Today, I went to mellowmushroom.com, and saw that they had a new intro, featuring a male car spouting off terrible pickup lines to another female car. How long has this been here? Do TBC actually have plans to expand this site? |

I'm sure they will, but it's not their site so it depends..... I don't see any other updates other than the intro |

I think it's owned by TBC and made by TBC... but someone else gets the credit or maybe someone else owns the company. |

It belongs to the Mellow Mushroom pizza company. TBC don't have anything to do with the restaurants, they were just hired to do the web site a long time ago. Personally I don't think this new intro was even done by TBC. Those cars aren't their style. |

So they wasted money on that website? |

Well, they don't have really "ONE" style. The Limozeen show isn't their style. They keep changing styles really. I mean, strongbad has changed a lot since they started homestar runner. |

Man, I came to this topic just to say that. Beat me too it. I was thinking the talk bubbles. It's so un-TBC. I doubt they'd take up a side project now. They're living comfortably enough offa the website. |

I have to say that those radio commercials that Matt did are kind of interesting... 1.wav (2.8 MB) 2.wav (2.8 MB) 3.wav (2.8 MB) full.wav (5.6 MB) And it's funny how the voices sounds familiar. |

Tha main character sounds like a cross between Strong Bad and Bubs, his friend sound like Coach Z, the girl sounds like Marzipan with a southern accent, and the Wizard sounds like the KOT. |

The intro to those radio commercials is definitely Matt using the Marshie voice (w/ a hint of The Announcer). The first time I heard it on one of the Atlanta stations, I caught that. But the pick-up lines themselves weren't done by TBC, which is probably why they're replaced w/ bubbles in the Flash intro. |

Duct Tape Patrol wrote: my brother just brought home a pizza from a place called mellow mushroom...that's weird.. Well, that's because Mellow Mushroom had TBC make that site as a type of advertisement for their pizza place.

Well I guess those radio commercials are proof enough that they're still working for Mellow Mushroom, but seriously, do they really need to? In the Wired interview, they said they get an average of 300 orders per day. Let's say the average order is $20, a little more than an average shirt. Most companies make a 10% profit from an average shirt, so... HOLY CRAP! That's $109,500 per year for each of them! Geez, Jackie and Missy don't even have to work. Makes you kind of wonder if you should be shelling out money to pay for their great-great-great-grandchildren's college education. |

Didn't they already hint at the fact that they were making six figures a year? I thought that was mentioned somewhere else earlier. |

I suspect $110K is a bit on the low side. 300 orders != 300 individual items. People are probably buying batches of stuff at once, if most people I've known are any indication. They only order twice a year or so, but get loads of stuff. I'll be doing this on my birthday, actually. I'm also on an Atari 2600 mailing list w/ Paul Slocum, who was going to make the H*R RPG. He put it on the shelf because he thought his Atari synth software would make him more money. I tried to convince him that he was mistaken because every hardcore H*R collector and every hardcore Atari collector (there is some overlap, but they're not 100% identical) would buy it. He would have made $5 off each, and it probably would have sold in the 5 figure range. Not to mention, the H*R collectors would buy systems to play the game and buy his other work as well (Marble Craze rules, BTW). I don't begrudge TBC their phenomenal success. They give us oodles of wonderful free entertainment w/o resorting to adware and other crap, their merch is high-quality and extremely cool, and they haven't gotten the huge ego about it. |

You must factor in the costs of maintaining the site. Paying the companies that make all this cool stuff they are selling... etc. etc. I'm sure they make somewhere around the $100,000 a year range so they do not have to work... and that is terrific. And I couldn't TELL that was Matt on the radio commercials. I can only assume it was. To me, it looks like someone else re-did the intro and used Matt's original sound clip but stuck in a bunch of bubbles over the car's head because they didn't have a good voice actor or something. |

Well, they kinda are working since they have to make those flash cartoons and listen to fans whine and make suggestions... at least they responded to an e-mail I sent. It would be a cool job, though!
