Although it probably isn't for kids as much as for teens, I think that if HR went to Cartoon Network, it would wind up as a Cartoon Cartoon. Now before you get at me like "Well Strong Bad says crap all the time," well, Dexter said "crap" once, and in a recent episode of Billy and Mandy, Billy yells, "OH CRAP! The clowns are still here!" |

Himan you are correct. Every once in a while I'm stuck watching that, and Billy says "Crud". |

In the first line of the legal stuff thing it says: Quote: HomestarRunner.com is committed to providing a fun, safe and secure website for people of
all ages. Do they mean like the littlest tiniest babies!!??!! |

babies can't read or understand the site. They just mean generally that they make the site okay for eight year olds who are typing random stuff into google and clicking on this site. |

um..i think SN's post was a jab at humor, no an actual...question..there... I don't think they try to make it suitable. I mean, i guess they have to hold back a little bit, but i don't think they have a specific age group in mind. |

Good because I'm 8. (Turning 9 this month.) But I think they can make acceptions on kids shows. I heard the d-word on a kids show once. |

I believe it is intended for a wide variety of viewers. I know some older people who love Homestar and the gang. My oldest brother, senior in college, loves the site and all the toons. I don't know too many "kids" that like it. I mostly hear people 12 to 25 talking about Homestar where I live. |

Maybe in other episodes, but I'm talking about the episode "Attack of the Clowns." In the scene where Billy keeps jumping out windows, listen closely at his line when he comes in the door for the first time. You can clearly hear, "OH CRAP! THE CLOWNS ARE STILL HERE!" |

I would agree with you, but... I don't believe that they've ever said "Freakin'" on a Cartoon Network cartoon. On Adult Swim, probably. But H*R is too young for AS. It's good right where it is. On the net. |

When they post that disclaimer, "Fun, safe and secure," they mean that it's "fun" because it's a site created around toons and games. They mean it's "safe," as in, no personal information they collect from you (i.e. with cookies and tracking software) will be used in any way that would be questionalbe or sell it. And Finally, by "secure," they're talking about the fact that your kids and others can visit it without anyone invading their privacy. That's just talking about your privacy rights online really. TBC have said before that they're surprised how young their audience can get... I think it's somewhat funny, the site started off geared more towards smaller children and has evolved into an older demographic, however it is now more popular than it used to be with younger kids. However, I'm 20 and I find so many things funny about H*R... it has it's own kind of "mojo," so to speak. It has all these call-backs to things from when I was a kid, because that's also when TBC were kids. That blue/white football player statue at the end of one of their toons, they said it was a cologne bottle, but I already knew it the moment I saw it. Why? Because I have it on my desk right here! I've had it since the late 80's! It's just things like that, plus the witty humor, that make it so entertaining. But it's still very safe, I'd say, for kids 8 and up. I watched Ren and Stimpy when I was about 6 or 7, which is a crude show, and it didn't mess me up. ... all that much. |

Yes, you said clowns in that first post so I knew it was that episode. Billy said Holy Crud! They're still here!! (Jumps out a window.) |

It's a show(err...website) for everyone, its safe for kids but also appeals to teens and adults. SpongeBob Squarepants has more crude humor than H*R. Crap isn't a bad word, I don't think any child is going to be mentally shattered by H*R. |

I don't know, I mean Shonen Jumps is for children, or at least a lot of kids read it(probably 6 and up) and they say crap a lot, and one issue, with Yu-Gi-Oh, there were 2 people making out in the backround in the park,(like, seriously, MAKING out, like they'd never stop.) and my little cousin didn't realise it, even when I pointed it out, he just said eww, kissing, and then kept reading like nothing happened. But he never realizes the word crap. |

my 9 yr old sister watches it and thinks its down-right hilarious. we were both brought up not to say bad words, but my sister knows them all. once i saw 3 five-yr olds cussing at eachother with worse words than i have heard on homestar. ya, my mom most likely would not have us watch it but, we didn't quite tell her. i love having my own computer |

LUCKY! I have my own computer, but my stupid brother unplugged it and took the keyboard away, and when I tell him to put it back, he doesn't listen. |

You have THAT little control, over your little brother. My little brother is like an eight-year-old zombie, because he never listens to the mom he always gets in trouble and severly punished so he decided "Why not become a zombie?" I think someone was talking to him while he was half-awake, half-asleep. |

I must say, I think it is for everyone. If I could, I would vote: Not at all! Cause it's always 'Holy Crap!'. But, unforteanutely, it won't let me vote. Can anyone help? |

Erm...the poll's probably over now. You can't vote anymore. I'd say no, not at all. Because little kids don't/can't really get the jokes. They just like the 'funny voices' or stuff, but I'm sure most of the jokes go over their head. My 11 year old sister like it, she understands most of the jokes, but sometimes she'll ask me "What's that supposed to mean?" or something like that. I usually don't explain to her because it takes all the funnyness out of it. So, yeah. Not really a kids site. |

I think it's like simmilar to The Simpsons, or something in terms of target audiance. The humor is fairly simmilar in terms of maturity. |

Darnit, you beat me to it! I was going to use that quote as soon as I saw this thread!
No, I don't see H*R as being for kids. It's not very vulgar like most adult cartoons, but I still consider it an adult cartoon. Every now and then, it can be just borderline edgy. (The worst was in sb_email 22's Easter egg when Strong Bad said "Screw all y'all!") It's certainly not intended for children. I know some parents who won't let their children watch Ed, Edd n' Eddy. |

I see it as more inbetween, for teens, though adults with a sense of humor could enjoy it too. I've let my 6 year old brothers watch "Bug In Mouth Disease" before. They only think it's funny when Homestar takes Pom Pom and the King of Town's ice cream, and when he gets hit with the skillet and the remote. They can't understand the rest of it. I've also let them watch the SBEmail "funny". They just wanna see Strong Bad dump ketchup all over his computer and bounce around on his head. |

I agree, I started watchign SImpsons when I was four. Iu didn't get the jokes i wasn't supposed to get. I've noticed while watching re-runs how many of the jokes I didn't get a few years ago, and I think HR is like that (though HR is more appropriate than SImpsons, I'd say) |

In a way, I suppose Homestar Runner is a gentler version of The Simpsons. My cousins once came over and wanted to play games on my computer, but I don't have any actual games on here, but I knew of two websites with games: Homestar Runner and South Park Studios. Even though H*R isn't really intended for 6 or 7 year olds, however old they were back then, it was certainly the lesser of two evils next to SP. So, I let them play some of the games. My cousin stumbled upon the quiz game, and of course she didn't know the answers, plus she had only begun reading on a first grade level. At the end, Strong Bad told her she was the stupidest guy ever, or the stupidest girl ever, and she was a bit... bothered by him. She said to me "I don't like him..." So... yeah. I'd say it's best for ages 12 and up. I'll probably still like it even when I'm old and have gray hair. My mom and grandma always liked Animaniacs, so it's possible. |

With all the 80's/90's pop culture references and subtle sex references it's definately aimed at a older audience. But that, by no means, means it's innapropriate for kids. Much like Fairly Oddparents (as someone previously pointed out) in those senses. Definately good for all ages (except maybe like...80+..I dunno) |
