most brilliant albums and it's a children-type album.

just out of curiosity (now that 2 people have slammed me for this--and i'm not an idiot, i get that it's a kid's album--) what do any tmbg superfans think is their worst work (and seriously, if you pull that "they've never done a bad thing ever" stuff, then don't bother. everybody has miscues.)

another worst of the best, "Mighty like a Rose" by Elvis Costello. i just really don't like that album.

Personally, I dislike TMBG's Hearing Aid. They're freakin' awesome, but that song is just... no.

As for the best of the worst... well, I hate the show Kappa Mikey with every fiber of my being. However, I love the episode "Mikey Likes It (Garbage)". It actually has some pretty funny quotes.

"I'm sorry I broke your microwave. I put tin foil in it because I thought it would start shooting lasers at people."

Woah. We got the two opposite ends of the poles here! :P

Best of the Worst: I normally really dislike the band Jimmy Eat World, but there are two songs of theirs I really love: A Praise Chorus and In The Middle. In the Middle is a surprisingly cheerful song coming out of a really emo band, and it reminds me of one of earlier stories. A Praise Chorus wins for the simple purpose that it refereces TMBG. The "Praise Chorus" of the title is a celebration of 8 seminal rock songs, and "Don't Lets Start" is one of them. The full text of the Chorus is:

Quote:
Crimson and clover,
Over and over...

Our house in the middle of our street,
Why did we ever meet?
It's part of my rock 'n' roll fantasy!
Don't don't don't let's start,
Why did we ever part?
Kick start my rock 'n' roll heart!

Worst of the best: If you've read the Zelda post, you know that Link to the Past is my least favorite Zelda game. I've detailed my reasons there, but I just never found the fun in this game that a lot of people seem to.

The last episode of Seinfeld. What was Larry David thinking? Ugh.

I was happy they at least were original. It didn't suck nearly as bad as most 'flashback episodes', and they didn't have someone go into labor or die or anything. They probably had to go through a lot of work to find the old actors, too. But really, you could say it wasn't nearly as almost all of their normal episodes.

Interesting...you rank III higher than VI. Not sure what I think about that...I don't really know how I'd rank them, but i'ma big fan of good ol' Episode 4.

I don't think Hearing Aid is THAT terrible. Now, You'll Miss Me...ugh. It's a shame with that one, too, 'cause the lyrics are pretty good, but it sounds terrible. (Then again, you also know my thoughts on Flood in general. Shut up, everyone, I DO like it. But...so overrated. -_-)

Though actually, I'd say my least favorite TMBG album is either No! or Apollo 18. They were good, of course, but not all that many really, REALLY excellent songs. Particularly on No!, but the three best songs on that album (Four Of Two, Bed Bed Bed, and my favorite track on the album, Sleepwalkers) are all really, really good. Apollo 18 was more consistent, and had some really great tracks as well, but they weren't AS good, and the entire album...I dunno. A lot of the songs are kinda forgettable, and Fingertips, while definitely a brilliant concept, really doesn't work as well in practice, considering the fact that the Fingertips tracks take up about half the album and are pretty much NEVER dispersed evenly. (Works well on an iPod, though.)

And for the record, I thought Here Come The ABCs! was pretty good. I C U = freakin' brilliant. I mean, a completely coherent song made entirely of letters that sound like words. You can't deny that that's awesome. Also, Letter/Not A Letter always amuses the crap out of me. "THAT'S A WETTER!"

Also, another Worst Of The Best: Jewel by theSTART. Never cared for it all that much.

You can. It's on his website for free.

And a lot of his songs sound like that. You should check the rest of them out.

Most Star Wars fans agree Episode I and II were horrible compared to the others.

Hmm...I wouldn't have ranked III as being better than IV, but that's cool.

For me, it's I, II, III, IV, VI, and the best one is V, The Empire Strikes Back.

Meh. I dont even focus on the movies that much anymore. They're over, and they barely tell a small protion of the overall story. II was my least favorite, and I like all the others equally.
