The new toon was either:

A. A way of saying, "Hey guys, we're back!"
or B. Them making an excuse for still being on break.

I personally, after reading the FeedBurner page, speciffically "Click here to watch the REBOOT," I thought they were back. On the other hand, it could be Trogday 2010 all over again.

I think this marks their return. That cartoon was WAY too much work to have been done as filler, from the opinion of this animator personally. If this isn't them coming back, it still took a TON of work to get that cartoon done. Unless they already had it done a long time ago and just posted it now.

I hope they're back, but I don't hold out a whole lot of hope for a return. They've been gone too long. It seems as if they're having money trouble since they've been pushing the store so much. They may have had to take outside jobs in order to maintain the site and thus don't have the time to do H*R full time anymore.

Recipe for One (1) Big Spike in Store Sales:

1: Take all previously unreleased cartoons and add to DVD.

2: Record brief commentaries (if you can be bothered)

3: Add 3D intros that people watch once or twice all the way through

4: Make DVD available for purchase on the store.

Et voila! One very big spike in store sales!

Genuinely, I believe this has been a false dawn. I would be extremely happy to eat my words though :)

I can't imagine it's money problems. They just did the huge game for Wii and PC! No, I suspect it's something else. Probably family engagements that are more important than doing cartoons for the internet. I'd wager dollars to donuts that's what it is. If it was money, you don't make more by STOPPING making cartoons, and certainly not for four months straight.

But if they're working on outside projects that pay more than H*R.com, that could very well take them away from doing internet cartoons. I'm hoping it's something like that and that nothing horrible has happened to the family. Though hoping for financial problems is kinda iffy, too.

I don't think they're back yet, but I also don't think it's financial trouble either. Otherwise they wouldn't have removed all the advertising off the site.

I'm pretty sure you're right but another way of looking at it is that TBC have looked at forums like this only to discover that the advertising was putting people off the store.
I doubt this is true, it's just an idea.

They had advertising at one point? How did I miss that?

Ki-lilling Machine I just have to say I love your avatar. And your username. Okay heck, your entire account is reeking Awesome.

I'm still of the opinion the Babies are keeping TBC busy: keep in mind six months isn't all that long when you've got to do this for over 20 years! Wait until the kiddies are old enough to stop waking them up at night, and maybe we'll get some action. ;)

I'm so sorry I shouldn't have said "action" but I can't think of another word for the life of me.

Well, there was no update yesterday, but then again just before the break they were really updating every other week or so.

I think at the least, they're back on a temporary, more restricted schedule.

Since the end 2002, the Chaps have updated with a toon once on Thursday and then again the following Monday (not counting the Halloween teasers), and that toon was Snowglobe. You can push the number to four if you count main pages and the ad for SBCG4AP.

In short, it's extremely rare these days for them to update with a toon on Thursday and then again on Monday. Consider too that this past Sunday was Easter, and so they probably spent it with their families. I would have been surprised if there had been something new on Monday.

I'm not sure if they'll update again for a while, but I'm almost sure they will be back. I'm not terribly worried. :)

I think they're back, just consider the break 6 months of maternity leave, which is a pretty standard amount.

WAHOO!

I don't think that there can be any doubt that TBC are officialy back, it even says copyright 2010 at the bottom of the menu now!

Well, it looks like they're hinting that they're going to make pop culture references of the 90s instead of the 80s. Sweet, I will totally catch some references without having to be told what they are, for sure. (& if I don't, I will cry).

Post subject:  Re: Are TBC for-really back?

:-( Well ok.... I was wrong, it's been 2 weeks since the new main menu and there's been no sign of any other updates darn.
Well there could be an update tomorrow, personaly I would like a hremail where homestar awnsers one of the angry "JUST MAKE NEW TOON!" emails that I can be pretty sure he's been bombarded with for a while, well whatever it is I'll be one of the first to know since I live in england where midnight in atlanta is about 7am for us.

Oh, and also is it just me or has the forum been pretty quiet for about 10 days, I know that I hav'nt posted.

Yeah, it's been dirt slow. I would imagine that's because of the serious lack of updates to H*R.com for the past several months. There was a jump in posting when everyone thought they were back finally, but now that they aren't (fingers crossed for tomorrow!) people have found other things to do I guess.

It's one of the really difficult parts of maintaining a weekly updated cartoon site. Once you miss a few weeks because of family emergencies and such, people give up on you. :-(

I think they're still on a break, but they will most certainly be back quite soon.

Also, the baby thing explains it too. :ehsteve:
