Remember how I made a thread on how to keep cool? Well, It's kind of upside down, it's things to do to keep warm, I just blow on my hands and run to keep a sweat. But if there are any other tactics, c'mon and share 'em, I really don't have that much knowledge on how to avoid freezing to death.

Wear clothes, but not cloves.
Also, eating a warm lunch will sometimes help. Unless it's too early for lunch. Then eating a warm breakfast will. But after lunch, you could try eating nothing ever again. Food contains existence, and coldness exists.

I have a shoulder cozy that keeps me pretty warm, and even has pockets for keeping snacks in. Actually using your laptop on your lap is another good way to warm up, provided you don't overheat or anything.

Actually, that's not entirely true. heat exists, but coldness is simply th absent of heat, making it intangible and unexisting

And having a laptop on your lap can be harmful, especially to men. I wouldn't make it a habit. It's not a problem every once in a while, but sitting with a laptop on your lap everyday can cause permanet damage to a male's reproductive organs. Plus, that radiation can't be good for anyone.

Buy a nice down-coat, North Face, preferably.

That's all I got.

Move to Australia. We'd be happy to share some of our heat with you.

Ahh, my summer home in Australia. :p

My suggestion is indoor heating. But it's 40 degrees F here, so it's too warm to need to cool.

Geez, what is up with that? It's like 20-something here. And it gets to single digits overnight! Phew! I think our respective states played a trick on us, unless New England is warmer in general than I've been lead to think.

Do some exercise.
Go for a run or go to the gym.
It will warm you up very quickly.

Make a bonfire. Cover yourself in blankets.
Those are my useless suggestions. I don't get cold, so I don't have much experience in this situation.

For those of you who want to take a more extreme approach, you can try moving to Alabama or Florida.

It will get slightly chilly at times during winter in Alabama, but that's not much to speak of. The jet stream forms a sort of force field around that state that makes snow all but impossible. A few years ago, there was a huge blizzard headed straight for us. It seemed as though I would get the snow I had wished for all my childhood. Guess what happened. It stopped half-way through Mississippi, took a sharp turn to Tennessee in the North, moved over a bit, and went back South for Georgia. It completely by-passed Alabama even though it was in its direct path. Needless to say, hoping for snow after that "Warm Wedge" incident seemed futile.

On another hopelessly warm note, Florida seems to be filled with people that not only want to escape the cold, but to have it declared contriband by state law. These people turn the heater on when it falls below 70 degrees Fahrenheit. One such incident was when I made known my discomfort due to the high temperature in the classroom at the community college and requested that the AC be turned on. The teacher said she had the heater on. Naturally, I thought she was insane. So I start sweating profusely. Just five minutes later, it was enough moisture to water a plant with, saline aside. Finally, noticing my torment, the teacher says "You really are hot, aren't you?"
This was me.-->Image

The snowbirds can have Florida for all I care. I just want to escape to some place where either being warm is optional or keeping warm is at times required for comfort and/or survival. But if you can't stand the cold, consider the [s]Retirement State[/s] Sunshine State for future residency.

Ahh, but that's not true either. "Heat" and "cold" are just subjective identifiers. We call it "hot," but there's really no such thing. It's relative to what's measuring it. What's hot to me may be very cold to a creature that lives in the tropics, or even another human. Temperature is just the amount of energy in an object, so it's not hot OR cold. An objective measurment is Kelvin or Celsius. No matter where you are in the universe, 373.1339 K is the same thing.

(No, I didn't copy and paste this from some website. Give me some credit every once in a while. Sheesh.)

But heat is energy, right? Cold is not energy. So, I think Ju is pretty much correct.

Heat sucks.

What are ways to get cold?

Eating ice cubes. I've been doing it a lot during this summer.

i prefer eating them after I've drank my mountain dew. eating them straight out of the freezer is too hard for me. also, i don't like eating them while they're still shaped like Australia.

If I'm really cold, I get completely under my covers and breathe really heavily until the air is warm. Then I try to make a small opening that I can breathe out of. You know, so I don't suffocate.
It doesn't usually work that well. I end up throwing the covers off gasping for air.

For me, I wear my jacket all the times. That or my hoodie. Luckily, since I used to snowboard, the cold doesn't bother me all too much.

Wear layers of clothing. Best way to stay warm, short of staying in where the heater is.

I agree that hot and cold are relative, but heat is existent - it's a form of energy (as Schmelen said). Temperature is not the amount of energy in an object - heat is (in terms of kinetic energy). Temperature is the measure of heat (Since some objects need more ehat to get warmer than others do)

Not that any of this really matters anyway :p

(It doesn't.)

I usually just deal with the cold. I'm used to it. Usually, the problem is that I'm too warm.

Oh yeah, I hear you. I'm always sweltering up here on the seventh floor, because all the floors below have their heaters on, in addition to the ones we have here, and all the rising heat just makes for a steam bath.
