I know I was thinking the selfsame thought years ago, and now I have it again. What's with the 640x480 business? I'm aware of the importance of that resolution, but...2010...I use 1024x768 (introduced 1990); I can't imagine how tiny the site looks for you widescreen high resolution people.

The sort of solution is to view the .swfs, which is all right, except it forces you out of the site and to do silly things you shouldn't have to to see a feature big enough to be seen. And of course as soon as you take the .swf out of it's box, you can see the borders and elements you aren't supposed to see.

I know there's a couple "widescreen" 'toons/e-mails. This alone is an acknowledgement that the animation is smaller than the expected screen area (wouldn't fit in 640x480). Does flash scale? Will we ever see some work in other resolutions? Anything bigger than 1024x768 would screw me - so yes, there is the compatibility issue, but how many people are sticking with 640x480?

Senor havin' a little trouble,

In most browsers you can just enlarge the cartoon by pressing control/command and "+". It works a lot better than viewing the .swf.

Your numbers are a little off.
The wiki wrote:
Most cartoons on homestarrunner.com stick with an 11:8 aspect ratio, slightly wider than the 4:3 aspect ratio of standard definition television. (The Brothers Chaps have explicitly stated that they just went with the Flash default of 550×400 pixels.)

If you're looking for a really convenient way to make the toons take up the full screen, and you use Firefox, then you should check out the Greasemonkey script maintained by Phlip. Besides the fullscreen option, there's a seek bar, wiki links, subtitles, and more.

Oh. That's a strange default...well looks like there are some options out there.
