"nothing else!" is awesome! I love it.

I remember animation school. -.- Do you have any idea how long it takes to make a cartoon or how straining it is for 2 people to get 6 min. done in a week? Over & over again? I don't blame them at ALL for taking a month off. I'd be burnt out too, even if flash is way easier than cell. Becides, once vacation's over, you have to fight the slack you've quickly become accustomed to.

By the way, if the flash file won't load, just go to the homestar wiki home, hit "highschool" mentioned in recent updates, scroll down to "view flash file for highschool," & it will load full screen.

Most stuff they do is WAY shorter then that.

Besides, I think by now they've been doing it so long the process speeds itself up alot. I don't know about flash and stuff, but if they have the stuff done up on the computer, and they have some basic animations already done, then wouldn't that speed it up too?

Of course it would. It still is time consuming though. Recording the music, sound files... etc. etc. SBEmails often require new backgrounds or newly drawn items... but for the most part it is much quicker for them now I'm sure. However, remember that DVD special that shows them making a SBEmail (the 100th I think)... it still took them a long long time to make it.

Well that was because they decided to restart half way through, right?

Or, that's wht I thought I heard somewhere anyways.

How can you love it..? It's just them rubbing it in our faces that they didn't do a Decemberween/New Years cartoon, and didn't bother telling us why they were gone. They are genuinely being disrespectful now.

I love how you label EVERYTHING you don't like as disrespectful.. You don't know how funny that sounds. Seriously, it cracks me up.

Why are they being disrespectful? It is because they decided that they have lives away from the internet and didn't tell us? While it would have been great to have known something, technically, they are under no obligation to EVER post anything on the site.

Perhaps they're about to grace us with another awesome thing. Just because they didn't release 5 toons on the same day doesn't mean they didn't make them.

People really need to chill....

They're just saying the email was the only update they did to the site, or, at least, that's how I read it.

All I can say is, I'm just glad that TBC seem to be OK - considering how many people came up with "they must be sick/dead" theories, you'd imagine there'd be a little more relief around, wouldn't you?
whether you believe or not that the sbemail is...justified...really is second to the fact there's obviously nothing serious going on.

I dunno - I think it was a little mean, since they're obviously well aware of the fact their fans waiting patiently for over a month for some big update. If not, why would they have the need to add the 'nothing else!' in the first place? Also consider they still haven't added their weekly fanstuff, quote of the week, and sketchbook things like they normally do. I'm not going to get worked up over it myself, but I don't see how some of you could blame anybody who feels a little insulted over that message.

i never said it wasn't mean - i just said i was glad they seemed to be back on track, as it were. i think it might be for the best to draw a vail over the whole affair, personally.
i begrudge no one their opinions - good or bad - about this.
natch i would have liked something more than just an email, but there you are - we ain't getting anything, and at least things can move forward.

Well it's very nice to see they are alive but geez...this break was very, anti-climatic. While the new cartoon had plenty of new animation that seemed to be the only plus side to it. I'll be honest by saying i'm dissapointed and if you don't like it you can shove it.

It's nice to see the only little note that the TBC added was "nothing else!". Way to wait until Jan 9th to let us know.

If, indeed, they were on holiday (or 'vacation' as you Americans call it), then they may have just returned, so they're just given us a quick toon to let us know they're back/escaped from an isolated island in Korea.

We may be quite surprised if we give them the time to make some new things!

StrongRad, you're reading it through the eyes of a rabid fanboy. Why on earth would they tell you they didn't make any other updates? Apparently they don't need to inform us of their absence, but it is to say "haha we didn't do anything"?

You keep using the same crappy "free stuff" argument over and over again even after people have rubbished it. We are the people that got them where they are, and they should show us some level of respect. If you want to do nothing but lick their behinds, fine. But I'm going to be over here having an opinion.

You always have to say that I complain about everything I "don't like" or "don't agree with" without paying any attention to what's really going on. Quite frankly, I'm sick of it, and the next time you do it I'm ignoring you completely.

You say rabid fanboy, I say sensible human. Taking a break doesn't equal disrespect, no matter how you slice it. The sense of entitlement some people have really sickens me. While, yes, the fans (especially those who bought something), are responsible for their fame, and just falling suddenly silent is kinda uncalled for, they ARE human and cannot/should not be expected to not get tired form time to time.
So they didn't release a Decemberween toon.
I was a little let down by that.

Like me, I'm sure they had other things to do. They do have friends and families, you know.
I would argue that the "We got them to where they are and they owe us free toons" people are more fanboyish, if anything..

I don't think the break itself necessarily equals disrespect either, as much as it would have been nice to have a message. But I think that 'nothing else!' message combined with that previously unannounced vacation was a little rude and offputting. Personally, I would have been perfectly satisfied with just the new SBemail, since I prefer to gauge how well they come back from this vacation on the next several updates rather than this first one afterwards, but I don't see how that additional message was necessary at all given the circumstances.

Like I said before, I'm not going to get worked up over it myself, but I just don't see how anyone can get annoyed at those who are very offended by it, and I think it does get to the point here sometimes where people are afraid to knock TBC or H*R for perfectly legitimate reasons, because of the group that seems think they're beyond criticism.

They're going to put something else up soon, trust me. Think of it as Nothing Else... yet...

I think the way I read it was "new strong bad e-mail, nothing else" as a way of just showing they weren't away making The Ultamate Half-Hour H Star R Toon or something.

And I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, because the updates themselves were getting really stupid and random.

Examine cases in point:
*Strongbad making an entire e-mail about the noise he makes when he gets up from his chair. Stupid, stupid e-mail.
*Bedtime Story: Instead of telling a Strongbad bedtime story and making it like teen girl squad, we get completely random nonsense. His "lullabye" is screaming about Bran Muffins (nothing involving bran muffins until then). They give The Cheat milk with gummi bears in it, a random snack, and calling it Suudsu, a completely random word. NOTHING IN THE E-MAIL IS FUNNY UNLESS RANDOM THINGS MAKE YOU LAUGH. Oh, and did I mention putting The Cheat to sleep with Roach Freakin Bombs? I was almost surprised when they didn't kill him by accident.


Anyway, I could list more and more, but the entire site was relying on random humor, and there was very little I could show to a non-H*R fan that they would actually GET. It sucked. Also, within the e-mails, they were making SB into quite the wuss.

This new e-mail is actually funny and WITTY, like the old Strong Bad e-mails. In fact, it's plain brilliant. And other than the time periods Strong Bad chooses (which have a good reason to be random), nothing about the e-mail is "Let's stick pipe cleaners in our eye sockets" random or stupid. If they were using the break to learn how to be creative again, I welcome it.

Maybe Nothing Else is mean, but so what. We're big boys, we (hopefully) had something else going on in our lives (again, freakin HOPEFULLY) than Strong bad e-mails and Homsars and Poopsmiths. We had a one month dry spell. The site has now returned and will probably be updating normally. And HstarR has never really been kissy kissy with their fans anyway, they've just been worried about doing their thing, writing their cartoons, and so on.

Oh, btw, Doonesbury and Calvin and Hobbes, may I mention, have taken one YEAR hiatus's before? Family Guy was also cancelled for a few years. Futurama is GONE, but there's talk of bringing it back too. Look, it could've have been worse.

I know the "It's free, don't complain about it, it could be worse, look we're ALIVE!" argument is getting pretty old, but I think the recent events have been used as an excuse to malign the TBC unfairly for not giving us toys. As someone going through things much, much more tragic lately, I feel that this judgement is unfair. Wait until the TBC are arrested for cannibalism or possesion of WMDs, THEN we can talk about how mean they are.

