I'd say for sure not never. Even if they ended the body of work, they'd still do some kind of finale.

Each Thursday I keep an eye out for updated weeklies. They're like the popping sound that precedes the flame spurt in the Fire Swamp.

Sad Strong "I can hear Strong Bad in the next room yelling at his computer. Apparently he's still answering emails, but still isn't being uploaded to the homestarrunner website. I hope he gets it fixed soon. I'm supposed to be in the next one."

I think that's just a fan. He's playing the part well, but I notice him using quite a lot of words as references to the site, like somebody who tries his best to convince everybody else that he's a H*R-expert. Note how somebody who actually made a site doesn't have to show it off to convince anybody. (Even though Marvel comics still do it, but TBC are not Marvel.)

All the updates recently have been sales on the store. It's been that way since November. I'm sure we'll see something sometime...

I'd be shocked if it were any time before March.

But that'd be as near as a six-month hiatus, and that's pretty terrible.

I really do wonder what the prolonged sabbatical will bring for the Homestar Runner series.

I think the current baby break is also doubling as a brain break to get the creative juices flowing again. I believe this year marks the 10th Anniversary of the Homestar Runner website, so I would think that TBC are planning some sort of toon or event to mark the occasion.

It should also put into perspective just how long they have been doing this. A decade is a long time for any creative endeavor to stay edgy and fresh.

I'm sure sometime soon we will see some sort of sign determining the future of the site. They can't leave us hanging for too long.

Well, they should at least release a fourth volume of Everything Else.

You make a good point, the Simpsons managed about 10 good seasons, and a few good episodes since.

However, TBC are only coping with a few minutes of toon at a time, and I'm sure people are still emailing...

I'm guessing that they're working on SBC4AP season 2, so they'll be back after they are done with at least the preliminary work.

That's possible, but I don't see them making a second season.

Never, hopefully. They've been going downhill for years.

maybe one last cartoon to wrap things up, but i think the time has come to call it quits.

One other thing:

On ProfTorCoolguy's (Strong Bad) twitter feed he mentioned that he's gotten no good emails recently. I imagine after 200+ emails it's hard to find a good idea that you haven't done before...what hasn't been done before really?

Why, are you being forced to watch H*R? Are you glued to your computer or something? If you don't like it, just stop watching it! The logic of some people seems to be: "If I don't like X, nobody else shall be allowed to enjoy it either."

It's just I hate to see something I used to like struggle on way beyond the time it needed to stop. It's why Seinfeld was cancelled at the peak of its popularity - to stop it from getting stale and a shadow of its former self. No one is forcing me to watch it, and I don't really anymore. Not saying no one should watch it but I think that the creators either need to figure out how to make the site good again, or just call it a day.

It does pain me to say this, I spent years on this forum, but really, do you honestly still enjoy it as much as you used to?

I'm not exactly the right person for this kind of question because I only discovered the site about two year ago and I generally lose and regain interest in everything periodically, independent of its quality.
But yes, regarding these points, I still enjoy Homestar very much, and there are recent (or, well, "recent") sbemails and 'toons I like or dislike nor more or less than the older ones. It's the same as with every series: There are episodes one likes and episodes one hates in just about every season. Some fans love the stuff I hate, and vice versa, so each part of content finds its fans, more or less.

There is a good chance that it may not come back...

Lately there have been big gaps on top of big gaps. I have stopped even checking regally to see if there are update to the site... I check this wiki once every couple weeks.

Granted he needed to take time off for his new baby. But still the risk he is taking is loosing his fan base. A lot of them wont come back after finding little updates, And further down the line the store will dry up too...

Nice avatar, Jitka. That makes three MSPA fans on this forum.

I still get disappointed when I see there hasn't been an update each Monday. However, I think this disappointment has reached its peak and is now getting lessened each week. It's kind of depressing to think about.

While I don't disagree with your overall points, it should be noted that Seinfeld was a rare exception to the rule. The vast majority of shows continue way past their expiration date (and some people even lump Seinfeld in that group) until they're just not profitable anymore.

Anybody remember what the longest break was in the history of H*R? I think this one is nearing the same length or close to surpassing it, at this point.

Remember in july 2006 when "Welcome Back" was posted? Here's a little remark from it's wiki page:

"This toon followed the birth of Mike Chapman's daughter, Very, Very Little Girl, in the late spring/early summer of 2006, during which time the site went nearly seven weeks (48 days) without a major update, the longest hiatus on record. There were various minor updates during this period, but no toons."

They could be working on something big, planning a new game, making some cartoons & sbemails ahead of time to make regular weekly posts for the rest of the year, taking care of a screaming pooping baby, perhaps the crap economy & new baby forced them to get part-time office jobs, maybe they bought all their computers at the same time & they all broke at the same time & they had to save up & buy new ones (happened to us).

Remember that making these cartoons IS their income, & while flash animation doesn't take as lond as cell animation (one person making cells for a month adds up to 5 minutes of animation), it still takes a long time. I've been watching this series almost since it came out & I'm used to these long periods of time without updates. If the Chaps were going to stop making HR, they would actually put out a flash cartoon where all the characters tell us goodbye.

If you're going to be a troll about it, just go find a new series. & yes, it's still way way better than anything on TV.

This is what I don't want to happen to Homestar. I'm not trolling, I'm hoping to preserve the integrity of the site.

And Monkeytender, there used to be a lot more but they all left when the off-topic boards were locked. Lots of us are at the MSPA forums now. Sibhod is dead.

Meh. I'm not convinced the content's as consistently funny as it used to be in the old days, but recent stuff has still been easily entertaining enough that I think it's worth still having. Of course, all of this is largely a matter of personal taste.

My take: With two kids and a slumping economy, they can no longer afford to live on HSR-related merchandising alone. Thus explains the excessive merchandise pimping and lack of an update. I think Mike, or both brothers are busy doing other things to earn money, be it standard employment or freelance work. I think HSR, as we know it, is no more and will never be. But I don't think it's dead.

I suspect something really bad has happened like a tragedy or something and that's why we haven't seen anything of any substance for so long. I find it hard to believe it's financial trouble given that H*R is the single most popular toon on the web and has been for a long time. If they were really in such terrible financial difficulties, we'd start seeing Google ads on the site.

TBC really needs to get a blog.
