We have several threads about things being underrated or overrated. Before this goes any further I'd like some kind of consensus on how these terms apply here. It can't just be something you personally don't like. For something to be overrated means a majority of people must think highly of it but shouldn't for some reason.

I'd also like to hear some reasons why you're listing what you're listing. Anybody can say Strong Bad Emails are overrated. What I want to know is why you think so.

Ok, why do I feel the Puppet Stuff is not good...

Well, the lack of scripting on the "Vs" could make for some comic gold, but the fact is there's nothing to improvise around that's particularly interesting.

Trogdor is definitely overrated. The fact that people will recognise Trogdor but nothing else from Homestar is kind of annoying; ever since his song appeared in Guitar Hero, there's quite a few of these people. I mean, yes, Strong Bad's demo on how to draw was funny, but emailing him to draw it again would just be dumb.

I think it's overrated because it's not good, but they still continue to make it -ergo some people must believe it's funny. Take Lil Brudder: that crap was nipped in the bud before it could get out of hand; the Vs stuff they continue to make, even though there's barely an iota of funny in it.

And I agree, Trogdor is overrated - perhaps because I never hit the cusp of that particular piece of zeitgeist, but mainly because I *gasp* just don't think that was a very good Sbemail.

Something isn't considered overrated because anyone thinks it's not good, unless a great many more people think it is good. American Idol, for example, is overrated. On the other hand, I don't hear legions of fans going crazy for the Versus toons, and I'd bet most people either don't like them or are neutral towards them. I, however, think lines such as "There's only one planet now?! What happened to the rest?!" are comedy gold.

I do dislike those American Idol/Pop Idol/Big Brother Shows.

It really doesn't matter whether we agree on whether the Versus toons are good. My point is that they're not overrated, because there's not a fan consensus that rates them very highly in the first place. For example, looking at this thread, opinions pretty much run the gamut from like to dislike, with most people being in the "it's good but not great" range.

Firstly, I don't even celebrate Halloween. What is there to celebrate? Dressing up as devils, demons and witches to go to other people's houses to threaten them with pranks if they don't give you candy, which probably contains razor blades and poison? What kind of a holiday is that? It's like an open invitation to the sick minded and child predators. And when was the last time anybody did an actual prank on people who don't give out candy? 1987? Nobody seems to be able to explain what there is to celebrate about it, other than getting free candy and dying of diabetes. Go away, stupid kids!!

Secondly, 2009's Halloween toon sucked and I'm totally bummed that we didn't get a Christmas cartoon this year :( (alot of the real motivation for the above rant)

Sounds like someone is just the Grinch of Halloween, lol.

I kind of agree though, but for different reasons; I find the characters don't work as well outside their element, so toons where all the characters are wandering around a cemetary or a field or a house are usually not my favorite. It gets a little too insidey for me (like, you have to know who the characters are and what drives them to understand why they do what they do.)

But I like the costumes too.