OK, I'm starting to ramble. Time to gog get breakfest (hopes someone will actually read this long post) (hopes moreso he didn't screw any of his argument up)

Well, I just got to checking the site a short while ago, and the main page wasn't updated at all. It was still in the state it was since dec. 8. I didn't know there was an update until I checked the wiki. But since it seems they posted a "nothing else" message, I'll throw in my 2 cents about that. I think it was extremely appropriate for them to do that. They obviously know that people have been freaking out for the past month and were expecting something out of the ordinary. That simply is a message letting everyone know EVERYTHING IS BACK TO NORMAL!! They were just on vacation, or for whatever reason taking a break from the site.

I can't believe how much people are complaining about this. This is supposed to be a fansite, a place for FANS to discuss H*R. Yet, after enjoying everything that TBC puts on the site, they complain about trivial things such as "they didn't leave a note saying what's going on." Come on, they're taking a break like normal human beings, and people look for something stupid to whine about. And now, in response to this idiocy, TBC posted a somewhat sarcastic response. Look, we finally got our update, and instead of enjoying it, now people have nothing better to do but whine that that little message is "mean" or "disrespectful". As I see it, if you're offended by that, then it's your well deserved punishment for wining for the past month. Anyway, if all you're gonna do is complain about little things like that, then I suggest you just stop visiting the site and leave it to people who will appreciate TBC's work. TBC have done numerous things to develop a good relationship with their fans. They obviously care about us. If you feel TBC is showing disrespect towards you, then I don't think H*R is for you.

We might all be misinterpereting the "nothing else" anyway. Usually the buttons at the top-right of the page scroll through SEVERAL messages. Maybe they could simply be saying that there's only one at the moment. Whatever the situation is, it's nothing to freak out over, just take what the TBC give. If you appreciate it, great. If you don't, then just shut up and leave the site for those who do. I realize not everything they do is great. Just because they're not perfect doesn't give anyone license to complain about stupid things like "nothing else."

Posting one email and nothing else in a month, and calling attention to the "nothing else," is what most of us would refer to as a "joke."

I completely agree. I chuckled when I saw the "nothing else" button. I think it was meant as a joke, not a dig.

I agree with StrongRad and souled_out. They took a break. A little long, and a bit frusterating, sure, but they deserve it. And about the "Nothing Else!" message. When I saw there was an email I was just glad that things were back to normal. I wasn't offended that they said here was nothing else. They were just telling us that there was nothing else, because everyody was expecting something huge. Give 'em a break.

To be honest, I think a lot of people just like to get annoyed at people who get annoyed at things. Because they get to be annoyed and not be bitched at, or so they think.



I'm really sick of this attitude. Your right, this is a place for FANS to discuss Homestarrunner, good and bad. Just praising TBC and H*R the whole time is stupid. TBC make great cartoons but they messed up badly this time and offended quite a few people. They've been pretty lax lately and I could kind of see it coming, which is why I was so angry.

They SHOULD have left a note saying they were gone, or why they were gone afterwards, and nobody's provided a reason why not. It's not just us getting stuff for free; our patronage and spreading the word if putting money in their pockets and making them more famous. You should look at it from the opposite point of view, for once.This is a two way relationship, and one which TBC have disrespected simply because they can, and because people like StrongRad fight to the death for their right to disrespect us how they please.

In work, you don't just "Take a break" for a few weeks and not tell anyone. You don't spend a few nights in a hotel without telling your family anything. It's not the action, but the lack of information, which is ultimately offensive.

Rosalie, I'd like you to create a flash cartoon where under 10 words are all the text you get. Now I'd like you to run it for six years and always, in one of those ten word spaces, tell people that you'll be gone, visiting family. And if you ever actually FORGET to write one of those notices, make sure you don't use the ten word medium to the best you can do and say "Nothing else!" TBC were not trying to annoy us with that, it's their way of saying "sorry for new updates." You'd have prefered that they had say that? Okay, but that has no humor the way "Nothing Else!" does.

Also, this is your last warning, which may even be too late: STOP SWEARING. READ OVER YOUR POSTS. If you don't like our rules, then leave.
