I'm doing a research project on Homestarrunner.com and would appreciate fan input to this question:

How has the lack of ads on the website contributed to your enjoyment of the website? Seems like kind of an obvious question in some ways, but I'd appreciate something I could quote.

Thanks

The lack of ads really adds to my enjoyment of the site. I guess the best way for me to describe it would be that it gives it a more "personal" and laid back feel, if that makes any sense. It also gives me more respect for the creators, since they haven't become sellouts like so many others. It really gives the impression that, while they definitely love their fans, they do this mostly because the enjoy it and not for the money/fame.

It's great because I don't feel like anything is out of place. I get only what I come there for. No one trying to pester me to buy their product. It gives the website a very clean feeling.

On so many sites you see flashing boxes saying crap like 'You Won!' or 'You're the 99999th person here, claim your prize', and not only do these cause you to divert your gaze from the stuff you're actually trying to watch, but it's also kind of an insult to your inteligence. It's like, yeah, right, I won. Just like on every other website. And H*R doesn't do that. So TBC are thus proving to me that they respect their audience enough not to put that kind of crap on their site.

The Internet iks chock-full of free demos and trial vesions of everything under the sun. It's refreshing to know that there is at least one webiste that won't ask for your personal information every time you visit. It even had the gumption to parody other pay-sites!

I thoroughly enjoy the fact that this website doesn't distract me with "You are the 100000000000000000000000th Visitor" ads. I mean, I don't mind websites that just have text or image ads, but Flash/Sound ads. Ugghhhhhh!

Also, I love when I see ads that tell me I'm the 1000000th visitor when I'm watching a YouTube video with like 5000000 views.

I use Ad Block, so I don't normally see ads anyway. (I know, I'm a bad girl. :V)
But when I was younger and didn't have this amazing technology I did enjoy the lack of advertisements. IMO it gives the site a nice clean look since there's nothing else to distract your eyes. Plus I am eternally grateful that there are no pop up ads on the site (besides the one from Virus of course). I hate those things so freaking much.

I think one reason everybody everybody likes H*R so much is that it's kind of our dream to be able to make something like it. Anyone can make a website that's funded by ads, as long as you are willing to stoop low enough to use "C#ngradul#ations you'v# won a F#re Ninten*#o Wii."
The bros Chaps have been able to do something they love, and not only fund the website with ONLY that, but also make a living out of it. I think it shows their dedication to the craft, and to us, the viewers.

It's like a breath of fresh-air from the crap I get from the other sites I like. It's even worse when there's ads before, during, or ON TOP OF what you're trying to watch. Thank God for TBC's sense.

Hard to come up with something new, but pretty much what everyone else said. I always respected TBC for not putting ads on the site. They love their fans because they realize that we are what keeps them alive. If ads fund you, what are you funding if nobody goes to your website?
